Oh boy, where to begin with this review. It’s been a bit since I’ve even written a review but the experience my boyfriend and I had at this hotel warrants the time spent writing this. For background, we reserved via Expedia for weekend stay for my birthday.
We arrived at 11pm and called the number of the door for a “late check in” - the blonde night lady employed at this hotel was a HOT MESS. On the phone asked several times, “why are you calling?” Uhh, because it’s the late check in number? When she finally came down to meet us, she was disheveled at best - and yes I understand, “island life” and “island vibes” but at the end of the day, this is still a business. She immediately told us they had not received our reservations and they were “completely booked.” Upon showing proof of our reservation then they suddenly had 2 rooms open. She asked for proof of reservation several times which we provided several times to which I finally had to straight out ask, “what more proof do you need?”
We ended up having to pay $500 to stay there that night. So buyer beware, they may not have your reservation, they may not have a room for you, and they’ll ask you for an extra $500.
The next day, we attempted to resolve this issue. The dayshift brunette Spanish-speaking lady was there - bursting with horrible attitude. She blamed Expedía for “never sending the reservation” and basically told us we would be refunded for the $500 from the first night, we could stay there another night, and then would have to pack up and move to their sister hotel for the remainder of our stay. There were zero apologies on their behalf OR attempts to compensate us for these inconveniences. Also, ZERO attempts for them to contact Expedia to find out where the disconnect was - when I asked if she could call and find out, she literally said, “You can do that.”
So, I did. Expedia showed us proof that the reservation was sent over and offered to speak with them. After the conversation between expedida and the Pegasus Hotel staff, suddenly, the reservation was found! So Expedia was not at fault after all.
When I called the hotel to inquire as to how they magically found the reservation, their condescending dayshift brunette Spanish-speaking brunette explained it and proceeded to say, “I don’t expect you to understand.” When I replayed the entire inconvenient situation to her and asked if there was anything else they could offer us she basically said that finding us the sister hotel to stay at was their attempt to compensate and they would do nothing else. Basically just honoring our original reservation…
THEN - and it gets better, she called me back and said per the owner, they were going to cancel our reservation altogether and we needed to move our things ASAP.
I guess we were being too problematic pointing out their poor business practices - so we had nowhere to stay.
LUCKILY - Expedia was fantastic and quickly found us a new home - Cabanna Inn - around the corner and WORLDS better than Pegasus Hotel - the staff has been amazing, the vibe is entirely beachy, they have a heated pool, daily hot breakfast, daily happy hour, and cabanas to just lounge in and nap. It ended up being the best possible outcome and COMPLETELY worth this aggravating experience to find them.
So, unless you’re willing to chance unprofessional, condescending staff telling you that your reservation was never received, you have to pay and extra $500, and have them do nothing else to fix it except kick you out - be their guest and stay at Pegasus Hotel.
But if you actually want to enjoy your vacation and feel relaxed and welcomed - stay...

From the outside, the hotel presents itself as a typical small city establishment. As we entered through the main door from the bustling street, it almost felt like stepping into a small retail shop for a moment. The hotel appears to be housed in a heritage building, situated in a fantastic location where the lively energy of the city continues until the early hours of the morning.||||Upon entering, we were greeted by a small but tidy reception area. However, our initial interaction left much to be desired. We were met by Lyuba, an individual whose demeanor was strikingly cold and unfriendly—almost as if we had encountered a prison guard rather than a hotel receptionist. Without any hint of a smile or a warm greeting, she curtly asked if we had a reservation. This unexpected and off-putting first impression certainly had us bracing for the worst as we made our way to our room.||||To our pleasant surprise, the room exceeded our expectations. It was immaculately clean, with a lovely view overlooking the street. The air conditioning worked perfectly, and the linens were fresh, accompanied by a comfortable bed and clean towels. The only downside was the small bathroom, where the shower cubicle’s size caused water to splash out—a minor inconvenience, but worth noting.||||As we headed out to explore the town, our perception of the hotel shifted once again when we encountered Natalia at the reception. Natalia is truly a breath of fresh air. Her warmth, enthusiasm, and genuine hospitality transformed our experience. She went above and beyond, sharing details about the hotel’s amenities and taking the time to discuss Key West’s dining scene. She even highlighted her favorite restaurants in a dining guide she provided, all while expressing her pride in having worked at Pegasus for nearly a decade. It’s rare to meet someone like Natalia—her passion for her work and her care for guests are exactly what make travelers want to return.||||While our stay at Pegasus was a bit of a rollercoaster in terms of service, Natalia’s kindness and professionalism were the highlight. We hope that when we return, we’ll once again be welcomed by her warmth. As for Lyuba, perhaps her talents would be better suited...
