8/72025: You can’t make this stuff up. After we were seated on the porch and started with drinks, a customer brought a dog in and was seated along with her dog at the nearby table! A nice friendly dog, but still, it’s not as though we were at a city fast food location. This was a major management fail. Not happy. Back again summer 2024. Firstly, this is a great choice within the Lenox area. Unfortunately, the halibut was non-desccript, yet the overall experience was enjoyable. 2018 review. The difference a year makes! Last year at this time, my wife and I would have given 5 stars. Don’t get me wrong, the manager and staff are wonderful, so this is about the main courses served on 7/1/18. My stripe bass was 3/4 oily dark meat. Was sent back. My wife had the trout...bland. Disappointed considering the pricey menu.

If you go to Alta during the summer, I’d recommend making a reservation first. We walked by just as it opened for dinner and even though most of the chairs were empty, we were told they were fully booked. We managed to get seats at the quaint bar where they served a full dinner. The delicious meal was served in larger portions than expected. The crab cakes were crispy balls served with cream corn that tasted like chowder—a kind of deconstructed crab chowder, if you will. The radicchio and greens on top of the green pea risotto gave it a nice texture. The herb-encrusted cod was cooked well. Both dishes had a heavy buttery flavor, which made for a rich meal—one I’d prefer to eat leisurely at a table rather than squeezed into a bar, which quickly became very crowded.

Visiting the Berkshires for the Stockbridge Christmas Festival. Booked a reservation for dinner at Alta Wine bar along with our two friends.

We were greeted warmly by the owner upon arrival and he immediately sat us at a table adjacent to the bar. Was worried it might be too loud but not at all.

Our server, Robert, came to welcome us right after we were seated. He informed us about tonight’s specials and was patient / knowledgeable in answering our several questions including making some really helpful drink and entrée recommendations.

We started with drinks from the bar and they were all excellent! Next up were our appetizers… 3 of us had the house special mushroom soup while my wife had the goat cheese appetizer. Delicious, all around.

For dinner two of us had the beef tenderloin and the other two enjoyed the cod fish. I asked Robert if I could sub the root vegetables for the polenta on my steak entree which the kitchen gladly accommodated.

We finished with dessert - the chocolate caramel cake, lemon sorbet and vanilla ice cream. All were equally delicious and a great way to end our meals at Alta.

The entire staff were pleasant, professional and knowledgeable. If you’re in the Lenox area, Alta Wine Bar is a must visit location.

The bar is set high… let’s hope the other restaurants we’re visiting during our stay are as good as the meal we had tonight.

Job well done!!!

Thank you to everyone at Alta Wine Bar for an outstanding...

Reservation problems have helped us discover other fine restaurants in Lenox including Bistro Zinc this past Friday evening. After calling Alta and making reservations two weeks ago, we arrived for dinner at the appointed hour and were informed that we didn't have reservations at Alta and, indeed had reservations at the Church Street Cafe. As in past years, my wife had called Alta and made the reservation. Of course, she telephoned the Alta phone number and the person who answered identified the number as Alta. We don't even know the phone number for the Church Street Cafe and did NOT telephone Alta's "sister" establishment. However, the maitre d' insisted we HAD called Church Street Cafe and indicated our reservation was there. He made no effort to accept my position nor any effort to find room for the two of us either. He was rude and insisted I had not called Alta since we were not "in our book." We left and found a friendly and warm reception at the Bistro Zinc. Our meal was excellent, the staff courteous, and sensitive to our problem at the previous establishment and offered dessert on the house to soothe our hurt feelings from the Alta experience. Later, at the theatre, the couple in line behind us at Alta who also had a "reservation" told us their reservation had also been lost along with another couple's standing behind them. It seems we were not the only ones falling victim to Alta's reservation...

This is the first Google review of a restaurant I have ever done but was so blown away by Alta that I felt I had to share. I would give 10 stars if I could. My parents and I were meeting for a birthday dinner (me traveling from NY and them from Boston) so we were not quite sure what to expect (we are not huge Mediterranean food enthusiasts and so almost didn’t end up eating at Alta). However, every single thing we ate and drank was absolutely amazing. We started off the night with the Alta salad, pears with blue cheese, and vegetable soup. For entrees we had the steak, chicken, and trout. This was far and away the best meal any of us had had in YEARS. The salad was amazing, but the stars of the apps were definitely the soup and the pears. The soup was rich and creamy and the pears were out of this world (my dad was so blown away that he is now looking at pear and blue cheese recipes to make at home). The steak, chicken, and trout were all perfectly cooked as well and sooooo tasty. The staff was also amazing. Our waiter was very nice and answered all our questions. The manager stopped by every table to check in while we were there and was also very kind. We felt very well attended to and couldn’t have asked for nicer hospitality. Highly highly highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions or a random night out. Will be making special trips back to Lenox just to...
