We stayed here February 13-18. Its location is AMAZING and it was only $60 a night. That being said, that is about all it has to offer. The building is very run down and has an abandoned feel to it. I wouldn’t feel comfortable walking around the building alone at all. It seems that the only things that ARE being maintained is the electricity. There are 3 elevators but only 1 was "working" for the first 3 days we were there. The buttons and floor indicator rarely lit up. When the floor indicator did light up it wasn't correct and you had to poke your head out the door to see what floor you were really on. Do this carefully because the doors close very quickly without warning. We decided to use the stairs when leaving the room most of the time, instead of waiting for the elevator. The stairs were very filthy and smelled strongly of urine. The last 2 days we were there, the elevator stopped working, but we were directed to the service elevator. Getting to the service elevator was kind of scary and it worked about as well as the main elevator. We arrived at the Hotel very late by Uber and when we approached the Elevators, I had a very “Disney’s Tower of Terror” moment. When we stepped out of the Elevator, we were overcome with the smell of mildew and incense. Other times, the smell of Marijuana could be quite strong. In the room, there was a mildew smell as well, though not as strong as the hallway and after spending time in the room, we got use to it. There were a few pots and pans and dishes for our use that were clean and organized. The kitchen was kept clean including the refrigerator. We made use of the refrigerator and the utensils but didn’t need to use the other items in the kitchen. The living area was clean. The TV and lamps worked although the remote for the TV did not and you had to use the buttons on the TV itself to turn it on/off and adjust the volume and change the channel. The bathroom, though rundown was clean and did have a hairdryer attached to the mirror though in the description on Airbnb one was not listed as well at two bars of soap and two bottles of Conditioning Shampoo. The ceiling would randomly leak from the corner of an access panel on the ceiling. On the morning of our last day, the ceiling was covered in droplets even though we both showered the night before. It made me wonder if something was leaking in the unit above. The bedroom was as tidy and the rest of the unit. The bedding was clean, very comfortable, and fresh smelling, as well as the two towels and one hand towel that were found folded neatly and placed at the foot of the bed. There were no hangers in the closet though and nowhere to set our luggage down except the floor which really wasn’t a problem for us, just letting you know. There was a safe in the closet, though we didn’t use it and an iron and ironing board, which we didn’t use either. The TV and lamps worked as well, the remote however would turn the TV on, off, change the channel and volume but nothing else. It was annoying because someone had turned on the closed caption and we couldn’t turn it off. There was also a air conditioning unit in the room that worked very well in the room but didn’t do much for the rest of the unit and I wonder how it would have been had we been there in the summer time (while there, the temp. didn’t get above 85 degrees). We didn’t spend a lot of the room. It’s location to the beach and the wonderful boardwalk made it very easy to escape to and enjoy what Florida has to offer. We would have liked to have the towels changed once, or provided with four so we could have let one set dry out while using the other. Also if you run out of toilet paper you are invited to PURCHASE another roll at the store across from the abandoned Hotel Registration desk for about $5. We rented a car on Saturday and parked at the building next to the hotel for $24 a night. So if you are looking for an affordable place to stay right on the Hollywood Boardwalk/Beach, and you’re not staying alone. This...
Read moreBeware. My husband and I booked a hotel with EXPEDIA (Hollywood Beach Hotel, in Fort Lauderdale Fl.) Upon booking the hotel the EXPEDIA Rep. tells me there will be a one time accommendation fee of $10.00 due at check out. and that the hotel provides a courtesy shuttle bus to pick us up at the airport and drop us off at the airport when checking out. Well, upon arriving at the airport, I was told by the hotel to call the conceige at the hotel....well this is when the nightmare begins. I call the hotel, spoke with the person that was to pick us up, I couldnt understand anything he was telling me, I told him I didnt know what direction I was to go. He spoke so fast, I told him I couldnt hear him well. He was irritated, rude and harsh. After he adruptly hung up I began to think, omg, what did I get myself into...was every worker in that hotel the same. When he picked me up I ask him if he was the one I spoke to on the phone...he answered yes. I told him he was very rude, well guess what, it turned out to be that he was "the head conceige"...I wasnt thrilled., especially after his nasty treatment over the phone. Upon arriving at the hotel, we went to register. Now the front desk was also very unfriendly....well I was right from the start, beginning with the head conceige. The girl registering us says we are to pay $40.00 for the 4 nights for hotel accomendations (I wonder what accomendations...rudeness)....I stated that EXPEDIA told me when I booked the hotel it was to be $10.00 at checkout. I argued the point but she said EXPEDIA misinformed me...now she also adds that we are to put down $100.00 for a retainment and we will get it back at the end of our stay. SOMETHING ELSE EXPEDIA failed to mention. We had no choice but to pay, after all it was our first day of vacation.
