My review is long, so here are the key points you need to know...
Clean, (even the bathrooms!) spacious and tastefully decorated Friendly, attentive servers who care Delicious, generous portions of food Extensive menu with lots of great options Best option for Indian food for folks North of town
I shop at the Indian market next door occasionally, and I didn't really notice the restaurant until last week. It's in kind of a dodgy looking area in a strip mall at the end of a pothole-studded parking lot- doesn't look like much from the outside, but out of curiosity, I came to Google and checked the reviews. I'm glad I did. I'm a die hard Sitar fan-been eating there for years, but since I no longer work or live in the Nashville area (I moved North of town) I was thrilled to find this joint around the corner from my job. Hubby and I came down for a date night last night, and as soon as we walked in, we were pleasantly surprised. I loved the fact that you can get a table and not have to worry about being trapped in a corner surrounded by 6,000 people. If you've been to the Sitar you know what I mean. Spacious, airy, cool mood lighting and clean hardwood floors. Win.
There were about 3 different waiters who came by our table-each one was friendly, attentive and seemed to really enjoy their job. The only snag in the service is that it took them a little while to come back and take our food orders after getting our drinks.
Hubby had a mango lassi and I the strawberry (upon reccomendation by our server)- delicious. They also have rose lassi, which I will be trying on my next visit.
We ordered chicken pakora for our appetisers-perfectly done, crisp and mildly spiced...served with a tasty dipping sauce.
We also had the paneer kulcha, veg biryani, and shahi paneer . Hubby loved his biryani, and I enjoyed my shahi paneer- I've never had a paneer dish where the paneer was ground up into the sauce, but served that way gives you a rich taste of cheese in every bite. Mmmm!
I ordered my dish hot, and hubby had mild. With this particular dish, it didn't seem quite as hot as meals I've had at other places (there is an extra-hot level...I may try that when I'm feeling super brave, lol) and I'm not sure if it's this particular dish, but it didn't seem to have the depth of flavour as I've experienced at Sitar.
However, all the sauces and the rice we had were superior to Sitar's.
The little pistachio popsicle was delicious, creamy and a treat to eat...and the perfect finish for a...
Read moreWe recently moved to Goodlettsville and were hoping to find a go-to Indian place as we love the cuisine. My experience with Indian food includes long periods of time living in Tampa, FL. and New York City. Our first (and so far only) visit to Green Chili was for take-out. Green Chili has an interesting location, sitting under the shadows of an Interstate overpass. To me this lends a certain charm and character to the place. When visiting, I noticed the main dining room was was quite pleasant, quiet, and inviting. I will certainly visit to eat in, in the near future. Our food was delightful. Samosas were quite savory with a little heat, which my wife prefers vs. a very hot flavor. I ordered Chicken Tikka Kebab which is white meat only, very aromatic and tasty, and very generous. I have a big appetite and this dish was just loaded with chicken. Happy Happy. My wife got her favorite Indian curry, Chicken Korma, which seemed a bit oily at first glance but which she enjoyed thoroughly. She also had plenty of leftovers from her dish. We also ordered some Dry Fruit Naan which came a tad well-done but which was pleasantly chewy, well-flavored, and delicious. The owner frequently minds the register and he is very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Over all we were very pleased with our food and plan to continue visiting Green Chili for both takeout and dine-in. Looking forward to working my way...
Read moreTonight, I ate at this restaurant for the first time. I had heard the food was good, but the experience was much more than that. Our server was friendly and personable and took the time to answer all our questions. The food was delicious and plentiful.
I had the Bhuna Gosht (lamb) curry (a thicker version of curry than the usual) and garlic naan. The server informed me that the curry would be thick to ensure I would be ok with that. I ordered the mild spice level, which was perfect. My partner ordered the extra hot for his lamb vindaloo and said it was comparable to a mild-medium spice hot chicken. As someone who loves to eat food spicy enough to blind him, my partner enjoyed the vindaloo but would also have enjoyed it spicier. The naan was perfection itself. Flavorful and perfectly toasted, lightly crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside—just the way it should be. I loved that there were several varieties of toppings for the naan instead of the usual plain naan one finds in most Indian restaurants.
The amount of food was copious and there was enough left for everyone to take home. Entreé prices were about what you’d expect, around the $15-20 range, making this a very affordable place to eat, especially if you have leftovers like we did. I’m so full, but I am already thinking about tomorrow when I can finish my dinner for lunch....
