I wish I could give this place more stars! I was looking so forward to coming here. I’ve never been here before. I came for my birthday. I came all the way from South Maimi. I’ve heard commercials for Opa’s and I was recommended by a friend. But I have to say I’m extremely disappointed. I think it’s a good location, being on the water, but it’s also very loud off of the street.
First, you have to pay to have your car valet parked. It’s only $4, so no big deal.
Second, all of the tables are sticky. You know how when the varnish starts coming off the table, it doesn’t matter how much you clean it, it’s still sticky? Yep. That’s all of the tables here. Easy solution! Just put a table cloth on the tables! It doesn’t even have to be cloth. It can be paper. Anything so that your customers don’t have their arms, phones, menus, purses, etc all sticking to the table. That’s a BIG issue that can be easily remedied.
Third, I ordered the Branzino. It was $30, but comes with NO SIDES?!? AND, I have to debone it myself??? Maybe this is the traditional Greek way? I don’t know, but it was not enjoyable to be constantly taking fish bones out of my mouth. I would really expect a $30 dish to come with rice, or potatoes, or grilled vegetables, or a salad. Anything! I ordered a side Greek salad to go with it, but of course that was kind of big, because it’s not really a side salad. I will say that the fish was very good. I did enjoy its texture and flavor. Had it been filet I would give it 5 stars. But since it was whole, with bones, I give it 4. Coming without sides, it goes down to three stars.
Fourth, my husband ordered the Souvlaki gyro. He LOVES gyro. He’s had them everywhere! From Miami Subs to Santorini, Greece. These were the worst gyros he’s ever had. If you zoom in on the picture I posted of them you can see that it looks as though they fried the meat! It was so greasy that he couldn’t finish. He didn’t eat any of the fries either. They were also very greasy! I added his side salad to mine to take it home and you could see the thick layer of grease on his plate. At least his gyros were a more reasonable price of $18! But still, not worth the cost. They are literally better at Gyroville than here, but at a fraction of the price.
Positives+++ The hostess and waitress were both very nice! Thank you for the good service. Five stars The Santorini Mojito was also really good. Five stars.
Those two things gave Opa’s the two stars. Our bill was $105 before tip. I will not be back and I would not recommend this place to anyone else. I did see a belly dancer inside as we...
Read moreWe chose this restaurant for a casual lunch date. We were greeted upon arrival by the waitress who let us seat anywhere we wanted since they had just opened. We immediately chose outdoor seating since it on water over looking the intercoastal. The location of is 10 out of 10. Our initial waitress was not attentive and I noticed another server giving better outstanding sever to a table that sat after us. I requested to have that server over our initial one, since our initial server negated us once we got seated. For this reason only I give this review immediately 1 less star. Service give by this individual server was bad. Once we had a new server, everything was great. Complementary with the meal they bring you freshly baked bread with the rustic form of hummus. They put on the bowl, chickpeas, and other ingredients in order for you to mash them and create your own chunky hummus. The first appetizer was the spanakopita. It came at the right temperature. However, the outside dough looked overcooked, more dark brown than golden brown. The filling was perfectly seasoned with the right balance of feta cheese and spinach. Another appetizer was the grilled calamari, it was not overcooked, perfectly seasoned, it was actually quite a large portion enough to share with the table. The calamari was served over a small salad of romaine lettuce and tomato lightly dressed, giving you a perfect combination of acid to pair well with calamari. For the main dish, we chose a whole red snapper cooked on the grill served with a garlic aoli drizzle. The fish was cooked to perfection and presented very nicely. For dessert we ordered the baklava. I specifically ordered the server to make sure that the dessert was properly warmed in the oven since I don’t like this desert cold. She assured me that it will be warm and we waited. The waitress left the dessert on the table and proceeded to walk away, once I took the first bite of the desert I realized that it was stone cold, and not the way I ordered it. It took her a while to come back to the table so I didn’t have a chance to tell her that it wasn’t warm, and we had already finished the desert. I mentioned the remarks when we received our check. The location is excellent. The food was excellently executed. The dessert needed more attention. And the service could use a little more fine tuning. I still recommend this restaurant for great Greek food and wish you luck with...
Read moreLast night, I had the pleasure of dining at this wonderful Mediterranean restaurant with a group of friends and family. We were looking for three things: exceptional Mediterranean cuisine, a fun dining experience, and a great atmosphere – and this place exceeded our expectations on every level.
From the moment we walked in, the ambiance struck the perfect balance between lively and intimate. The warm lighting and thoughtfully designed space created an inviting environment that was perfect for our group gathering. The energy was vibrant without being overwhelming, making it easy to enjoy great conversation throughout the evening
The menu impressed us from start to finish. Every single dish we ordered was expertly prepared and bursting with authentic Mediterranean flavors. The appetizers set a high bar – each one showcased fresh ingredients and bold seasoning that immediately transported us to the Mediterranean coast.
The standout of the evening was undoubtedly the bronzino. Cooked to absolute perfection, the fish was flaky and tender with a beautiful crispy skin, seasoned with herbs that complemented rather than masked the delicate flavor of the fish. It's clear the kitchen knows how to handle seafood with the respect it deserves.
Our main dishes were equally impressive, with generous portions and presentation that showed real care and attention to detail. The flavors were complex and well-balanced, showcasing the best of Mediterranean cooking traditions. The service throughout the evening was attentive without being intrusive, and our server was knowledgeable about the menu and happy to make recommendations.
This restaurant has definitely earned a spot on our regular rotation. I'm already planning my next visit and looking forward to exploring more of their menu. If you're seeking an authentic Mediterranean dining experience with great food, wonderful atmosphere, and a fun night out, this place should be at the top of your list. Highly...
