We were really looking forward to a great meal from this place. We had heard great things and read great reviews. However our experience wasn’t as good. I think the take away from the whole experience is that it was too busy to properly serve its customers and we probably should have just gone elsewhere. We made a reservation for 7 pm. When we arrived there was no seating available. We waited about ten minutes and someone came to help us. They explained it was really busy but they found a spot that might work for us. It was a small bar type table on the patio. As there were four of us we felt it was a bit cramped but we really wanted to eat so we agreed to it and asked if we could move if something else opened up. The waiter was insistent that we had to stay at that table if we chose it which we thought was odd. He kept going on and on about the table issue. We just wanted to sit and eat. So we waited for another 5-10 minutes and the waiter came back to bring us menus. At that point we saw some tables opening up and we decided to wait for a better option. The waiter left annoyed as we sat there waiting but another waitress came over and assisted us. She agreed to move us to one of the open tables and cleaned it all up for us. She was probably best part of our visit and why I’m giving 3 stars. From the time we ordered our meal to the time we got our food it was about an hour and fifteen minutes. We did get drinks and appetizers to start which came out fairly quickly. But then the meal itself took forever. The food came and most of it was cold. The meat was dried out and old as we were likely being served food that was sitting for sometime. It was obvious it wasn’t freshly prepared. It almost tasted like it was leftovers and had been warmed up. The dishes with fish were much better and fresh tasting. The drinks we had were great but probably the strongest cocktails we’ve had on our trip so far. They hit us so fast and since the appetizers took a while we were really feeling the effects. Overall the meal was not enjoyable due to all the delay and feeling of not being taken care of. The waitress kept apologizing for everything coming so late and for it being so busy. We appreciated her concern and know none of it was her fault. The whole experience took about 2.5 hours which seems excessive since we weren’t ordering tons of food and drink. They must have been short staffed but it really affected our experience which was very disappointing. I don’t think we would return here to eat again unless it was really quiet with few guests and much earlier in the day to avoid the rush and poorly...
Read moreUnsafe. Verbally and physically aggressive staff, poorly managed kitchen. We were sat quickly even though it was a very busy night. We waited maybe 10 minutes. Raulito, a bartender with shaved head & pony tail or bun hairstyle and gun tattoo on his arm ( I'm including these details because the owner in most posts asks for details on the server ), sat us, asked if we'd like waters and said he would be back to get our waters, then our food orders and then our drink orders. He came back with 4 waters, we had five people in our party. Took our food order and said he had to get our food orders in first otherwise they would take forever to come out. He never came back. About 20 minutes passed, so we asked a woman working behind the bar if we could order drinks or get a water. She said no, talk to your server, I do not have time, then actually shooed us way with a hand motion. About 20 minutes later our server showed up in a panic saying 3 of the 5 dishes we had ordered were no longer available. This was 40 minutes into being sat down and ordering. No drinks and most of our party would not be eating what they ordered. We all stood up and said we were leaving, and he got in our way and said we could not leave because they had begun making our food and we would have to pay. Pay for food that hadn't even been put on our table, or left the kitchen, and half our party wouldn't get what they wanted. We asked what was available to order, and he said he would ask the kitchen. When he was out of sight we quickly left. Raulito made everyone in my family physically uncomfortable when he stepped in front of us and told us we could not leave. I have never seen someone act so out of line as a server. We never got a single item we ordered and had 2 other tables in front of our order that had been sitting for over an hour with no food as well.
That night we went to Coqui Fire Cafe. Which was absolutely incredible, service...
Read moreThe food is pretty spectacular and representative of authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. There are other options such as hamburgers, but neither my husband nor I had any of that type of food.
We first went to Biekes Bistro in January 2024, and ate there several times. My husband ate at BB several times on this visit. I only ate there once this trip (January into February).
My husband had the piña colada, which I tasted. It was delicious, and as you can see, variegated in color. I am really not sure what the red component was, maybe just grenadine, but a lot of sweets on the island include guava, so possibly guava.
We both ate the yucca fries, which are served with a really delicious dipping sauce. They were freshly made, HOT and crisp.
I had the mofongo relleno with shrimp in a garlic sauce, which was outstanding. There is also the option of Creole seasoning (criolla), which I thought would probably be too spicy for me. The garlic sauce was VERY garlicky, which was great for me, but might not be for everyone. The presentation was beautiful!
My husband had the pastelillo carne, which is essentially a fried meat pie, which he said was delicious. He also had the paella, which our server said was meant for two. It appeared to be enough for four to me. It was also quite delicious.
We had maduros (sweet plantains, fried) and I wish I could have eaten more. As it was I was only able to eat one yucca fry and one maduró due to eating so much mofongo that I had no room left!
The service was ok. The dining space and restroom were basic, but it was air conditioned, which is not always a...
