I recently visited El Fortin de Conde Mirasol Museum, a captivating testament to history and resilience. As the last Spanish fort built in the Americas, its restoration provides a unique opportunity to experience the past. The museum not only showcases the rich culture of the island but also sheds light on its struggles, including the impact of the US Navy bombings.
Wandering through the well-preserved fort, I was immersed in the island's history, appreciating the efforts to preserve and share this important heritage. The fact that admission is free makes it accessible to all, allowing everyone to connect with the island's profound narrative.
One of the highlights was the breathtaking view from the fort, offering a panoramic perspective of the various barrios. Witnessing the expanse of their journey through time, it was evident how much the island has endured and evolved.
El Fortin de Conde Mirasol Museum is not just a site to behold; it's a journey into the heart of Puerto Rico's past. I highly recommend this enriching experience for anyone eager to explore the island's history...
Read moreWhen I arrived, there was a man inside, just starting a tour, and he'd locked the outer door. I asked to be let in and he refused. Several minutes later, I asked again, and he just said "after." More than 30 minutes after arriving, he finally wrapped up the longest, slowest tour ever, and opened the gate to let me in, which was actually his job. I assume he was just trying to get a tip from the other group. At this point, I had to rush around to see everything, due to a lack of time. He did manage to lock me in, so I had to get his attention (from a cigarette and phone call) to let me out. I wanted to leave this review at the time but the museum was marked as "permanently closed" (probably because someone else came up here and found it locked, due to this useless keeper). I marked the site as "open" but you should read that with a HUGE caveat that you might not be able to get in. If anyone from the Ministry of Tourism reads this, please consider replacing the guy...
Read moreThe tour guide was very rude. He took a couple inside and showed them things and left us outside and locked the doors saying “those people of San Juan always want to go in ima lock them out, they wont come inside”. We are locals from Puerto Rico, lived here all our life and his comment was very unnecessary, the reason its closed its because he doesn’t want to do his job. As we left he proceeded to tell the couple to not post anything they saw on social media because they shouldn’t have been there in the first place. Very unprofessional behaviour towards us...
