I am writing this as subjectively as possible, as there were many issues well outside of the control of the management team during our stay.
The room was cute, well decorated, sufficiently stocked with all that one might need for a three-day weekend stay.
Unfortunately, my husband requested a room for two for our anniversary weekend trip and while we did get a room for two, it was a twin bed and a double bed. Not exactly the romantic escape he had envisioned. While it would have been nice if the staff had decided to offer a queen or king or advise him it was a quaint family room, it did meet the requirements that he requested.
The parking is limited, as is the case with most every place in Key West, but there is no assigned parking. While there is ample parking for 1 vehicle per cottage, if one car (or three cars, as was our case) decide to haphazardly park across more than one parking space, the spaces are limited half almost immediately. With no afterhours staff on site, there is no means of having this issue resolved. The same is the situation when a vehicle without a parking pass decides to park in a space (which happened our second night), there is no one there to enforce the parking guidelines.
While there are signs and notices in your check in material to observe lower volumes at later hours, as it is a residential community, there is no onsite afterhours staff to make sure this happens, so if guests (and others in the area) decide to drop by for an all-nighter pool party with music and conversation about performing sexual acts in exchange for illegal substances, shy of calling law enforcement, there is nothing to make this stop.
The layout of the patio area is such that once you enter the gate (which is never locked despite being issued a gate code and having numerous signs telling guests to keep it locked and no onsite staff to make sure this happens), you step onto a patio followed by a pool and must maneuver through the guests to get to the foot bridge to your room area.
The breakfast offerings are atypical of most hotels, but are frozen waffles and other such microwavable goodies. Not exactly something to write home about, but a nice touch.
The mini fridge is exactly that, about half the size of most mini fridges but it was a mini fridge.
The A/C is a window unit and it kept the room at a very comfortable temperature, and ran fairly quietly, unfortunately allowing you to continue to hear the drunken offerings of lewd behaviour for illegal substances carrying on outside your door.
The pool is too small for any real childish enjoyment and is at capacity after about 3 guests are in it.
I would not suggest this site for a family. Period. Since the management cannot control the behaviour of its guests and is not present to enforce any of the guest activity, I would suggest only booking if you’re a couple or single and just wanting to experience Key West with no care for sleep,...
Read moreHave been here a dozen times in 15 years or so.... Fantastic and true to Key West. It breaks my heart to see friends/family go to key west and stay in some slick hotel and then come back and tell me they didn't like key west... Truth is staying on those properties and venturing off for dinner - they never even touched the charm and spirit of Key West. To enjoy Key West - and if you are wound to tight, too straight or too snobby - you won't! - you must avoid the fancy pants hotels and stay in a true Key West laid back place. Embrace the love in the air, share smiles and hold hands with whoever you are with - let yourself be more friendly and outgoing than you have ever been - maybe you'll get lucky and take some of that home with you...! Courtney's Place is one such wonderful place - perhaps the best - and unfortunately the island is loosing out to "a bunch of vanilla white people from Ohio who get off of cruise ships for a few hours and are fixated on buying a few tee shirts on Duval which also is becoming remarkably like your local shopping mall... but I digress... Courtney's Place is always friendly, clean and lovely. I brought my two teenagers there - they are tough customers! Both - my son and daughter thought it and the surrounding area were among the prettiest places they have ever been. If you are first time visitor - strongly consider driving down the keys from Miami - as that drive is magical and ensures you are de-compressed upon arrival...
Read moreI am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" but I have never been so mad! Never mind the barking dogs all hours, the room being damp, and the ceramic soap dish literally falling out of the wall while I was in the shower, but we went for the 4th of July weekend for our anniversary and when we made it back to MS on Tuesday, I realized that I had left a pair of my sunglasses laying on the bed, and then when I unpacked, I realized I had a shirt missing. I have been calling them every since and leaving message after message begging them to call me back so I can get my stuff back and even offered to pay to get it shipped to me...It has been almost a month now, and they have yet to return my phone calls. So if you happen to stay there, don't leave anything behind bc apparently they automatically consider it theirs. Yes its my fault that I left things behind, but a returned phone call would be awesome even if they lied and said they didn't find anything.. What really puts the icing on the cake is after we checked out, we came back and sat there for a while at the office until it was close to time for us to catch our boat, and we were talking to the woman that runs it and she knew exactly who we were and never once mentioned that they found anything in our room and we knew for a fact that it had already been cleaned bc she told us so... I will NEVER go back there and I myself am a travel agent and I would never put any of my clients...
