This hotel is old. Very old. The 1980s computers at the front desk are stuff you'd only find at garage sales -10 years ago.
Upon walking in the front door I was greeted by a large barking dog. My room had that mildewy smell of old buildings that leak. I asked to change rooms, it was the same smell. The furniture has been there since the 70s. The TV was a small old tube Magnavox with a combination VCR and DVD player. I guess they have movies on tape there too. I can't imagine anyone enjoying a tape movie on a tube TV.
I was lying in bed watching TV trying to ignore the pungent smell, when I thought perhaps the odor was coming from the air conditioner. I turned it off and tried removing the front panel to check the filer when I noticed something on the floor- 3 dead bugs that looked a lot like I cockroaches. I saw a few more scattered around on the floor, and some on the windowsill and more on top of the baseboard heater. Now I'm really getting the creeps.
I went to the front desk and asked how long those dead cockroaches had been in the room. I was expecting something in the way of an apology, but she first corrected me that they were not cockroaches, and said they weren't cleaned up because the maid was really busy today, and that they crawl in through the windows. No apologies, no effort to clean them up, it was as if it was just normal for this place. After all, what do I expect in a podunk town for $85?
About 7:30pm I decided there was no way I could spend the night there. I packed up and left. I knew it wouldn't be easy finding a hotel room on a Saturday night in a resort community like Coeur D'Alene, and it wasn't. I had reservations for Sunday night near the airport so I called there and was able to arrive...
Read moreThe Silver Inn in Kellogg, Idaho has just undergone some renovations and I anticipated a fresh, clean hotel to stay in while passing through Idaho. We were planning to tour the Sierra Silver Mine the next morning (fantastic, highly recommend) and so it was the best option locally. We have a family of 5, so I booked two rooms with two queen beds. The older kids' room was fine, seemed clean and they were comfortable. Our room was AWFUL! (Room 27) Apparently someone had previously smoked in the room and the ionizer spray was chokingly thick and literally gave me a sore throat. We could barely stand it. With the help of the front desk, we opened the window and blasted the A/C. I sprayed some air scent, but it was still not enough. The hotel was full, so we were not able to switch rooms. The carpet is new, but the carpet panels were not staying together and were moving around as we walked around the room. The beds were comfortable and we enjoyed grabbing bottles of orange juice and granola bars from the breakfast bar for snacks later in the day. We brought our own food for breakfast. The staff were as accommodating as they could be and very nice, but still the whole experience was very...
Read moreHaving car problens...I checked in and upon entering room number 4 , the smell of cigarette smoke was so strong that I thought someone was in the room smoking. I returned to the front desk and told the staff member that I needed a non smoking room. She stated that they are all non smoking rooms and offered me a new room with an added cost. Upon entering room #12 , the over whelming smell of wet dog blasted me! I was discussed ! I sprayed all of my aerosol, lavender, hand sanitizer into the room to no avail. I shared with the morning staff of my unpleasant stay and received a measily 6 and change off of my room rental. The staff let me know that the room I was upgraded to was a pet friendly room. This is something I should have been aware before given a key. The staff was great! The rooms were very clean and the breakfast was an unexpected bonus. But the stenchy room made me feel like the room was gross! Having driven away I felt like they could have compensated a heck of a lot more. Returning is...
