We recently stayed at motel 6. You know the one where they say” “we’ll leave the light on for you”.?||We were on a cross country trip from St Augustine Fl to||Bakersfield California. We had traveled many miles that day from Eloy, Az to Indio, Ca, (Palm Springs area). We had encountered interstate closures, detours, a AAA technician who showed up without a jack and tire inflator ( I kid you not) (eventually another one came with tools and helped us) tire replacement, and many gas fill ups throughout the journey. We were towing our 22 ft travel trailer and it was getting tiresome for my husband as I don’t drive it.||We were hungry and exhausted.||||We needed to hunker down for the night and as it became evening, we stopped at the closest and most inexpensive, or so we thought, and that was Motel 6 in Indio.||Upon check in and paying $123 good American dollars 💵, we found a bed that looked like a child’s bed, it was a full size bed with a barely there thin blanket, low to the floor and two tiny pillows. It had one mirror plastered to the wall, one chair and tiny desk and two lamps adhered high on the wall. One luggage rack and the smallest trash can. It also had a very small tv and some sort of dresser like armoire wannabe underneath. The lighting was garish and consisted of one light above the bathroom, blinding to me and the two wall lights which could not be toned down but both way too bright.. ||the lights had one click for on and off. No comfortable modes were set by any lighting in that room.||The first room, the tv didn’t work. So they gave us another room. I have bad knees so it was hard for me to get up and walk some more that night, but I did. That room gave me the creeps with a lock on the door that looked like it had been broken into so many times before we ever got to it, as evidenced by the looser than you want it to be plate behind the lock, the crooked door handle itself and the flimsy deadlock that was not catching all the time. Oh yeah it was time to go.||When we got to room 2 not worse but not much better but the bed was softer so that helped. The bathroom wasn’t too bad, but their towels were worn and dingy, didn’t feel like messing around with them so just cleaned up best as we could with our own equipment.||We stayed in many other hotels along the way, paying less and getting beautiful rooms in comparison with breakfast included.||Along our journey, Our favorites were comfort inn in Fredericksburg, VAHoliday Inn Express in and many others, and we paid less.||||The area we were in was in the middle of their winter season so prices were higher for sure, but these sad and scary rooms made us feel unwelcome, especially with guys setting off cherry bombs in the parking lots, and not feeling secure with door locks, etc.||This room at the Motel 6 looked like the rooms people go to when they’ve given up. Felt very sad and desperate and lonely. I couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there.||||So, yeah, Motel 6, we felt cheated and for what product you’re putting out there, for a higher price, please don’t leave the light on for us, we are never coming back to your Motel 6 or any other one of...
Read moreWhere do we start on our first night we stayed in room 274 which was infested with flying bugs we discovered were coming from outside our door. The reason they were coming in was because the door would not close all the way. The bugs were literally laying on my bed. They switched us to room 261 where there were a few flying bugs but I would stand it for one night because it was now 12:30 and I was tired. Well at 2 am a stranger opened our room door !! Luckily we were still awake and had the bolt latched on the door. The hotel never checked us out of our first room so they gave the new room to this man, my husband had to go to the front office to explain the situation! I was so mad at this point I was already looking for another place to stay the remaining three nights. The hotel manager said he would give us 20% off our stay and change our room again in the morning to a room in the front building. We changed rooms the next morning and it was better than the other two so we decided to stay. During check out on our last day we were under the impression we would get 20% our whole stay because that was a disaster our first night and a huge inconvenience not once but twice! Well come to find out it was only 20% our first night which was the cheapest night! And the original manager who we dealt with was not there that day and the new manager could not get ahold of him. This manager did take a little more off the first night but when you are paying almost 1k for a room and this happens to you, you would expect a little more than 20% off one night. I will definitely not be staying here again and will not recommend it to anyone! P.S we also had to go down to office every time we needed a iron and the entire time I needed a blow dryer they had none available in the office, you would expect those in...
Read moreThe front clerk was barely interested in helping us, chomping on her gum. Despite making the reservations and using a card online to pay for them, suddenly we have to come up with a NEW card to pay for them. I walk in the room and the floor crunches from the garbage on the floor. A dustball 1/2 the size of my fist is under the bed. My dog refused to sit or lie on the floor, until I brought his bed in Must of been really noxious to him. He would not even eat inside. The bathroom sink was flooded, and supposedly sealed plastic glasses, two sets of two - even the top one had soapy water in it, with bleach. However, no bleach was used in the shower never saw any bleach, as along every single seam or crack there was mildew. The shower door opens if WATER from the shower sprays on it. I had to move a suitcase to keep it closed to use it. There was dust on top of everything - it looked like one of those scenes from Hotel Impossible from the initial inspection.
Paying for WiFi,was absurd. We are given these tiny little pieces of paper that are taped to the key - covering the swipe of course! This was the first time at any Motel 6 I have paid for it, , and of course just like the website, since we had two rooms and two WiFi we needed FOUR credit card transactions. Luckily fraud prevention did not kick in with two sets of duplicate charges.
When I asked for a new room, all that was supposedly available was upstairs, at the furthest corner of the lot, when I had requested a downstairs room. I know the motel was not full - not with less than 20 vehicles onsite.
My companion stated, "What do you expect, this is a Motel 6?" I said I expected to at least put a lightbulb in the socket, if they are not going to "Leave the light...
