After fighting with Red Lion's glitchy website, I ended up with this hotel. The price and location (if not a bit sketchy) were right; however, the details were all wrong. ||||Room smelled of straight patchouli, the security bar lock on the door was busted off and missing, my bath towel had a large hole in it. The "fast wi-fi" disconnects you every hour making you have to log back in. ||||There is a small fridge with no freezer whatsoever and a microwave, but no coffee maker. This wouldn't be so bad if there were a lobby/breakfast, but there is not any to speak of. Just a small 10x10 room you can enter to grant you access to the office. The "continental breakfast" is a tiny 3-tier pastry case that is only available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.||||We stayed two nights and left the "Do Not Disturb" on the door the entire time. This did not stop housekeeping from coming in our room while we were gone during the first day (I'm pretty sure this was at the instruction of the very rude manager as we saw him pointing at our room in the hallway). ||||Then, after paying $6 for a late checkout on the website reservation, they called us at 11 a.m. to checkout, despite citing their web info. In fact, upon telling him what the website said, he laughed at me and said it would be an additional $25, not $6. At that point I gave up, packed up, and left. ||||I wasn't expecting anything fancy for this brief trip, but I was hoping it would at least be accommodating or welcoming, but it was neither. The woman that checked us in and out couldn't even bother to say hello, goodbye or thank you. The manager was yelling at his staff in the parking lot and chastised my boyfriend for walking in the parking lot while taking a phone call (the only way to get signal). I'll be looking...

Read moreLong-term guest on business in Houston. Have 5+ years of road and hotel life behind me, and this property is the best I've ever seen in terms of cleanliness, attention to detail from ownership, room amenities at price point, location, and simple comfort.||||Spacious, large even, rooms with simple tasteful furniture. Minifridge and microwave, work desk and good table/nightstand set that adds a nice bit of tabletop surface area usually lacking in hotel rooms.||||Bed is way, way above grade. A/C unit is well-cared for - they all are - with no mechanical sounds occurring. Lights are standard, but all working, and the bathroom is good-sized and rigorously clean.||||TV and cable package are premium. Period. No off brands, no restricted channel listing. Premium. ||||The wifi is some of the best I've used - at any property - ever. ||||Ice maker is in top shape, parking lot is well-lit and well-fenced, and complex is quiet.||||And the housekeeping staff is competent, quick, detailed, and cordial. Rooms are very neat, very orderly, and very clean.||||Yes, I know I'm gushing. For veteran outside salesmen, finding a property like this is a rare and cherished event. An oasis in a desert of bad lighting, low-definition Chinese TVs, screaming matches in parking lots, and overtaxed vintage wall AC units. ||||Note: I believe this property is a reflection of the managers - Pete and Sandra. They are engaging, welcoming, open and responsive hosts. I wish I had money to go into the hotel business with them - they run a perfect property.||||In short: It's not unusual to find the occasional hotel that beats expectations. It's abnormal to find one that is as well-run and maintained as this property. A...
