A Perfect Key West Escape at The Truman Hotel
Our stay at The Truman Hotel in Key West was nothing short of exceptional. This charming boutique hotel, with its 35 thoughtfully designed rooms, provided the perfect blend of comfort, style, and hospitality. We stayed in room 201, which was beautifully appointed with modern touches and fixtures.
The pool and sun area were absolute highlights of our trip. The deckchairs and chaise lounges were perfect for relaxing under the Florida sun, and the communal vibe of the space was delightful. During our stay, the hotel even hosted a Super Bowl watch party, which was attended by many of the guests, creating a fun and inclusive atmosphere. While we did notice that smoking is allowed in public areas in Florida (including the pool area), this is a state policy and not a reflection of the hotel itself.
The included breakfast was a lovely way to start each day, with options like croissants (one per person, as the staff kindly reminded us), coffee, juice, and fresh fruit. The staff throughout our stay were incredibly friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to assist us—even helping resolve an issue with a third-party booking site.
One of our favorite features was the complimentary happy hour with wine, which served as the perfect pre-dinner interlude. The bartender was not only skilled but also a fountain of local knowledge, offering great recommendations for exploring Key West.
The location of The Truman Hotel is unbeatable—just 1 1/2 blocks from Duval Street, in Old Town in the heart of Key West's vibrant tourist scene. Duval Street is a must-visit for its eclectic mix of restaurants, bars, and shops. We highly recommend stopping by Moondog for their incredible Key Lime Pie and Sloppy Tom's for their frozen strawberry lemonade margarita.
Overall, The Truman Hotel was the ideal home base for our Key West adventures. From the modern, comfortable rooms to the welcoming staff and fantastic amenities, everything exceeded our expectations. We would not hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Key West. Thank you, Truman Hotel, for making our trip...
Read moreWe visited the Truman Hotel in January 2025 for 4 nights.
Luckily we “only” paid about $250 per night.
First of all, the hotel is very centrally located in Key West, Duval Street is only a few minutes away, bars and restaurants can be reached quickly. There is a small heated pool. You should choose the loungers by the pool carefully, many of them are in the shade during the day.
Unfortunately our room faced the street. Especially on the weekend, vehicles stayed at the next traffic light late into the night, the bass of the music was so loud that our windows vibrated.
In addition, other guests came late at night, talking, laughing loudly in the courtyard until 4am. Unfortunately there is no employee active at night to prevent something like this.
The air conditioning was super loud, we had it completely deactivated at night because otherwise we couldn't sleep. The only thing that woke you up was the air conditioning in the next room. That's also the reason why I can't understand the many positive reviews here.
There is an adjacent scooter/golf cart rental facility. He washes his vehicles with a high-pressure cleaner by 9 at the latest. Nothing to do with peace again.
The rooms were very clean, the bathroom door dragged on the floor.
Breakfast consisted of croissants, baggle, yogurt. There was also coffee and orange juice. Unfortunately everything is on paper plates and plastic dishes - that's simply no longer up to date. The service at breakfast was super friendly and was very happy about our tip.
Unfortunately, we cannot recommend a hotel where you...
Read moreA girlfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights the first week of October. The staff was wonderful, the grounds immaculate and the pool area was very clean and relaxing. My main issue was our room, 109 was very damp. At first I thought the air conditioning had been off so that is why everything felt damp, including the bed coverings and smelled musty. I talked to the front desk and they gave me an OZone machine (evidentially they’ve had this problem before). It seemed to take some of the smell away, but not the moisture. He did offer at the first mention of the situation to give me a new room, but I declined, thinking that the air conditioner would kick in and solve the problem. It did not! Our swimsuits never dried in the room. By the time we left after 2 days, all our clothes in our suitcases were damp and smelled. Glad we only stayed 2 days and thankful to have a washer at the next stop to clean all our clothes. I have written a letter to the management, so hopefully they will take care of the problem. Otherwise, we loved the room, location and it also had a parking garage. Not sure I will return though.....so if you stay, check the smell in the room and if it’s musty when you walk in...it won’t get any better. Change rooms, or leave. Also, I am a travel agent and feel obligated to inform future guests of...
