This place was amazing. The rooms and common areas were spotless. The breakfast was delicious. Let me elaborate. Driving from Brooklyn, NY with my wife, 2 kids, and 2 cats to California. Planning on using La Quinta as they are pet friendly. After having a mediocre experience in Buffalo, I did not have high hopes for any subsequent motel experience. After Buffalo we stayed with a good friend in Chicago, and realizing the eclipse was on our potential route, diverted from our planned path through Rushmore. Of course most hotels were booked in the totality path, but Kearney had a cancellation so we headed there Sunday. On the way we stopped at a highly reviewed "grandma" home cooking place in Iowa with fried chicken, mashed potatoes, biscuits and gravy. I typically hate this kind of food, and this place confirmed my bias; it was bland, greasy and disgusting. My judgemental and picky Brooklyn attitude was out in full force. I reluctantly agreed with my wife that the Kearney La Quinta was new and clean and well cared for. The real surprise came at breakfast. The fare was typical simple complimentary breakfast: waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy. I don't normally like this type of food because it is really hard to get right. It has to be perfect to be good, or in my opinion, like the Iowa roadside "home cooking" it is inedible. But here, at the Kearney La Quinta, magic was at work in the kitchen. Everything was excellent. The eggs were moist and soft. The biscuits flaky/crusty on outside and hot/fluffy on inside. The gravy full of flavor. There was actual waffle batter in a dispenser and hot waffle irons churning out crispy perfect waffles. A woman scurried around tending everything like her life depended on it. Out in the dining area, during my second helping, I noticed another woman, cleaning up every last crumb and scrubbing the areas vacated by other guests. I would stay at this place again in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt saddens me to write this review, which I'm writing on behalf of my parents who are not tech savvy. My parents have stayed at this La Quinta many times, as have my husband and I, and we've always been impressed with how clean it was. Today, after many months in lockdown because they are in the high-risk category for COVID due to age and health, my parents finally started the drive from their apartment in Colorado to their home in Illinois. It's too long for them to drive in one day, so they decided to stay in Kearney again. Even their doctors told them this should be safe as long as the hotel has heightened protocols and they (my parents) wiped down everything themselves. Unfortunately they were checked in tonight to a filthy room that had crumbs and toothpicks on the floor. It obviously hadn't been vacuumed, which makes one wonder about how well it was cleaned in general. There were bed linens sitting in the hall. They requested someone come up and vacuum, and the man who came up wasn't wearing a mask. Whatever you think about the efficacy of masks, it's an easy precaution to take to protect guests, and this person came into the room of an elderly couple without a mask. (Yes, my parents should have denied him entrance, which is what I would have done. But they shouldn't have had to make that call.) My parents did bring their own disinfecting wipes and wiped down all surfaces, but the overall lack of cleanliness is beyond distressing. We knew there was risk for them to stay in a hotel, but felt the risk was as minimal as possible given the previous experiences we and they have had at this property. This was an unfortunate time to be proven otherwise. I am choosing to write this bad review, even after so many positive experiences, because in these circumstances, the lack of cleanliness is absolutely unacceptable. Management needs to be aware, and travelers...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTL;DR - I forgot an item in a room and had to fight several days to get any help, which still yielded no results
I stayed for 1 night a few days ago, the hotel is nice and the room was clean. The next morning, I was in a rush to leave and I forgot a pair of swim trunks hanging in the closet. I called later the same day to ask if they had been recovered, which I was informed they had not been. I was told to leave my information and that they would contact me once the housekeepers were done for the day. I never got a call back that day. I proceeded calling each day to ask if anything had been turned in and was met with ZERO desire from the staff to assist me or even contact me back. I was continuously told to leave my number, as if no one cared to communicate between one another about a guest looking for a forgotten item. By the 4th day of calling, one of the employees named Lindsay was very helpful and had told me she would check several areas and contact me back, which she did with no results, unfortunately. On my 5th day of checking, I was met with yet another employee who seemed completely disinterested in being helpful and I finally asked for a manager. The manager was very helpful and friendly, and also seemed to do her best to help me, but my shorts were still never recovered and it took AT LEAST 4 DAYS to get actual help. Iāve stayed at several hotels and have never had this much trouble receiving assistance or recovering an item. Be very careful staying at this hotel if youāre forgetful and want friendly service...