So now when entering the room....it was NOTHING like the photo online at the time I booked it with EXPEDIA. I asked the rep. at EXPEDIA if the photo of the room I was seeing was the exact one we were getting....he said YES. This room had no blankets or bed spread on the bed. The vertical blinds were missing quite a bit the panels AND the air conditioner was one of those with a giant hose that is installed through the window and the machine was kept between the two beds which was loud as hell. I had to turn it off in order to sleep. OH, I had to put a safety pin on the curtains in order to keep them closed which by the way are regular curtains...no blackout curtains...so that no light comes in in the morning...thats a laugh because these shinsy curtains were transparent. At least they covered those horrible missing panel vertical blinds. So anyway, I went down to the front desk and complained but they all seemed like "who cares"....It's as if we were not the first victims and they've heard it all before. I told them I was disappointed in the room and requested another room...their answer was thats the room I booked. THEY WERE NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. They never even called the manager, which if he was a real manager, he would've called me on my room phone to at least apoIogise or try to compensate for the mess. By the way this managers' name is Miguel. I called EXPEDIA ALL DAY THAT DAY....I kept asking for a supervisor. They kept me on hold for 40 minutes 2X, the other 2X I was disconnected and no one called me back. SO BEWARE OF EXPEDIA AND THIS HORRIBLE HOTEL which reminds me of that movie "The Shining." It smells stale and of old dirty rugs and old syrup. Doesn't smell clean AT ALL. I find out that there are people livubg at this hotel...they seemed homeless and they roam the area. Meantime we have to pay a pretty buck from our hard earned money...to look forward to a decent vacation...only to leave our nice, safe quite neighborhood for this trashy place. Going out on the boardwalk at night is not a good idea, nothing but a bunch of literally pissy smelly bums hanging out....
Read moreInitially we stay there for 8 days, then 3 more. The first room was an studio for 2 people + small kitchen, a convertible couch, + ocean view. The description mentioned 2 restaurants, pool, bar and gymnasium, meals were optional. However the description was nicer than what we were given at 7pm. Locally we were able to upgrade to a nicer room for an extra fee but reasonable. Thanks to Miss Paola a night shift customer service rep who understood our dilemma.and was able to change the room for a comfortable penthouse with excellent ocean view, spacious kitchen, living, dining, 2 large tv with cable, a guest bathroom, no room service, free local calls. The Bkf was included daily, A wise feature since there are no available restaurants inside the hotel just a small cafeteria. This resort at some point should have been a wonderful place with all the amenities expected for a first class hotel. A large exclusive Mall in the main floor and ocean side stores, Movie theater, gymnasium, 2 floors of high end stores, jewelers, restaurants, night entertainment, and private offices. Designed to offer fine and casual dining, bars and lounges, golf, spa, conference facilities, water sports, and a shopping Mall , everything for the perfect Florida vacation. Unfortunately nowadays one can observe deterioration in the rooms, at the lobby, reception, and the Mall area. Stores are empty, no theater, entertainment, nor offices, only one convenience store at the lobby, the cafeteria, gym, outside pool adjacent to the bar. No room service available, no wi-fi in the rooms only at the lobby, and I should warn you in case of a complaint or need of assistance the staff at the reception is useless is only for display. Perhaps if resort had an efficient management team it could offer better service and more amenities. Sad to beleive how a landmark designed some 50 years ago to be the first in its class is fading away slowly due to the effects of the ocean, bad management, and neglect. Even with the setbacks I would recommend this hotel only if the person has an open mind and few expectations, nearly a 3 star hotel but surrounded of amenities, is centrally located, rooms are clean, and keep, kitchen has all appliances, coffee maker with free coffee for 2 daily you could easily prepare a meal, but if cooking isn't for you stepping out the complex and within a short distance you will find at least 10 restaurants with a diversity of gastronomical delights, few bars, rentals stores for mopeds, bikes, jet skis, boats, parasailing and other water sports, not to mention a dozen of stores where you could buy Stuff... The Resort has enough information about tours around the city, is located within walking distance to public transportation, and a few miles away from the Hollywood Airport, parking lot for rental cars is available. The cafeteria offers a nice inexpensive menu for breakfast, portions are generous, only one Small convenience store at the lobby ibut loaded with everything you could possibly need in case of an emergency, from needles, sunblock, ATM machine and few groceries, to ice cream, pizza, cafe and desserts. The bar adjacent to the pool facing the beach has a small menu with a variety of low end meals and fried appetisers, seafood, chicken wings, also hamburgers, hot sandwiches, and small selection of beer, wine and cocktails. Nice establishment where you can enjoy a world class sunset while sipping a nice cold beer... I just wish they had a small band or tropical music it would had made our evening more...
