While traveling for a conference on 3/23-3/27, I was excited to stay at the brand-new Home 2 Suites - Houston Downtown Convention Center. This excitement quickly turned into the most disappointing stay I have ever had at a Hilton property.
Upon checking in, I was never offered a water bottle for being Diamond status. When I got to my room I noticed was that the TV would not turn on. Calling the front desk resulted in a busy tone, so I went downstairs. Since it was after 8pm, staff said that maintenance was no longer on site and suggested that I unplug and re-plug the associated TV cords to see if that would reset. This did not did not work. The next morning on my way out, I stopped off at the front desk to let them know that the TV still was not working. Staff took down my room number and said they would get it looked at during my time away. When I got back to my room around 8pm te TV still did not work! Once again I went downstairs, the staff member was able to contact the maintenance person who got to my room around 9pm. They spent approximately 45 minutes trying to get the TV to work, without success. At this point I let the maintenance person know that they could work on it the next day as I needed some sleep. Waking up the next morning, I walked to the bathroom and heard a dripping sound. Imagine my surprise and horror when I looking into the show to see water dripping from around the light fixture located in the ceiling of the shower!! Quicky turning off the light to reduce fire hazard, I went downstairs to inform the front desk. The staff member gave me a new room to move to my belongings. This delay caused me to miss my first session of the day at my conference which was one of the two most important sessions that I wanted to attend. As for the showers, the water pressure was very poor and would surge from not much more than a trickle to a few seconds of decent water flow. On the last morning of my stay, there was no hot water - not even luke-warm. While not expecting much from a hotel breakfast meal, I do expect a certain level of food safety. I do like the concept of the breakfast sandwich station. However, when I took the first bite of my sandwich, the egg product was cold. This is not meant to be taken as the egg was hot and then cooled to room temperature. Rather, the egg still had a level of chill from the refrigerator. On my last day, I decided to try the sandwich case again thinking that the first day might have been an aberration. It was not. On checking out, I requested to speak to a member of management. I was told that they did not arrive on site until 9am. As a result, there was no way to discuss the opportunities that I faced with them. Also, no one ever asked me “how was your stay.” Generally, the staff seemed pleasant enough, but they were clearly overwhelmed. Knowing that this location was a new property, I asked the staff how long they had been open. They indicated that they opened the Wednesday before I checked in. The lack of on-site management presence during the start-up certainly did not help with making the Home 2 Suites in Houston an enjoyable visit. Upon my return home, I tried to call the hotel and talk with management. However, I was told that they were on the phone and would call me back. This was on 3/28/25 and as of today, 4/1/25, I have not heard from them. Other small things of note: I was clearly the first person to stay in the rooms as I did peel away packing tape from the microwave oven door. There were still twist ties on the iron cords in both rooms. The start-up pack for the dishwasher in my first room was still in the dishwasher. Also, at least one outlet did not work. In my second room, the ice tray start-up pack was still in its wrapper inside the...
Read moreI hate being lied to... I hate being effortlessly lied to even more. So I'll begin with that. I was driving back from a baseball game. After a lot of manuvering to get near the hotel due to streets being closed I parked. I asked the front desk if my car would be towed if it was parked on that side street. The agent said I should ask valet... The valet manager simply said "yes." Now, I expect thsi because asking a valet manager if you should park somewhere else for free or get back in your car and wind your way through the streets for 20 minutes for the privldge of paying him $58 is only ever going to get one answer. What he did not mention was that the exclusion on parking on that street expired within an hour.
What makes the farce of service this hotel put on even more disturbing is that at checkin no one mentioned that returning to the hotel might be complicated by multiple special events downtown or that streets near the hotel would be blocked off. This is your hotel, this is not the first special event to take place in and around it... the front desk staff ought to know and ought to prepare guests. They should also know what special parking rules are in place and for how long they are in place. Your staff lives and works here and ignorance is simply not acceptable for the rates this place charges.
What made the night completely intolerable was the bar service. The issue was not only that the hotel had only one person working a packed bar and surrounding casual area... it was that the one bartender took only one order at a time and moved as though his greatest concern was not increasing his heart rate beyond that of a seated 80-year-old.
While the rooms are nice, until the staff can be trained to "be, know, do" (be motivated, know the conditions which will affect guests stays, and do their job with honesty and transparency), then I strongly recommend finding any other place to...
Read moreWe're traveling from out of town and currently staying 2 nights at this new location in downtown houston. To my disappointment theres no parking for guest. We were not aware a rockets game was tonight and parking was for the game. The hotel guest were on their own. We had someone that did not work for the hotel telling us what we could or couldn't do and the front desk clerk had NO CLUE! We drove around over an hour trying to find parking. Then we got to the room and someone had used the restroom and had not flushed the toilet so it is clear that the restroom was not properly cleaned. It is absolutely ridiculous that a hotel would not have adequate parking. That is basic customer service to have adequate accommodations. Home 2 Suites is a place we normally search for when we travel, but not anymore. Their standards are dropping with each visit. If you plan on staying at this location, know that parking is an issue and you will be seen as the bad guy for speaking out about this issue. You are forced to do valet parking (if there is room, valet is also limited) otherwise you fend for yourself and in downtown Houston, that is no fun. The hotel does NOT HAVE A PARKING LOT SPECIFICALLY FOR ITS GUEST. I'm very disappointed. This hotel seemed to have opened prematurely. They...
