The Doctor’s Sax House in the Berkshires is nothing short of an insult to the storied tradition of New England inns. This establishment is not a hotel, nor even a proper inn—it is, at best, a poorly conceived Airbnb masquerading as a destination. Owned and operated by Kelley and her husband, apparent transplants from New York City, the Sax House lacks even a shred of the charm, professionalism, or hospitality one might expect from a proper Berkshires retreat.
The property itself is abysmally situated, offering none of the amenities or atmosphere one hopes for in the region. It feels more like an overinflated ego project than a welcoming getaway. Kelley, the ostensible “hostess,” exemplifies everything wrong with the place—obnoxious, loud, and thoroughly self-absorbed. Her behavior is more befitting a brash partygoer than someone running an establishment purportedly designed for relaxation and refinement.
The rooms are an absolute disgrace. Cramped and uninspired, they lack even basic comforts such as televisions, which might at least distract one from the glaring deficiencies of the accommodations. Decorated with the aesthetic sensibilities of a college dormitory, the rooms feature cheap mini-split units and barely functional furnishings. Nothing about them evokes luxury, or even comfort.
To add insult to injury, the lack of amenities is staggering. There is no pool, no parking, and no place to congregate without feeling as though you are intruding in someone’s private home. The bar is unremarkable, the staff inattentive, and the overall atmosphere is one of utter pretension without substance.
This establishment is an affront to the Berkshires’ reputation, which has historically been synonymous with charm and class. Those seeking a genuine New England inn experience should bypass this travesty and head to places such as the White Hart Inn in Salisbury, Connecticut, or the Red Lion Inn. These are institutions that understand hospitality and provide guests with attentive service, beautiful accommodations, and thoughtful amenities.
The Doctor’s Sax House, on the other hand, represents everything the Berkshires should not be—a shallow, self-indulgent vanity project for people with no understanding of the hospitality industry. Kelley and her husband would be better suited to taking their misplaced ambitions back to Long Island, where their brand of pompous mediocrity might at least be tolerated.
Save yourself the disappointment and spend your money elsewhere. The Doctor’s Sax House is not worth even a fleeting glance, let alone an...
Read moreOur surprise stay at Dr. Sax house was the highlight of an incredible last minute trip! We were given last minute tickets to see James Taylor on July 3rd and everything for miles was booked (and had been for over a year!) A local suggested that I give Dr. Sax a call even though they weren’t yet officially open. Kelly was unbelievably helpful and accommodating! Some of the rooms didn’t yet have beds in them and the decor on the first floor was in process, but that didn’t stop the team from making us feel like we were THE guests they had been preparing for for weeks!! The ROOMS were appointed flawlessly with every comfort thought of for relaxation. The showers were divine! The beds super comfortable! And the entire hotel including our room, was spotlessly clean - an incredible feat while under construction. We were on the top floor in a room with a skylight. The restaurant wasn’t fully open but Kelly and staff prepared a tasting menu set for Kings for us (and most of it was on the house- thank you again!!). The food was incredible- you must try the home made jam! The bar staff made us feel so welcome and allowed us to stay late, continuing our evening long after they retired (it was a soft open- and they were all working around the clock to make everything perfect!). The space is absolutely stunning and located right in town - walking distance to everything. Kelly accommodated our every request and made us feel at home. Stay here. I can’t imagine any place...
Read moreWe recently hosted my grandfather's 90th birthday dinner at the Doctor Sax House in Lenox, MA, and it was nothing short of wonderful. From the moment we arrived, the level of service and attention to detail was truly exceptional.
Kelly, the owner and creative director, did a great job bringing everything together. Her professionalism and clear dedication to making the event special were evident in every interaction. Rebecca, the event planner, was equally incredible--her design and decor decisions created a beautiful, inviting atmosphere that struck the perfect tone for the evening. She was instrumental in making sure every detail was thoughtful and on point.
The setup was perfect, the food was delicious, and the entire evening flowed seamlessly thanks to this outstanding team. Our family will never forget this celebration, and we're so grateful to the Doctor Sax House for making it all happen.
Highly recommend Kelly and her team for any special event or just a getaway to somewhere unique and full of character in the Berkshires. Thank you again for a truly...
