Our group stayed at this hotel this past weekend. We had a total of 6 rooms for 3 nights each. The price was literally outrageous for the type of hotel. The rooms were outdated. You either had scalding water or lukewarm in the shower. The drains did not work in any of our rooms. Pool hours are inconvenient and not guest friendly. The Hot Tub smelled like dirty water. There is one table and 10 chairs in the entire pool area yet this hotel is 6 floors. It is built into a hill so you can not easily access your room if you are on the 4th or 6th floor. Breakfast was mediocre at best. They try but, just old food. Also the room seats maybe 20-25 people and no overflow option when it was full both mornings. It is amazing to me that they know they cater to snowmobilers but, are very misleading about where you can park. Most of our stay was jockeying around our vehicles and walking up steep hills just to get to the hotel because they do not have enough parking for vehicles let alone your trailers, snowmobiles, or cars. We were told to park under the bridge but, there was nowhere to park. So we parked up top with our trailers and the front desk called and said that we needed to move our trailers or they would be forced to call a tow truck. Thought that was a little harsh considering there was no place to move them to. Complaints to the front desk staff were like talking to walls. Our keys did not work more times than not. We collectively spent over $8000 at this hotel and felt ripped off. The walls are super thin so you can hear every conversation as well as the neighboring rooms taking showers. Additionally, the door jam on our door was loose like someone tried to break in so we had to slam our door shut to make sure it stayed shut. They keep it a secret that you have to request service by 8 am. I tried one morning at 8:10 but, they would not agree to give us service. I now know why this was the only hotel left in Houghton to book. Super convenient to go to bars and restaurants but, not to get to your own room! If you are a snowmobiler think twice...
Read moreThe hotel rooms and amenities are very clean and well taken care of. My room had a small refrigerator and a microwave, which is helpful if you are spending any amount of time in town. All of the staff that I encountered were incredibly kind and very helpful. Upon checking in, I was given a map of the hotel to make it easy to find all the amenities. Breakfast had a decent variety, including waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, pastries, bread, fresh fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, juice, and coffee. The hotel was packed and the two women working in the breakfast room worked hard to keep everything stocked and were friendly.
However, I was basically there to sleep and leave the next morning. I was given a 3rd floor room. As I was walking up to my room after arriving in the evening, I noticed most of the rooms were full. The lights were on and the sheers were pulled. You could pretty much see what was going on in every room. After watching some television, I decided to call it a night and went to pull the curtains closed for privacy, however the black-out curtains on each side of the window were fixed, like they were there for decoration, and you could not pull them closed. So basically you cannot get any privacy in your room if any of the lights or TV is on. To make matters worse, There was a light mounted on the wall in the hallway outside of my room so the room was illuminated all night making it difficult to sleep. If you like firm mattresses, then this is your place, however if you have some curves, you might find yourself tossing and...
Read moreWe recently stayed at the Quality Inn & Suites in Houghton and truly loved every minute of our experience! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the incredible location—it literally couldn’t be better. Right on the waterfront with a breathtaking view of the Portage Lift Bridge and the sparkling water, it felt like we were staying in a postcard.
The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and welcoming, making us feel right at home. They were attentive without being overbearing, and it’s clear they genuinely care about their guests.
Our room was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, and we were constantly drawn to the window just to take in the gorgeous scenery. Waking up to that view was a treat in itself!
Breakfast in the morning was another highlight. There were plenty of options—hot, fresh, and nicely stocked. A great start to the day with a view to match!
We also really enjoyed the indoor pool, which was very clean and had, again, amazing views of the water. It’s rare to find a pool area where you actually want to spend time relaxing and looking out the windows.
One unique thing worth mentioning is the layout of the hotel. It’s a little quirky and different than your standard chain hotel—but we honestly loved that. It broke up the usual “same old” feel and made our stay a bit more memorable.
If you’re coming to Houghton, don’t hesitate—this place is a gem. Between the unbeatable views, great location, comfy rooms, and warm staff, we would absolutely stay here again. Highly...
