If weekend stay from hell was a hotel stay this would be it. Traveled to Hampton area for a family function. Normally when we venture to VA to spend time with family it's either hotel on Virginia Beach or Airbnb in Virginia Beach and we just drive to Hampton. This time we opted to stay at one of the Hilton since I'm a member. I thought it was a great idea, never had an issue at any of the Hilton hotels I've stayed at whether it be for business or leisure.
Until now! Apparently there was a convention next door because the hotel was packed with unattended minors galore. I should have known what we were in store for this weekend when there was a king line to check in and the reason it was long was because guest were complaining about the unruly children and how they were running rampant, unattended into the week hours of the morning. Not just one guest but multiple at each counter. People were demanding room changes and everything.
The hotel has signs that say they are doing renovations. Their front desk staffs attitudes need to be under renovation as well. I have never received such disgusting, condescending and down right rude and hostile behavior at a Hilton in my life. I chose our room vianthe app and after providing ID and payment I asked the lady if we could head straight up to the chosen room with our digital key. She gave me a nasty look, rolled her eyes and said “that's not your room. “I asked about why this was changed and she copped an attitude. That right there should have told me to just cancel everything and head to another hotel in the area.
Before heading out to meet with family for dinner, my partner and I decided to grab a drink at the bar. We ordered well Margaritas because the bartender (who also had a very nasty attitude) said they don't have drink me is with prices. My partner insisted so we stayed, but again should have been another hint to just leave this place. I went uo to the room to use the bathroom, came down she hands me a receiot. We were charged $40 for two well Margaritas. They were not huge, served in small wine glasses, and we only ordered 1 each.
Saturday we opted to try the complimentary breakfast. Trying to get off the floor and down stairs was a hassle because unattended minors were playing with and on the elevators making them stop at every floor or holding the doors so their friends can see how fast they can run on and off the elevators before the doors closed. Not a single adult in site. Who do these kids belong to?! The breakfast staff were sweet and very kind, even they had grown tired of the kids playing with the coffee and juice dispensers, rough housing in the dining area and spilling food and liquid everywhere. They were reaching into the buffet trays with their bare hands. We discarded our plates and went to a nearby restaurant for breakfast instead.
After we returned we decided to try the pool. Another big mistake. Unattended minors all over the place again, and once again not an adult in site. They were having a who can urinate in the pool the longest contest. We decided not to even stay and headed back up to relax before the event.
As much as I love Hilton hotels, we will never return to this one. 30+ kids running around causing issues all weekend on top of the nasty attitudes of their front desk staff is enough for me to never patronize this location again.
If you're thinking about booking a stay here find another hotel. Your sanity will...
Read moreOur stay at the Embassy Suites - Hampton Convention Center was average.
Pros: we like the Embassy Line of hotels due to the made to order breakfast, managers' reception, and 2-room suites that come standard with all of these hotels. Our kids enjoyed the overall aesthetic - fountains, glass elevators, etc. Also, the location is great, walking distance to the Coliseum and Convention Center. We appreciated that there is lots of shopping and plenty of restaurants within even a 5 minute drive, and that VA Beach, Yorktown, Williamsburg, etc. are all a short drive away.
Cons: We stayed for 5 nights and the pool was out of order for our entire stay. I understand 1-2 days, but 5 nights, especially during a spring break week? When we saw the sign at check in indicating this, we asked about an estimated fix time, and were told that it would hopefully be up in two nights, but obviously this wasn't the case. The pool was one of the main reasons we chose this hotel. Our kids (2 and 5) were so excited to swim every day and they had picked out new bathing suits, packed pool toys, etc. in anticipation. Every day they passed the pool in hopes it would be open, and every day they were disappointed. This is difficult for any small child, but when you add into the mix that one of my kids is special needs, this recurring disappointment was particularly stressful for both him and us, his parents. We never saw any work being done on the pool while we were there; I'm not sure if they were waiting on parts or what, but there just seemed to be a general lack of urgency. This could easily have been compensated by passes to the Aquaplex that is literally right next door, or something similar.
Additionally, though we had registered 4 people to our room (2 adults, 2 children), we only ever received 3 sets of towels (at check in, and once when the room was cleaned). We had to call to request additional towels on a few occasions. When we unfolded one of the towels, a reddish substance of a mucus-y/sticky consistency was on it, so we just threw it under the sink. We also requested bedding for the pull out sofa; in other hotels we've stayed at, we could find linens, blankets, and extra pillows already in the room. This wasn't the case here, and when we requested bedding, we only received a fitted and flat sheet.
Another con is paying for parking. I understand this policy during times of heavier traffic/major events, but in the off-season with a half-full lot, we felt as though we were getting nickeled and dimed. Pro-tip - when booking the room, choose parking as an add-on if it is available, as it will be $5.80/night instead of $10 if you pay when you arrive. It was a bit odd - a few rooms we viewed allowed this add-on, but a few rooms did not allow this add-on.
Lastly, the computers in the business area were pretty much non-functional. I tried rebooting them multiple times and they would either freeze or not start up at all. After 20 minutes of trying to use one computer, I tried to print out tickets to Busch Gardens, but nothing ever happened.
Overall, we'd rate our stay a 3/5. Our major gripe was the pool, followed by the...
Read moreI am home now and I wanted to take time to update my review. Soumo, Ms.Kawn, Bethany, Tierra, Jeannette, and Ayanne, Corona and Sam all helped to make our stay pleasurable. The front desk was so helpful everyday. Their kindness in greeting me every time I went by the desk on my scooter made me feel so special. The breakfast folks were fabulous. Nick was not the only one that helped me with a coffee and 2 apple juice to my table. Balancing that and food was too hard for me to do. They assisted me with a smile. Our room was well taken care of with attention to detail. It was so nice to walk into a clean room when I know I dashed out of the room leaving a mess…so I could make it to the sewing class. Housekeeping helped with that. Thank you for all you did to make our stay wonderful.
Absolutely fantastic. We could not asked for a better welcome. Carrie R. welcomed us and went above and beyond expectations. She pushed a trolly to our car and helped us load it. She then took it to our room. I was using a walker. The added help was greatly appreciated. She found us a great room near the elevator. I'm so thrilled. Nick T. Helped us at breakfast. He carried my coffee and apple juice to the table. I forgot a napkin and he got that as well. He was so kind and willing to help. Such a fine gentleman. As we were leaving my roommate asked for 2 bananas. It was not on the buffet. He went into the kitchen and handed her the fruit. Above and beyond expectations We went out for dinner and we saw Nick at the front door of the restaurant. It was so nice he recognized us from this morning. This morning after breakfast I went to reregister for the remaining week until the 21. Our room was perfect so we decided to stay here in this room 532. Tierra really helped make The check so smooth. Thank you kindly. I appreciate her calling us when the scooters arrive. Her kindness is so sincere and real. We slept so well the next day we did not wake until after 10am. We missed breakfast but the rest was needed and the bed so comfortable. Day three we had a wake up call scheduled for morning. We set that up the night before. The computer voice that answered was able to do that without us having to interrupting the employees at the front desk. I really liked that ability. We were up and able to make it to breakfast today. Corina took my drink order and brought it to the table for me so I would not spill it. She is so pleasant and thoughtful. She asked us if we needed help to get and carry our meal. We did not … but her taking the time to ask made all the difference. Overall a fantastic first impression and second and third. Keep up the great work. Your team has this. They work so well together and kind service seems to be a high priority for the whole staff. Come check this out for...
