The Best Mexican Food in Indio! While at #coachella people kept shouting at me in my ear hole about this place and well, did it live up to the freakin hype?? Only one way to find out! #mexicantiktok #mexicanfood

This was a really impressive restaurant. The menu had all the mainstays of Southern Californian Mexican food, but it was also packed with gems you don't often see at other places. The chiles güeritos, stuffed with shrimp and cheese and roasted, were particularly impressive. I can imagine sitting at the bar and enjoying a large plate of these with a couple of cold beers. Our entrees were also wonderful: birria de chivo and tampiqueña, and the handmade tortillas really shone. The service was impeccable. Our server, a friendly young woman, readily and warmly provided recommendations, and she helped us find an out of the way outside table, in order to accommodate out large dog, whose birthday we were celebrating. We're looking forward to finding another excuse to come to Indio, so we can explore more of the extensive menu at this top-notch desert restaurant.

My friend suggested we meet here for lunch, and I was greeted warmly and given a table near the door so I could be on lookout for my friend. I enjoyed chatting with the wait staff who checked on me to make sure I had chips, salsa and a drink before my friend arrived. The ambiance was comfortable with cozy, large booths and assorted Mexican decor, including some weird little surprises such as miniature Disney characters randomly placed up on a high shelf. My friend told me that he chose this restaurant because it is one of the top 2 best Mexican restaurants in Indio (and there are a LOT), and because they don't play music so loud that you have to shout to have a conversation. I ordered the crunchy shredded beef taco plate and it was just how I like them. I highly recommend El Campanario!

I’ve been to this place several times in the past , and sometimes with friends. And I have to say that the quality of the service has just gotten worse. The last time I was there was about six months ago, I had ordered the Denver omelet for breakfast, and ended up waiting for at least 45 minutes for my food. And when I asked for the reason why my order was taking so long, I was told that they didn’t have some of the vegetables to make it and had to send someone down to to the local food for less to get the vegetables they needed to make it. Even though the service was bad my friends and I still left a generous tip. Today 02/10/24 my friends decided that they wanted to have breakfast there today. Reluctantly I went with them, hoping that the quality of the service had improved. And frankly from the time we sat down to the time we left, the quality was just worse than it had ever been before. The server was just unattentive to our table. We had to keep calling the waitress over to our table , or whomevers attention we could get, just to try and get a refill on coffee or tea. At $15.95 a plate and $3.75 for a 16 ounce glass of tea that was full of ice . Even the coffee is $3.75 a cup. I asked for lemon in my tea, and my water as well. And I got nothing but water and tea without lemon. My friends were served hot coffee witch was served in a 8 ounce cream dispenser . The waitress seemed more interested in what I’m assuming was the owner and what he was looking at on his cellphone. I called out to two other servers in the restaurant several times and was ignored. I could understand if they were really busy, but there was only a couple and their toddler, 3 senior citizens in the restaurant. The icing on the cake was paying the bill . Some of the guy’s left a tipp on the table. And I was about to leave a tip, but decided to go pay the bill and was going to return to leave a tip. But I’m glad that I didn’t leave a tip! Because they added a 18% gratuity to my bill without any notice, to add insult on their 18% gratuity, they were so nice as to not say anything about the 18% gratuity that they had already charged me , were hoping that I would leave them a second tip on the receipt. I was lucky enough to catch the deception on the receipt. They should have had some integrity and honesty about the gratuity being added to the bill, and said it was already included, instead of hoping that I wouldn’t notice. I won’t be taking any family or friends to dine in this place again. Nor would I recommend...

Traditional and authentic Mexican food. Full of flavor and can be spicy. Chips were heavier than the thin light chips often served at Cali/Mex places and the salsa had more kick. I really enjoyed it but had to wait to eat it until I had water in front of me. Friends brought us on a busy day, Sunday after church in season, so the service may be better at other times. They were very slow to get our tables drinks, we had to ask three times, similar issues in waiting for extra napkins. Otherwise the order was correct and served hot. We had an appetizer of white peppers stuffed with shrimp that was amazing. Also I tried the carne asada sope and cheese enchilada combo . It was great and full of flavor not just sauces. The view leaves something to be desired but the place was clean and full of a happy crowd of people. Average plate priced around $15- $20 plus drink and appetizer. I'd love to go back...
