Dining Experience @ Pappas Bar-B-Q. . Known for its warm inviting atmosphere and delicious barbecue, Pappas Bar-B-Q operates 90 stalls across 8 states, with the specific Pappas Bar-B-Q here in Downtown Houston being one of the earliest. . With dishes scratch-made from the freshest ingredients, it's no surprise that Pappas Bar-B-Q is a restaurant of choice for Houston's finest (its police force), who regularly dine here. . Their Barbecue Sauce is house-made with 25 ingredients, taking about 7 hours to prepare. It has a tangy sour sweet savoury spice flavour, with a thick sticky texture. . The Watermelon Juice (USD $3.99) has a semi-thin grainy texture and fruity sweet flavour, nicely refreshing for a hot day. . Sampled the Platter Pork Trio (USD $17.95), which comprises 3 types of pork and 2 side dishes. Sufficient for 2 meals, I packed the remainder of this lunch, for a later dinner. . Their Barbecue Pork Ribs is light on seasoning, as expected of the Central Texas style of barbecue. The low and slow smoking infuses the pork ribs with bold smoky meaty savoury salty peppery spice flavour. Has a chewy tender texture to the meat, pulling clean off the bone. . Their Pulled Pork highlights the natural flavour of the pork through simple seasoning. The low and slow smoking means the meat has a chewy tender texture that separates easily, with bold smoky meaty savoury salty peppery spice flavour. . Their Coleslaw has the vegetables in roughly chopped pieces, making it look more substantial than other versions. Also sprinkled with crunchy nigella seeds. Has a crunchy crisp texture with vegetal sweet sour milky nutty flavour. . Their Macaroni And Cheese is righteous, just the right balance of cheesy goodness, with a soft gooey creamy texture and starchy cheesy salty sweet milky flavour. Indulgent and addictive. . Enjoyed the Grilled Pork Sausage, with its pleasant snappy juicy crunch and smoky meaty savoury salty herbal flavour. . Sampled the Platter Beef Trio (USD $25.95), which comprises 3 types of beef and 2 side dishes. Sufficient for 2 meals, I packed the remainder of this lunch, for a later dinner. . The Barbecue Beef Ribs are done in the Central Texas style of barbecue, simply seasoned then smoked low and slow over hours. This results in the short plate beef ribs having a chunky firm tender texture with bold smoky meaty savoury salty peppery spice fatty flavour, the meat coming off the bone with slight effort. . The Smoked Beef Brisket is simply seasoned then smoked low and slow over hours. The prime grade full packer beef brisket becomes tender succulent juicy in texture, infused with enticing smoky meaty savoury salty peppery spice fatty flavour, the meat being so luxurious. . The Creamed Corn was a delight. Has a gloopy juicy crunchy texture, with addictive grainy sweet savoury salty buttery spice flavour. Kept reaching for more. . The fragrance of the Dirty Rice is nicely enticing. Not overly greasy with a good balance of ingredients, this carries a fluffy moist oily texture, with robust grainy vegetal sweet meaty salty savoury spice flavour. . Enjoyed the Grilled Beef Sausage, with its satisfying snappy juicy crunch and smoky meaty salty savoury...

The food is usually good here and customer service is USUALLY good as well. I gave 2 stars today. I am really disappointed in my service today, Jan 9, 2022. My sister is on bed rest and I decided to stop at one of our favorite restaurants near her home, to cheer her up today. The lady at the cash register was nice. I know they are trying to get orders out, but I felt "rushed " today. I had questions and because of the answers that were given by management, I needed to change my order, but I do not have the menu items memorized. So, It's like I got on their nerves. I am usually a regular drive-thru customer at this location since COVID. They are usually very good. Today, I guess I asked too many questions. I ordered two mixed plates with the same meat choices. I hardly got anything in one to-go container, VERY SKIMPY on one and great on the other. There was literally 2.5 small strips of chicken on one and two pinch small pieces of brisket in and the usual amount on the other. I could not even make the small child a small brisket sandwich , and DEFINITELY NOT a chicken sandwich. I paid the same and I should have gotten the same good in both. I have never gotten a skimpy plate at any of the Pappas BBQ restaurants that I frequent in the past 30 years. I sure have gotten equally good amounts if I ordered the same plates. Imagine my family opening the box or to-go container and seeing THAT. We were all shocked. I tried to call and was put on hold when I asked fora manager. The manager never even asked for my number to call back or what was the issue. I was on hold so long that it hung up. I called again, twice, no answer. So I decided a review was in order. I would like a response and will be going further. The food is good tasting, as always. Customer service was ok, except the tone from the young lady in management. I promise, I was not rude. I am a long...

