Before purchasing a lease from Capitol Vacations we were assured that we would have options to use the lease towards a stay in Ft. Walton/Destin Beach in Florida. After the purchase we learned that the only options in Florida for the lease we purchased, were located in Daytona Beach and Hollywood Beach. We chose Hollywood Beach Towers in Hollywood, FL. With our lease purchase we were able to stay for two weeks throughout the one year lease. The first week were scheduled for June 2024. upon arriving at our room there was a musky smell, as of the carpet had been wet, although it did not appear wet. We figured it was just due to the humidity. The rain started and never seemed to stop for the whole week. --First issue: On day two the carpet in the room became saturated. It was determined that the wall was leaking due to the wind and rain. The hotel were made aware of this and they brought floor fans and air dried the carpet. Day three we were in the lobby and a party of the ceiling fell and water started falling into the lobby. My wife had knee replacement surgery two months prior and was still recovering. Due to her swelling and pain, we had to keep ice in a machine that circulated ice cold water through a cover that she kept on her knee along with compression wrap. --Issue two: while trying to retrieve ice from the hotel/condo we learned that the ice machine was broken. However, the security guards offered to retrieve ice from the kitchen. One night, one of the security guards didn't know how to get into the locked kitchen to assist with ice. I walked to the store (about a ten minute walk, there and back). Throughout all of this, every other day we were being told that the ice machine was being worked on or was now working. After, trying the ice machine on multiple occasions, it never worked. --Issue three: my wife and I were in the lobby talking to another guest when a roach crawled across the floor right beside of us. (Photo of smashed roach attached to this review). Throughout all of this the security guards remained helpful and patient. Attempting to attend to our every need. There is an elderly white-headed black security guard that was probably one of the best people I have ever met. He was a big reason that we figured that these chain of events were isolated to this trip only and were just a series of unfortunate mishaps. Not at any fault of his or the other security guards but, apparently we were mistaken. --Upon returning for our second trip in October 2024 we arrived and as my wife was checking in, they advised my wife that the room want ready and they would contact us when it would be ready. The lady at the front desk then handed her a paper flyer (which I added a photo of in this review). The flyer explained that their parking garage and pool were closed due to maintenance. My wife had called just days before us driving 15 hours to stay at this location to make sure that if we had family to visit us while we were here, would they be able to swim and hang out at the pool with us and if there is an extra fee for this request. She was advised that it wouldn't be an issue. --Issue one: While my wife asked about visitors at the pool and swimming, they never mentioned that the pool was closed but instead, they led my wife to believe that swimming in their pool would be possible. Leaving us to not know of the closing of the pool. --Issue two: The flyer also explained that they have a sister location only 15 blocks away. Issue three: The flyer went on to explain that they have a shuttle to transport guest to and from the other pool location but, due to the size of the other location, pool availability would be limited to include no pool towel and you could only use the pool between 8am-5pm. --Issue ????? I'm not sure how to number this particular issue: My wife went inside to voice our concerns to the front desk. My wife advised that this is unacceptable, that we were not notified of the closing of the pool. My wife stated that we will not be staying here now or ever. The lady...
