I've stayed here twice in a months time. The first room I stayed in was absolutely terrible (room 108). It's an outside access only room with the only window facing an alley with super loud construction, but that was not why it was terrible. It was terrible because it was super musty, moldy, and very very small. There was dust on the box spring about 1/2 inch thick. The carpet felt wet. There was mold on the ceiling with a bunch of cobb webs. The bathtub drain backed up every time I took a shower. It set my allergies off super bad. Ended up with a very bad sore throat. The air conditioner worked, but made the musty smell worse. The second time I stayed, the room was great (room 107). This room was very nice! It was super clean, had updated flooring, and was a lot larger. Both rooms were queen size bed, so idk why 108 was so much smaller than 107 🤷♀️ The staff were very friendly. I was not asked for a credit card for incidentals my first stay, but my second stay I was, and I was told very strictly that if there was evidence of smoking, candles, or room freshener, I would be charged $200. That kind of pissed me off because of the inconsistency between both of my stays. Why was one experience so non-chalant and the other so strict? The hot tub and pool are small, but clean. There were plenty of towels and housekeeping was very nice. Breakfast is super continental. Waffles are the best! That's the only food item that is hot because you make them yourself. There were yogurt, muffins, orange and apple juice, and coffee available. The location is stellar! Right on the outskirts of Houghton and super close to the water. Also, there was a pigeon trap in the parking structure where we witnessed several pigeons die and left there the entire weekend! I get that pigeons can be a nuisance, but setting a cage trap where everyone can watch them break their necks LITERALLY was absolutely disgusting and inhumane and that's why I'm giving this...
Read moreNot usually one to leave poor reviews but this one was an adventure. It's obviously not the Ritz , it's a cheap place to stay on a snowmobile trip so you go into it knowing that. We came here to stay on a snowmobile trip and got in about 12AM. We were met by the manager in the parking lot asking us to park our trailer closer to the trailer next to us. We moved the trailer over a few feet. The manager stated that they needed every inch possible. We complied within reason, however we needed room to offload sleds and there were only 3 trailers in the entire lot, taking up maybe 30% of the capacity. He then said that maybe we would be better off to park somewhere else so that there would be free space for the trailers that were still to come. We got there first, was completely backwards and made no sense. At that point we went inside and went to bed. The manager proceeded to call our room at 2AM asking us to move our trailer closer yet again after we had already moved as close as we could and still be able to offload sleds. We then went out and parked the trailer 6 inches from the guy next to us just so he would let us sleep. He said that the rooms were already halfway full and there would be twice as many trailers in the lot on Saturday. So if I'm doing the math right, 2 x 3 trailers = 6 trailers. There will be 6 trailers in a 100x100 lot. Then we went in to stay in our room and it was probably 90 degrees. Turned the heat off the first night and the second night we had to sleep with the window open..in January. The rest of the weekend, there was ample room in the parking lot for all of the trucks and trailers AND sleds to park. Will be avoiding this place...
Read moreI reserved a room at the Copper Crown for Winter Carnvial and prepaid more than $500 for 3 nights. Was told at the time this reservation was only refundable through 1/10, and that the policy was to insure that the house was full. When my Dr. ordered me not to make a long car trip while healing from an injury I attempted to cancel nearly 2 weeks out, only to be told I was too late to get my money back. It took a separate call to learn my reservation was transferable. When he called the day of check-in to verify my reservation was canceled, I expressed my disappointment that they had a waiting list for Winter Carnival and was told I wouldn't get my money back even if someone took my room. He said no, they would have refunded me had someone taken my room, but "We didn't have a waiting list, WE NEVER WERE FULL." (emphasis mine) I understand the policy is there to discourage cancellations on high-demand nights, but he acknowledged they weren't going to be full anyway - there was never going to be anybody in my room those nights, whether I'd reserved it or not. He offered me nothing in return and would not budge. I contacted the hotel as soon as I was aware I couldn't make it and went out of my way to protect their occupancy, only to find they were keeping my money despite never having a full house on the books. I have a recording of the call if there are questions. I'll either find a new place in Houghton/Hancock or keep going, but if you take $500 from me and give nothing in return, don't expect a cent from...