They took my to go order, but 5 minutes after I paid, the cashier informed me that they did not have anymore chicken. She asked me to choose something different, but while I was looking at the menu, another couple eating in, who had not paid, got the last half chicken. I wanted to ask how this could happen, but just held my tongue. I ordered the brisket sandwich to replace my missing half chicken. I waited at the to go register, and watched the man cutting meat do literally everything, except make my sandwich for 10 minutes. I finally asked the cashier to go remind him, and there was a little angry attitude from him to her. He finally took out the bun and proceeded to put mustard on it and what looked like 1/4 of a diced onion on it. I immediately told the cashier no mustard or onion. She ran back to tell him, and an angry exchange again, so she put a new bun on the grill herself. He walked over to me and put his face close to my face and asked me if there was anything else that I did not want on the brisket sandwich, so I pointed out to him that on the description it does not say mustard. He proceeded to list everything that came on it, and asked if I wanted it. He then walked back to make the sandwich, and proceeded to ask me if I wanted pickle. The scene obviously made one of the ladies who makes the side dishes angry because I watched her put bags over my side dishes that had been sitting on the counter ready for about 20 minutes, I assume in an attempt to hide them, because she bagged my food without them. I checked my bag and told her that my yams and macaroni and cheese were not in my bag, and she immediately grabbed them from underneath all the bags and put them in my bag without saying a word. The food was for my son, and he was very hungry, or I would have asked for my money back, and went...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Pappas BBQ, and I must say that the brisket was absolutely fantastic. It deserves a solid 10 out of 10. The flavors were rich, the meat was tender and juicy, and it had a perfect smoky aroma. It was a truly memorable culinary experience. However, I must mention that the prices at Pappas are on the higher side. While I understand that quality ingredients come at a cost, it would be more enticing for customers if there were some more affordable options available. Nevertheless, the exceptional taste of the brisket made up for the slightly steep price. Unfortunately, the baked beans fell short of expectations. They were undercooked and lacked the desired tenderness. It was a minor disappointment amidst an otherwise enjoyable meal. I believe some extra attention to the cooking time and seasoning could greatly improve this side dish. On a positive note, the dessert was an absolute delight. It was a perfect ending to the meal, and I can confidently give it a solid 10 out of 10. The flavors were exquisite, the presentation was appealing, and it left me craving for more. It was evident that the chef put a lot of effort into creating this sweet masterpiece. Overall, my experience at Pappas was a good one. Despite the slightly expensive prices and the undercooked baked beans, the standout brisket and exceptional dessert made the visit worthwhile. I would recommend giving this restaurant a try, especially if you're a fan of mouthwatering brisket and delectable desserts.

Something happened after the Pappas brothers sold off their share of Lubys. Not sure what's going on with the downtown BBQ location but the quality, quantity and presentation was disappointing. Like most businesses, the prices have gone up as expected, but it was hard to understand the experience my group had. I had to repeat my simple order 3x to the female taking my order and when she turned around to tell the backline what I wanted, she still didn't repeat it correctly... which was "sliced beef sandwich, loose cut" ($12). The guy slicing the meats even got it wrong and I ended up with black crispy and dry crusts. I also noticed he sliced off 1 and maybe 1/2 thin cuts off the brisket and proceeded to cut those into 1/3's & 1/4's so it would fit the bun. Quality & quality isn't like it used to be. Additionally, they were out of baked potatoes (at 7:30pm) and I ended up with cold fries. The three meat combo plate ($20) was disappointing as well. It included 1 rib, a 3" piece of brisket and 2 small pieces of sausage cut diagonal and equivalent to a golf ball cut in half...maybe and 2 sides. Yes, I snapped a few pics for prosperity. Now I see why there was only 4 other customers in the place. To be fair, I ate at both DOTS and Pappadeux a few weeks ago around the same dinner hour and they were both amazing as expected and both of those Pappas restaurants were packed. Even with the increased menu prices, the quality and quantity was perfect... not so much at Pappas BBQ - Pierce St (downtown).
