The pictures at this facility were very misleading and I didn't realize that we were going to a motel. I was very disappointed to say the least. We ended up having our fishing trip be a day trip instead of staying overnight at the facility we just utilized it for an expensive closet for a 4-5 Hour fishing trip. She did allow us Early Access to the room without an extra fee because she said she believed me when I said that I wasn't a smoker. A very odd thing to say as the person in the adjacent room was smoking a cigarette right outside the door sitting in the parking lot in a roll away desk chair so that he could relax. No other place to lounge! So as soon as we open the door to room the cigarette smoke took over the whole facility along with the damp musty smelling room in the building that we were assigned. We went fishing, then my husband was ready to go back to the room and I just wanted to stay at the river instead because at least I was comfortable there I felt like I was in a cleaner environment where I can breathe fresh air so when we went back to the room it only took 10 minutes to decide to just come back home. We didn't stop at a restaurant or utilize any of the wonderful things there in Lawrence, we just came back home so disappointed for the waste of our time, energy and money. It was such an emotional letdown as I had been looking forward to a visit with my friend who lives only 20 miles away but didn't get to see her at all. One of her friends picked up the jackets that I left behind in my rush to leave a few days later and Amy saved them for her to pick up. I had made arrangements with her to do so and I do appreciate that she did keep them for me. So that's why she earns two stars instead of just one. 💢💢

Located on the corner of W 6th St & Schwartz Rd, it is conveniently situated, flanked by Kobe Japanese Restaurant on one side & a gas station on the adjacent corner. Parking is plentiful with two stories of guest rooms. Access to the second floor consists of using ramps, which are easy on the knees and for rolling luggage. The rooms are extremely spacious, including the sink/vanity area, which is separate from the spacious bathroom. Our room had 2 queen beds, desk, wardrobe, dresser, mini fridge, microwave and television. The room was clean and inviting. Staff was very friendly and attentive. The (small) lobby has a stand with area brochures & pamphlets. Continental breakfast is available 6-9 a.m., consisting of hard boiled eggs, juice, milk, breads for toasting, bagels, muffins, danishes, cold cereals, oatmeal, coffee, tea, & fruit. The ice machine is at the far end of the parking lot, but we just made sure to take our ice bucket to the car when we left for the day, and before returning to our room, stopped for ice. I highly recommend staying at the Virginia Inn. It took us less than 3 minutes to get to Massachusetts St for shopping & dining, and about 5 minutes down Iowa St to get to University of Kansas. Heading west on 6th St from the Inn will take you within minutes to more dining, Dillons (grocery), Walmart, CVS, Walgreens. Also, be sure to search through sites such a Expedia, Priceline, etc to find a savings prior to booking a room! There is no swimming pool here, if that is important for you. Advertised on third party site as having "one room left" when I needed to find a room for my in-laws after another hotel booked on a different third-party site overbooked them. (We found out when we called the hotel at 11:30pm to see if they could check in after midnight.) I called the hotel directly to skip the third party middleman, and they had multiple rooms available. The third-party site I saw the Virginia Inn room on advertised the price of the room as $53 to like $62. We found out, after the front desk lady ran our card, they charged us $213! Yes, our fault for not asking first, but almost 4x the advertised price?!?!? For this basic hotel??? Nah. Then to top it off, my in-laws were awoken by a knock at 9am by the cleaning lady...they had not checked out. Especially painful after arriving in the middle of the night. My in-laws had stayed there once and were pleased....not sure what happened in the past 6 months, but it's unacceptable.

I chose this Inn for an over night stay in Lawrence during the NCAA West Regional's, mainly due to the favorable google reviews and also because I needed a non smoking facility. I am severely allergic to smoke. I was excited when I spoke to them on the phone and they told me they were a "Non Smoking Facility"! This meant I wouldn't have to dodge & avoid people smoking in the parking lot! Upon arrival, we checked in and got our key card. We parked as close as we could to the ramp that led to our second floor room. We got out of our vehicle and I immediately smelled the faint smell of POT! We got a couple things out of our car to take to the room and I asked my husband if he smelled it. He didn't at that moment. We headed to our room and at the top of the ramp we were stopped dead in our tracks as we were overwhelmed with the smell of pot! We immediately turned around and went back to our vehicle & then to the office! We asked for another room farther away from the smokers. (Our room was right next to theirs and that would have been really bad for me!) In the office we were made to sit and wait while the clerk checked out our claim, which was ridiculous! She checked in another guest in the meantime, while we sat there waiting. Of course, they were only smoking cigarettes by the time she got there because of the time she took to check in the other people. All we wanted was a different room, farther away from the smokers. We didn't think that should have taken 30 minutes. We weren't asking her to call the cops or anything! We just wanted what we were promised: A non smoking room! We didn't think it would be that big of a deal in a "Non Smoking Facility"! So after our wait, we finally got the keys to a room farther from the smokers. They totally got away with their smoking on the balcony of the "non smoking facility"......whatever! Dont make the claim if you wont back it up! So we finally get into our room and look around.....and I realize real quickly that the good reviews are all lies! It wasn't clean enough. I've only had one other hotel room that was dirtier than this one. (we've traveled to a lot of XC & Track meets for 9 yrs now!!) It looked like a room from the 80's. The bathroom was horrible and needs to be remodeled. It had an old musty smell like it used to be a "smoker friendly" room. In addition, the beds were so hard we woke up with back aches. To top it all off, the room was horribly over priced and not worth the money we had to pay for it! We have had better stays at much cheaper hotels! I would not stay at this hotel again if they gave me a...

When I relocated to Lawrence Kansas unfortunately I was unable to immediately find a suitable residence & began to stay in the local hotels. Most of the hotel rates in the city are far above my budget. So I began to stay in what appeared to be the smaller mom&pop establishments. & me being a person who always pays close attention to the small details, how clean the establishment is, rooms, beds, bathrooms, linens, furniture & even the exterior of the property which always tells you alot about the care & maintenance the Proprietors put into any Pride of professionalism in their business. I always found some or even alot of things that where very undesirable. Noisy guest, unattendtive & even at times absent staff, loud party's, mix match &/or broken furniture, lumpy and uncomfortable beds, suspicious & even possible drug-related Behavior by other guests, Broken in vehicles & last but not the least greatest bugs in my room, that freaked me out, yuck. So after moving from hotel to hotel a couple of times I finally found the Virginia Inn located on 6th Street in Lawrence KS. Here I quickly learned that me,a guest, the customer, comes first. My safety, comfort & all around well-being is always the first topic of any conversation with these wonderful people. Not party's or loud noises, why we're the police here last-night Or ridiculously exorbitant rates. It seems that all of the employees along with the other staff & even guest are in the most Pleasant of moods. They're charm and positive attitudes create such an upbeat tone for the beginning of any day, & they are so very helpful in every way. No detail was left unchecked, & the rooms were immaculately clean. The maid, Virginia is her name is one of the sweetest ladies you could ever meet. She has the most positive & wonderful attitude of genuine kindness. The grounds are clean and well cared for along with 24-hour safety & security. And most important the rates are very affordable. I've been here for 4 months now and am not only able to comfortably afford my room fee but also left with the ability to save some money. The Virginia in Personnel have such a wonderful charm to them it's almost like you've been friends for years, you miss them when you leave and you'll be excited to see them when you come back so if you come to Lawrence check out the Virginia Inn located on 6th Street it's a stay I promise you won't regret, Peace, Quiet, comfort, and most important safety of the guest and there family it's what makes the Virginia Inn a home...
