I travel between south Louisiana and Ohio several times a year. On my way up, I like to stop for the night north of Nashville. I saw this hotel on Booking.com. It is an ideal location, the rooms looked nice, and the price was right. So, I booked it.
Indeed, the location is perfect, the rooms are nice, and the price is right. But I will NEVER stay here again. Why? Let me tell you..
After 9+ hours on the road, I arrived at the hotel and went to check in. No one was at the desk, and there was a sign indicating that they were helping a guest and would return soon. No problem, I needed to use the restroom anyway. I did so and returned to the desk. I waited several minutes more, then figured I may as well empty my car. I got a luggage rack, unpacked my car, and returned to the desk. Still no one at the desk. I waited a while longer then decided to park my car. You see where this is going...still no one at check in. I figured there must be some issue. I settled in to wait.
Then, I heard chatter in the room next to the reception desk, so I called out a hello. A stern woman in a brown hijab came out of the room and told me to wait as she was having a conversation with her mother. She wore no name tag. At this point, I was frustrated and said that I had been in the car for over 9 hours, but I guessed I could wait a while more. Not super nice of me, but I wasn't unreasonable, loud, or angry. After a minute, she returned to the desk and stared at me. I told her I was here to check in and started giving her my name. She interrupted me and barked "ID"! So I told her my name as I was handing her my identification and a card for security/ incidentals. She took it from me by the corner with her thumb and forefinger, as if it would give her cooties. Then she tossed/dropped the credit card back in front of me saying, " I said I needed your ID, this is prepaid, so I don't need your credit card." I was surprised as I have never been to a hotel where a credit card was not required for security/incidental charges.
When I mentioned that, she informed me that they have incidentals but that they were only for locals. What? I asked if many locals stay here regularly. She said they often do. And then she informed me that there would be a $250 incidental charge if I damage the room. At this point, it was so ludicrous as to be funny!! I mean, good luck getting a damage charge without my credit card!
I became obvious that she was having some sort of contest with me. I would have realized it sooner had I not been so tired. Too tired for more back and forth, that's for sure!
I did ask why she was being so rude to me. She said she wasn't. I told her that I disagree. She told me I was entitled to my opinion. Lol!!
It was both odd and unsettling. I have never felt more unwelcome in a hotel or disrespected and confused by a check-in. I looked at some other reviews, and it seems like there is an issue with this particular employee. Judging by my experience, she does not belong in any customer facing position. Maybe she's the owners relative.
There are a lot of hotels along I-65. Next time, I will spend the extra $30 and stay at the...
Read moreAs a frequent guest at this specific Country Inn & Suites by Raddison location, and Diamond Elite member with the Choice Hotels brand, I've had the pleasure of encountering exceptional service from the cleaning staff and front desk team. The attention to detail from the housekeeping team is impressive, consistently delivering spotless rooms and a warm welcome. The front desk attendee Shaun goes above and beyond, making every effort to extend a warm welcome towards my family and ensure a comfortable stay.
However, my experience with management has been a stark contrast. Unfortunately, they exhibit a lack of respect and rudeness not only towards customers but also openly towards their employees. I've witnessed management speak in a way that is belittling and demeaning towards staff members, doing so in front of guests creating an uncomfortable and toxic atmosphere.
As a person who spends the vast majority of their year traveling for both work and leisure, It's disappointing to see such a disconnect between the outstanding service from the staff and the poor treatment from management. I strive to maintain reasonable and realistic expectations when traveling but this behavior is unacceptable and speaks volumes about the leadership style and personal standard of professionalism. I find it especially disheartening that this conduct is allowed within a industry dependent on exhibiting exceptional hospitality for success, one who's primary focus should be on customer care. Despite also holding a Diamond / Elite level member status at: Wyndham, Best Western, IHG (Hilton), and Marriott brand hotels, who are direct competitors of Choice, I still continue to give this hotel priority when booking. That is solely based off my family holding such high regard for the treatment they receive from the rest of the staff. I hope the hotel addresses this issue, as it would make my stays more enjoyable and create a more positive work environment for the employees. Until then, I'll continue to appreciate the hard work and kindness of the cleaning staff and front desk team, while hoping for improvements...
Read moreI booked this hotel months ago with the understanding that you had an indoor pool. I had three kids with me who weren't looking forward to the trip (as it was for a family reunion) and I kept consoling them by promising we'd get a lot of time in the pool to swim and have fun. As I was checking in, I saw the sign that said the pool was closed for maintenance. I shared my displeasure with the person at the counter, and she did apologize but took no action to make it right. I told her that I booked this hotel because of the pool and all she said was "sorry about that, it's been closed for three weeks".
So the kids were devastated and disappointed. No discount or refund or other options were granted. I was stuck with my room and three kids, the youngest of which was in tears.
Then, later that evening, I pulled out the sofa bed and realized that we had no bedding. I called the front desk and asked for pillows and bedding, and she told me to come to the front desk to get it. So, that was cool. I had to put back on my clothes and head downstairs to carry the bedding up that should have already been in the room? Most hotels would bring that to me, but that's cool.
Breakfast wasn't served until 7 (which is late by most standards on a Sunday morning), and the following day as I was loading the car at 7:30AM, apparently the doors lock behind you going outside the lobby? They weren't locked on Sunday morning at 6:30 but they were on Monday at 7:30? I was confused and then saw the sign that said please use white phone. As I picked it up, a very angry looking, rude person behind the counter opened the door and then glared at us (myself and my three kids?).
I did like the room, size was good, it was for the most part clean. The showerhead was old and weak with low water pressure, but no complaints other than the beds were a bit...
