Absolutely unacceptable customer experience. Avoid this GameStop location.
I never leave reviews, but after what happened yesterday (7/20), I felt compelled to share. I went to this GameStop to buy a Switch 2 when the store opened, along with several other excited customers. What should have been a fun, celebratory experience was completely ruined by an employee who I believe is named Keagan, based on what others have said in previous reviews. He’s a tall white guy with glasses and, frankly, a massive ego problem.
From the start, his behavior was off-putting. The first customer in line was told he couldn’t buy a console because he had already purchased one the week prior. Fair enough if that’s store policy, but the way Keagan loudly announced it, with a condescending tone, set the stage for a very tense atmosphere. The guy just laughed it off awkwardly and left.
What followed was even worse. Keagan aggressively pushed upsells onto every single person. GameStop Pro memberships, games, screen protectors, steering wheel accessories—you name it. And when customers declined, his attitude shifted immediately. He got visibly irritated and passive-aggressively judged people for saying no. His tone made it feel like if you didn’t buy his add-ons, you weren’t worthy of buying the console at all.
Two customers were clearly buying the Switch 2 for their younger sibling, and Keagan went way overboard. He guilt-tripped them, insinuating their kid brother would definitely break the console without a screen protector or warranty. He said things like, “Oh, of course you don’t need that. Why protect it? Very convenient,” dripping with sarcasm. It was manipulative and gross.
This is supposed to be an exciting, memorable purchase, not a full-blown interrogation. Why would anyone want to come back, let alone sign up for a Pro membership, when this is how customers are treated?
I even made a GameStop account while I was still in line just to reduce my interaction time with him. That’s how uncomfortable it was.
When it was finally my turn, I declined all upsells politely and clearly. At first, he didn’t push too hard, until I said no to the screen protector. Then he launched into a sarcastic rant about how impressive it is that all these kid brothers never break their consoles, and questioned why older siblings were even buying them something so expensive. I calmly replied that everyone has different reasons for doing things. My response wasn’t meant to argue—it was a reminder that we should all be kind and considerate, and not assume or judge how or why someone is choosing to buy a gift for a loved one.
He didn’t say anything after that. He walked away, came back with my console, and handed it to me with a cold, dead stare that felt genuinely hostile. I’ve never felt so threatened in a retail setting. It left me rattled and honestly baffled that someone with this attitude is allowed to work in customer service.
This employee should not be in a customer-facing role. He treats people with disrespect, manipulates them into upsells, and makes the entire shopping experience miserable. Judging from other reviews, I’m clearly not alone in this experience.
Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere. GameStop needs to seriously re-evaluate who they allow to represent their brand. This was beyond unprofessional....
Read moreVery unfriendly, that standard "welcome in" is more of a canned greeting. Ive been to numerous Gamestop with great service but this location at Sunnyside was not welcoming at all. Maybe the employee was having a bad day but regardless, no help. I asked about Nintendo Switch PS5 and even about PSA cards. Employee would provide some half answers but when it comes to PSA Cards, not trustworthy for that service. For video games its good, but highly suggest to go to another gamestop for any PSA card submissions. I would not trust this location to handle your rare cards. This location is more focused on video games and upsells. This place is not a place to give rare cards to handle. This is Gamestop, they are not experts on cards and only PSA gets the final say what cards they grade or not. And will give back your cost refund if a card sent was not gradeable according to PSA spokesman AND from experience with other responsible gamestop locations. This location Sunnyside branch wont even take the time to do the photo process and will even criticise your cards. Gamestop and these Employees arebnot the expert on cards, PSA are. If you plan to use Gamestop to send your cards to PSA, this location is not it. Highly suggest to visit other Gamestop locations that wont berate you on your cards like this location did. Red flag right there. Just so you know, PSA grades many different types of cards and it is up to PSA at final say. To do less work, this location will refuse your card for submission, or will make up an excuse to not do business with you on card submissions. Again, if you send in a card and it is not gradeable by PSA, its sent back and no charge/refunded even says so on my Orders acct Pro Members page status on past order at another gamestop.
This Sunnyside location is not in the business of PSA card grade submissions.
Not recommended for this service.
But for video games, not a problem, even though the answers given were...
Read moreI've been to game stores across the U.S., including Hawaii, and this is one of my favorite. The service here is always above and beyond! I've bought games new and used, collectibles, like the Bioshock Infinite Board Game, or replicas by NECA and other such companies, but also consoles, peripherals and online content. I've never been misinformed, lied to or pushed to buy anything. I've had the employees recommend titles, accessories and such, but never pushed or had them repeatedly try and get me to buy something. They've even kept the store open for a bit after closing, just so I could look around more. I've returned two games, one new and one used , and I've received all of my cash back on both items without a hassle. The used game that I had returned, came from another Gamestop. I've bought used games from here that didn't come with an original case, and I've had one of the workers remember my previous visit, and give me the case to the game weeks later for free. I've attended multiple midnight releases at this location and all went great. I even went by for the XBox One midnight release, even though I didn't get an XBox One. I specifically went by to get Legend Of Zelda: A Link Between World's. I've always had good experiences here and so have all of my gaming friends and friends who don't game, but buy gifts for those who do. Thank you Gamestop employees for making my shopping visit a little more fun each time! I always leave...
