This was my first time in Hilton head, South Carolina, and we were staying at the Home2 by the Hilton hotel up the street from the Hilton head diner. Their food is absolutely amazing everything and I mean everything is made from scratch you can feel the love they put in making their food, the manager, Tony, absolute sweetheart his waitress that we had at the diner. Her name is Priscilla. She's an angel great customer service Wonderful personality wonderful atmosphere. My husband had their fettuccine Alfredo pasta with a double order of shrimp. He said that is the best pasta he has ever had. It beats Olive Garden's Alfredo pasta that speaks volumes because my husband is a huge pasta lover. I had their crab stuffed shrimp. OMG, the best I have ever had the crab meat stuffing is truly made from scratch its way and I mean way better than red lobsters crab stuffed shrimp. They're popcorn, shrimp, crunchy and juicy perfectly seasoned. a wonderful appetizer and they also have it as a dinner. They make milkshakes from scratch I had the pineapple milkshake so delicious. Chunks of pineapple, all in the milkshake phenomenal that is truly the best milkshake I've ever had and I have had a lot of milkshakes from different places, but nothing like this you have got to try it. The shake was so delicious. I wanted to keep drinking the shake, but I got full along with my delicious meal. I couldn't finish it all. I had to take it back to my hotel room. Our daughter truly enjoyed their fresh cut, shoestring french fries potatoes are her favorite thing to eat and she enjoyed every bite she took and she had an apple juice which is her favorite juice. She kept saying mommy it's so yummy their garden salad so fresh delicious the mashed potatoes and gravy the collard greens the buttered roll. Just everything was phenomenal for our very first time eating there. their food is very reasonably priced for the money that you will pay to eat there it's worth every penny you spend. The locals love it and now the Miller family loves it as well. We will be back. everyone please stop by the Hilton head diner I promise you everything on their menu no matter what you try. You will love it. This restaurant truly gives the meaning to comfort food. My sister says she's coming when she visits Hilton head. Me, my husband and our 5 year old daughter Will definitely be back to enjoy some more of their delicious comfort food. It's a...
Read moreHandsome Sammy and I were out for a walk and suddenly realized that we have nothing for dinner at home and decided to try the Diner since we were only a couple of hundred feet away. I moved to HHI after living in NJ for 25 years, so my comparison to the original diners may have jaded my view. I tied Handsome Sammy to something stationary to prevent him from running into traffic and wanted to go inside, place a take away order as quickly as possible and back outside before my boy becomes restless. I walk inside and no one is seated at or near the register. I start to look around and finally a lady stands up from a 2 person table, looks at me, yet says nothing. I was not completely sure if she had just finished eating or is part of the staff. After a couple of seconds, I stated that I would like to place a take away order. She pointed me to a gentlemen that had multiple things going on at the same time but handling them all very well. He took the order and I mentioned having celiac. He mentioned that a friend has celiac and I could easily determine that he takes it serious and is very knowledgeable. I decided to take the easy route and ordered omelets for each of us. My omelet consisted of ham & American cheese. Handsome Sammy had ham, bacon and mozzarella cheese. Both included gluten free diner potatoes, which are the greatest. The gentleman that helped me out asked if I would like gluten free toast. I was a little hesitant, but once I realized how much he knows about celiac disease, I was fully at ease. He mentioned that he would include the gluten free bread without toasting it and taking a chance of cross contamination from the toaster and may be better if I waited and used my toaster at home. After overcoming the initial interaction with the first staff member, this gentleman was a pleasure to deal with and extremely knowledgeable. Omelets had a larger amount of ingredients, just like the Jersey diners. They were very good and we both enjoyed. I could not fully understand Handsome Sammy because he attempted to provide his rating while his mouth was full of omelet. Lets just say he picked the platter clean. Its time to return and move forward to other sections of the menu as long as the same gentlemen is working so he may guide the way. Photo of Handsome Sammy a short time after finishing his omelet. Seems like a positive outcome for Handsome...
Read moreService dog handlers beware!
The moment my grandparents and I walked through the door, we were rudely interrogated about my grandmother’s service dog. The manager, a tall white man with glasses and a backwards baseball cap, and the waitress, a medium-tall black woman with glasses, demanded to see disability paperwork showing that we need the dog and saying they didn’t see any disability in our group. My grandparents have invisible, but potentially fatal, disabilities and a handicap placard on their car.
My grandmother, despite legally not having to show paperwork of any kind, presented medical and legal paperwork showing that the dog is a service dog and the dog’s vaccination record. The waitress tried to seat us in a part of the diner with no other people, and we requested to be sat in a booth on the side of the restaurant that still had people. She said that she would talk to her manager, and when she came back, she said that her manager said to just let it go and that we could sit in the booth. This counts as discrimination, because that section of the restaurant was clearly closed.
While she took our orders, the manager kept walking through the restaurant and glaring at us. When he walked out of our direct view, he continuously and loudly yelled about how people have allergies to dogs and that none of us look disabled.
When our food arrived, it was lukewarm, like it had been cold and just barely microwaved. We didn’t complain because we were afraid that they would treat us worse than they already had, and didn’t want to risk having our food tampered with. We ate what was semi-decent, paid our bill, and left.
This diner violated the ADA multiple times, and it was very disheartening. I am a young adult woman taking care of my grandparents, and it was heartbreaking to see how horribly they were treated. I work with people who have service animals and have professional training on how to treat people with disabilities and service animals due to my work in the medical field. I stood up for my grandparents and tried to explain how the ADA and service animals work, and I was blown off by the waitress. If you have a service animal, do not come here. You will be discriminated against and verbally abused. The food is also pretty bad, especially for the price. Approximately $20 per meal, totaling almost $60, for food that comes lukewarm at...
