La Cantina Mexican Restaurant in Hancock, Michigan, is the kind of place you go when you want good food without any fuss, and it delivers exactly that. It’s a pretty chill spot with a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to enjoy your meal without feeling rushed or cramped. The artwork on the walls adds a fun touch to the atmosphere, giving the restaurant a colorful and warm feel that makes it a pleasant place to sit while you wait. Speaking of waiting, you won’t be waiting long here because the food comes out quickly, which is perfect if you’re hungry and want something good without a long delay. The staff is kind and welcoming, adding to the relaxed environment, and they make sure you’re taken care of without hovering, which I always appreciate. The food itself is solid—fresh, tasty, and exactly what you’d want from a good local Mexican restaurant. The chips and salsa are fresh, and the meals are consistently good, making it the kind of place you can come back to often and know you’ll leave happy every time. I like that it’s an easy spot to grab lunch or dinner, whether you’re with friends or just want a quick solo meal. There’s something comforting about how consistent and unfussy the entire experience is, and it’s a place that makes you feel at ease while providing a satisfying meal. If you find yourself in Hancock and are craving Mexican food that hits the spot, La Cantina is definitely worth stopping by. It’s reliable, affordable, and leaves you with a happy stomach, which is sometimes exactly what you need during a busy day of exploring.

I have a high bar when it comes to Mexican food, so take this review as you will. The ambiance is good. Busy, noisy restaurant. At least the night we ate there. The hostess was amazing, great hugs! About a 30 min wait until we were seated, not bad. Our server was not very attentive. We saw him 4 times. When we ordered, delivered drinks and chips, delivered the meal, and delivered the check. It was busy, but he passed by our table many times. Our booth seat was like a teeter totter, We bounced every time the people in the next booth sat or shifted. The men's bathroom was falling apart, air freshener on the floor, no paper towels, and the stall lock wouldn't hold. Aside from all of that, the food was the biggest downfall. The Swiss Enchilladas had processed Swiss cheese from cellophane topping the dish, very little Verde sauce, and the filling was over salted. The Mole was very high in salt and almost inedible. The chicken nachos were good, and the salsa was good. The chori qeuso was mostly oil/grease. There aren't a lot of choices this far north, but my recommendation is to avoid this one.

My family has been regulars here for years. In the last couple of months we’ve had nothing but issues- eating in I sat with a toddler on my lap for 15-20 mins with no high chair and no server for the same amount of time (after being told when we were sat they’d be right back with a high chair. Had to go ask then we waited forever for our food and a bunch of it was wrong or didn’t come out and then we had to wait forever for the rest to come out. Ordering online- in the last couple of months I have not had my order come out correctly- I’m a vegetarian (which you’d think they’d be happy about since I pay for the regular meal but beans and cheese is cheaper for them). We keep giving them more chances because we like the food but tonight was the last straw. Our online order was made with all beef even though I typed out exactly how we were wanting the food. When we called, we had to argue with the guy on the phone to even get him to remake food we payed for but couldn’t eat. He told us the online system will only order everything beef and it says that online (it doesn’t I went back to the online order form and went through the order again and it doesn’t say anywhere that all combo meals only come with beef). I took pics and showed him when I came in to get the reorder and they just acted like they didn’t care- which is the attitude we’ve gotten every time they mess up. They have never offered to refund us for our troubles, instead blame it on us like it’s our fault and argue with us. I will not be spending my money...

Friday, August 16: This is our first time trying La Cantina Mexican Restaurant. We arrived for dinner around 6pm. There was a short wait to get a table, despite that the restaurant was already pretty packed. Our waiter attended us promptly, took our drink orders, and served us a sizeable portion of chips and salsa. The chips were hot, thin and crispy, and the salsa was tasty. My wife ordered a horchata, which was served in a large, cold mug with cinnamon sprinkled on top. It was delicious and a perfect compliment to the food. Then we shared a salad, which was fresh and delicious. The waiter took our orders promptly: my wife had the enchiladas lemon lime and I had the enchiladas poblano. Both dishes were chicken: the lemon lime had a tangy lime- infused cheese sauce and grilled chicken. The poblano had a dark molé sauce and pulled chicken. Both were exceptionally delicious. When we left the restaurant, there was a large group of people waiting outside to get seated. That says a lot in itself. Being that my wife and I have much experience trying Mexican restaurants, La Cantina Mexican Restaurant in Hancock was a delightful surprise. One of top Mexican restaurants on our list. We will...
