Not being as tough as I would be if I had done this through our Airbnb account. The location is wonderful, right on the water. We have used their other property, Seaside Inn, for years, so know the area well. Have noticed over the years, things had began to slip on the upkeep & service side of that prooerty, but things do age & harder to get longterm staff that are invested in their work. This was a spur of the moment trip & the Seaside was booked, so we thought would be nice to try this one. Words to the wise. The steps are a HUGE issue! We know most places here are storied homes & will have stairs, but these are challenging, especially the outside stairs, which appear to be the only entry. Also all rooms are located on the upper floors. Not a good place for those who are unaccustomed to steep, possibly steps of uneven height, especially carrying luggage. That being said, it is a older home that has it's characteristics, such as creaking floors, slow hot water & listening to you upstair's neighbor's goings & comings. Understanding it is used as an event venue, it would be nice if the common areas were better dressed for regular guests to enjoy, than a stripped down area ready for set-up. Might attract more business! This is also not a true B&B, so breakfast is not included, sadly, not much else is either. In the past, at least, at the Seaside, plenty of coffee, condiments & small packaged pastries were available. But, sadly, those little extra touches seem to have dwindled over the years. Other than 4 Keurig cups & 2 condiment packs, off you go down & then back up those stairs to go buy coffee to sit on the balcony & enjoy your view. Again, it is a charming place. The view is wonderful, especially from the Widow's Walk upstairs & with just a touch here & there would be perfect! Also, the area has been pretty much taken over by the bar scene & our favorite shopping & dining places are gone or almost non-existent, due to the overpowering influence of the nightlife here now. If that is your thing, you will enjoy it here. We will probably be looking elsewhere in the Kemah area & probably with a different property management group. Spent many happy years at the Seaside Inn, but trying out one of their other properties has convinced us, that for the price, there are many other places to explore that might offer a more of an...
Read moreYou can't beat the view of the bay, the ships, and shoreline up & down Kemah. Sitting on the balcony while reading and listening to the waves hit the shore is great! To address the "the NO breakfast" complaint- The reservation information supplied before one ever commits clearly states that a "breakfast basket" with fruit & pastries is provided. This is great for those who cannot stand to have to go downstairs and sit with strangers to eat breakfast cooked by the owners of a house. To address the "almost too quiet" complaint- The more secluded and alone, the better. We loved it that hardly anyone else was there. (No staff stays on the premises.) It is unfortunate that the room was not cleaned and properly stocked for one customer's stay. Hopefully, this was a one time event. Our room was clean & well-stocked. When we noticed that we had a few lightbulbs out, I called and left a message with the office. Someone came & replaced the bulbs within a few hours. Our only complaint was the the A/C filter was almost stopped up and needed changed badly. Housekeeping came by with a filter, but it was wrong size. Hopefully, problem is fixed by now. Something that could be improved- Housekeeping does not clean your room daily. You have to take out your own trash and breakfast was not provided for our 2nd night. Our room fortunately had extra towels & washclothes, so it was not a problem for us. I would recommend this place to anyone as long as you are alright with...
Read moreWhen we first walked in, we were impressed. The home is stately, quiet, and filled with lovely antiques. We checked out the balconies and, though the furniture had seen better days, they were certainly pleasant places to sit and watch the gulls, pelicans, and boats. Then we checked out our room. On first look, all seemed good then I started noticing things that made me question the cleanliness of the room. There was a used washcloth on the shower rod. Though the bathroom floor looked clean when we arrived, the move we walked around we started noticing something black and fuzzy along with long black hairs on the floor. We can only surmise we were tracking it in off the bedroom carpet since both of us have short, graying hair. Then, when the light hit it just right, we saw that every glass top item and mirror were smeared with something oily. Since our breakfast basket had not been delivered yet (as promised on their web-site) I left a note for housekeeping and we left to drive down to Galveston. We arrived back to find the room exactly as we had left it and it was too late to call at that time. Luckily, the towels and bed linens were very nice and very clean. The room never got cleaned while we were there and when we asked about the missing breakfast, we were told there was none and that was an old web-site. Very disappointed and would never recommend this...
