The overall aesthetic of the numerous house plants is very pleasing to the eye. But when it came time to sit while awaiting my order I was met with a swarm of flies. For the next 15 or so minutes these same flies kept flying at me and landing on the table which was quite unappetizing. Me and my friend then decided we’d eat outside as to not battle with the flies while eating lunch. That was the first hiccup. The second was when the server brought our food to the wrong table. After kindly being informed by that table that it was wrong he then brought it to us, the only problem is he left our two lemonades at the other table. He then is again informed by the other table of this mistake but when he is told that one of the ladies wanted lemonade with her order, he gives her one out ours and then one two us. We tell him that we ordered two lemonades to which he rudely responds” I know, wait”. We both sit there confused on how he knew that we ordered two lemonades but have one to the other table knowing the full order was ours. We still wait patiently, waiting an additional TEN minutes for said lemonade, totalling 20 minutes for a beverage. We then left and the food was good but when you account for the bad customer service and flies, it made it not...

To me, by FAR the most important part of eating at a restaurant is the food; slow or rude service, shabby dining room, I'll take it if the food's great. In this case, Joy Teriyaki truly shines in it's clean and warm atmosphere, but falls far, far short in gustatory achievements. Dishes had were gyoza, teriyaki chicken with yakisoba noodles, sweet and sour chicken and rice, side of kimchi.
Main issues here were dry chicken, use of frozen (vs. fresh) veggies for at least some components, use of pre-made or previously frozen battered chicken (notable due to chewiness of breading), and kimchi sourced from outside the kitchen. The last item on that list is bothersome because this restaurant has a focus on Korean menu items in part, and kimchi is not only easy to make in-house, but a classic opportunity to add a homemade touch to an oft outsourced menu. Gyoza was great, as was the mumbo sauce-like condiment at the tables. This restaurant needs to focus on adding more in-house touches to the core items...
Read moreI'm actually really disappointed in the service here... I have always had good experiences here until today. I was in line and the cashier seemed super cheerful and was laughing with the guests in front of me (it appeared they were her friends). When I went to order, her demeanor completely changed as if I did something wrong. She wouldn't make eye contact, was talking so quiet when repeating my order, and was very short with me. I saw her do the same thing to the guests after me as well...but when her friends came up again, she treated them amazing and was laughing and smiling again. I love the food here but this will be the last time I go here. I work right across the street from this one and this is one of my favorite places. I'm really disappointed..... Also, no thick straw for boba tea?? That's a waste of money if I can't drink my drink the way...