Read moreSo disappointed. Doesn’t matter if you are an owner or a guest. … the staff is rude, disrespectful and lazy. I’m wasting my time writing this review. They simply don’t care and will never respond to this . I will never get compensated or even receive a simple apology for how horrible of a vacation this was due to their multiple screw ups . What a shame. The first night the ceiling leaked and maintenance came up “fixed” the leak and assured us it would not happen again. 7 hours later it was raining in our room. Another visit from maintenance stopped the leak but between the two visits all of our bath towels were used to clean up the mess. When we requested new towels we were told they would send them to our room. After 12 hours and 3 requests made at the front desk in person (we had to go down every time because the phone in the room was broken ) I went down a fourth time at 10pm and politely asked the clerk for some towels . She was busy playing on her phone and rudely said “we don’t have any “.i said I would take pool towels , again, “we don’t have any.” When I started to explain that the maintenance guys took our towels and we had to dry ourselves with hand towels she rolled her eyes at me….big mistake . She had a cabinet behind where she was still sitting with her phone full of clean pool towels . The security guard who knew me came over and gave me 3 pool towels and 6 sets of fresh bath towels . She just sat there giving me dirty looks until I walked away . The pool deck has signs posted that you cannot reserve chairs by putting towels on them “under any circumstances “. Every morning there is a guy that goes out at 5:30am and puts towels on all of the loungers and chairs along the back of the pool and down the side so his group of friends can sit there when and if they decide to come down. 15 chairs ! None of them occupied until hours later . 4 of them are unused all day but they put towels on them to make people think they are taken -this was for the entire week I was there . Ironically the 4 unused chairs are right between the posted signs . One morning I walked down to the front desk and asked if I could remove 2 towels to sit since they were unoccupied for 5 hours. The clerk said yes . I took the towel stretched across two chairs and a table , folded it neatly and set it on the table . An hour and a half later a woman comes up to me screaming at me for moving her towel and taking HER chair .”everybody does it ! I’ve been coming here for 13 years!!!!!!” I told her I have been coming here for 28 years and her response was “big deal! What do you want a medal??????!!!” She wasn’t even an owner . Went to the tiki bar at 2:30 to order a couple of drinks as was told “why don’t you wait until happy hour? It starts at 3:00. No problem. Went back at 3:00 and asked what are your happy hour specials ? Her response: oh we don’t have any specials for happy hour . ??????I asked then why did I have to wait a half hour to get drinks ? She just laughed . I ended up paying $13 for a regular pina colada and a virgin one in very small plastic cups, She had no limes , cherries, pineapple or fruit garnish of any kind . It was coconut flavored watery slush with chunks of ice in them . Undrinkable. Our refrigerator kept opening by itself. Our stove was tilted There was mold in the bathroom Took 3 days to get the broken iron replaced after we went down to get it for ourselves on the fourth day . “Housekeeping will bring it up to you “ is what we we told four times . Didn’t matter anyway because there was no ironing board in the room . The icemaker in the freezer was broken and no ice bucket so we had to go down to the garage with a plastic grocery bag whenever we wanted ice . We kept the ice in the freezer in the crisper drawer that was broken off the refrigerator shelf . The Murphy bed that once had a thick queen mattress was replaced with a thin cheap stained one with stale sheets. Read moreI checked in on Saturday evening March 23rd around 7pm. I was told there was a problem with the key card machine and someone would let me in my room. I was also told the problem would be fixed on Sunday as soon as a part was delivered. Okay. I go upstairs, drop my stuff and head back out to get some dinner.
The good part – the hotel is ½ block from the beach and Broadwalk.
Returning, I waited around 10 minutes for someone to let me in my room.
On Sunday, I checked with the desk to find out whether the part had been delivered. No. It would arrive on Monday. So every time I (and everyone else who checked in on Saturday afternoon) had to wait for someone to gain access to my room.
On Monday, I opened the door for the FedEx guy and was very happy … until no package. By this time, guests started complaining to each other, the front desk was not forthcoming, and I was getting a little pssstt. This situation was complete nonsense and would never happen at a Marriott, Wyndham, etc. One guy was actually told to leave his daughter in the room with it unlocked. What!!
I happened across the manager’s office, knocked and was invited in. The manager was nice enough and apologized saying the part had been shipped that morning and would be delivered on Tuesday. Honestly, I didn’t believe her. We all had been lied to since Saturday.
A maintenance man came up to fix something, and I asked him about the key card situation. FINALLY, the truth!! During an afternoon storm on Saturday, there was a power surge which blew out the key card machine. The part had to be overnighted, and the place was closed on the weekend so it was shipped on Monday. So why didn’t everyone just say that???? Why lie? And lie again on Sunday. And again on Monday.
Also – another lie (by omission) – I asked whether the pool was heated. Yes. They neglected to mention that it had been broken for a week and no repair date was in sight.
The best thing about the hotel is its location. Right when I was thinking about how clean everything was, I went to make a coffee. The carafe was clean; however, the coffee basket had MOLD growing!! GROSS!!! I took the entire pot and left it at the front desk. A clean one wrapped in plastic was delivered to my room about 30 minutes later.
Things to know – there are no balconies to any of the rooms. You cannot open any windows and are hermetically sealed in with ZERO fresh air! Bring your own soap as the bars they provide are so small, they disintegrate within the first use.
The people are very nice, but I cannot...
