Vieques Tropical Guest House — Hotel in Isla de Vieques

Warm personable couple from NY (Maria and Joseph) run this well kept guest house which is a great value and very clean. Each room has strong air conditioning and good water pressure/ temperature and both Maria and Joseph work so hard to make the experience amazing for each guest. We came without a car reservation and Maria went out of her way to try to find us a golf cart and hired us a taxi / gave us recommendations for breakfast and beaches. They lent us beach towels and allowed us to keep our luggage downstairs after check out. They have an awesome bar downstairs and we had a great time listening to music and chatting with the couple at night- they were so warm and generous to invite us to try Puerto Rico rum and share their stories. Honestly they are one of the main reasons we loved our short time in Vieques - definitely one of the best options...

The Good: Property is located in town and have a few parking spots is the front. There is a small market in front of hotel. Price was ok.

The Bad: Since check in the room floor felt dirty and sandy. No hand soap or body soap was provided. Bed is super small and hard. Sink in bathroom is extremely low.

The Ugly: The bathroom is half open. Its wall ends about 3 feet from ceiling, so if you are staying with someone they will hear and smell everything you do in the toilet.

Some parts of the concrete is cracked and in some areas paint is dirty and peeled.

One afternoon we arrived at property after a beach day and there was a car parked across 4 parking spots and with engine running. It took about 15 minutes to find the person and when I told him about the parking situation he arrogantly replied: "I AM THE OWNER...

We had a great stay at the Tropical Guest House and I strongly recommend spending at least a few nights here to enjoy everything Vieques has to offer: tropical beaches, bioluminescent tours, rum and much more to experience than a one day trip! Joe & María are the best hosts making us feel at home immediately and helping us with recommendations with local advise and the small detail that matter. The bar at the entrance is Joe’s space and he plays great music there throughout the day and also makes great coffee. Rooms are clean and comfortable, with a great tropical taste.
