Lovely inn. I do recommend.
Our room was the Courtyard suite. We had a private patio.
The breakfast basket was nice in the morning, nothing too too fancy; hard boiled eggs, little boxed cereal, organic milk juice box, or a toasted bagel… nothing with a lot of love but completely fine!
A recommendation for breakfast, a slip to fill out for the breakfast order maybe the night prior or the morning-of or maybe an included timeframe for breakfast. Maybe the order could be collected before arrivals so that staff can pick up the order and drop it off without a phone call in the morning.
I say this because the morning we were leaving the lady was giving a tour, and I could tell she was running around, and here I was in my pjs, no bra, asking for breakfast in front of other guests. Felt strange.
One morning I called to order breakfast and asked if coffee could be delivered which to my surprise…the front desk lady replied, “ I am not a barista” which I was taken aback by but maybe she thought that was a charming answer. Not sure. When I went into the inn to make my own coffee she said something like, “ I wouldn’t want to mess it up” and at that point, I wanted the coffee and was all set talking about it.
Our room offered completely zero outside light. The windows opened which was nice but an overall dark room because if the blinds were open…the room had zero privacy…zero however we loved it and just kept the lights on.
The pool is blocked by trees so, it’s not a lot of overhead sun which we didn’t mind but if you are looking for a nice tan this is not the inn for you.
Don’t worry about sunblock, after sun lotion or beach towels the inn has them for guests to use which was a nice treat, we loved this.
The inn offers beer, coffee, tea, wine, water, juice, pop, on an honor system… a tip is recommended which I thought was ok and did throw cash in the jar, as there is a Karma sign hanging, to haunt you otherwise.
I liked the vibe of the inn, the mattress was comfortable, nice water pressure in the shower. Everything seemed fresh and clean.
A odd thing was champagne in a glass case, no clue who long it was in there for or if was something to buy as I think it was going for 85 dollars but it wasn’t advertised.
The laminated one pager inside of the room: could have been updated to reflect breakfast changes, bike details, or champagne offers ( as I would have loved the champagne) I do not recall seeing it so, I would have been another conversation with the staff.
Anytime I did call, as I asked for an extra luggage rack and for maid service, I was so please to find everything was provided or taken care of.
The inn also offers bikes which are 20 dollars more, I couldn’t believe it wasn’t included within the cost of the inn but so- it- goes.
The staff leaves at five so if you do not talk to them, you will not have information about the bikes as mentioned I didn’t see it inside of the room or posted anywhere it might be on their email link- maybe I missed it but everything worked out.
I would recommend this inn as its close to beaches shops, bars, breakfast spots, etc.
Everything was nice, the inn is charming, and I will...
Read moreThe room and facility were wonderful but they do not provide proper locks to ensure security of the guests' property and personal safety. I returned to the Inn at 8:30 PM with my wife from dinner to find a guest was blackout drunk and had fallen, leaving a bloody gash on his forehead. The guest was yelling obscenities and struggling to open the door to a room. The guest left the front door open on busy Duval St. while waiting for an ambulance and then a taxi, yelling in the streets all the while. I did not appreciate having to wait for a half-hour down the block because I knew the guest would leave the door open after leaving, which occurred as predicted. Obviously the guest returned late at night and woke us up while partying in the courtyard (a charming courtyard nonetheless).
While the Tropical Inn may not be able to control the behavior of its guests, they did not provide guests with the keys to the dead bolt locks to their rooms and the front door. The locks on the handles allow for doors to be forced open. The front desk was courteous upon checking-in, but when checking-out they simply explained to me that Key West doesn't have any crime so I had nothing to worry about, not admitting that they simply have keys to the secure locks that guests are not able to use. I responded that there must be crime, particularly trespassing, with hundreds of drunk people walking the streets from sun-up to sun-down. Also, a club down the street plays music until 2 AM, although I expected this on Duval St.
All in all the hotel was welcoming and the property charming but they were not willing to accept responsibility for a problem they know exists, considering they instructed us on the funny locks to the doors...
Read moreThis was our second visit to Tropical Inn. If you want to experience Key West and don't want a cookie cutter room at a resort, this is the best place to stay. All the buildings were built in or around the 1800's so there is your Key West quirkiness. But the rooms have a touch of style and grace in their decor. The location is great - it is in the middle of Duval Street so you are within walking distance of everything. Our room faced out onto Pineapple Lane which means you are part of the neighborhood, but the neighborhood is quiet. You can hear the music from a local bar on your private deck, but it wasn't really loud and they played a wide variety of music, so it was like a radio with no commercials. You cannot hear the music inside the room. The fridge in the mini kitchen is full sized, so stock up on anything you may want at hand - there will be room for it. Walgreen's is right down the street and, not sure, but an old fashion grocery store close by for fresh fruits and such, ask Brandi - she will know and be able to help you with easy directions or call you a cab. Now, the true test of a place - when something goes wrong. Our room had an outdoor hot tub. We had problems the first night and said something to Brandi that next morning. By the time we were done walking all day that day, we came home to an operational hot tub. It was wonderful! The true test of a place is how problems are handled and how quickly they are resolved. Thank you, Brandi's Dad, for getting the hot tub working in time for us to enjoy it after a long day of walking. I would recommend Tropical...
