Everything that could go wrong went wrong the 1st day. Decided to treat myself for my birthday and do a mother daughter trip with check in on my special day. Ordered the birthday package, online it states the package would be in the room waiting my arrival. I had to remind them when I checked in , they totally missed it and had no plans to put it in place. Took 2 more reminders and hours later for it to arrive. They did not bring anything for us to eat the cake with, but said they would be back with plates. No return, waiting for another hour to find no one had any intention on suppling what was needed. So much for the birthday feel upon arrival.
I spent my birthday day at the front desk so many times, It really ruined my whole day. I did not get to finally relax and settle into my day until almost bed time. When I thought all and all was done, The fireplace wasn't working which is one big reason I got the room, they offered a 10% comp for the trouble. I booked a 3 night stay, I wanted the fireplace I booked for a reason. They let me chabge rooms, no mention of extra fee at all and no comp in place. I get my receipt and look it over when I get home, they actually charged me a room change fee. So I paid extra for all this trouble.
In the 2nd room, again relieved I can finally relax and with my child who is eagar to spend the evening on the TV, the TV doesn't work at all. Got to spend my birthday with the (luckily kind) maintenence man trying to figure it out and end up placing a second TV in the room after. The employees I talked directly to were nice, but all in all the vacation went south and I paid extra when I should really of been compensated. I will never return to this place. It was more trouble than it was worth.
On another front desk I encounter there was a different person at the front desk and I witnessed a horrible interaction with the customer. That customer, like I, was kind, curious and surely trying to be understanding due to covid and limited personnel and attitude. The policies in place at this hotel are you don't get what you pay for and if your not getting what you thought you were they will charge you to try to get what you booked in the 1st place. Fix the rooms or don't market what you can't offer. Upkeep is highly recommended.
Added Edit due to lack of ability to reply: I did read the room change fee wrong. it is a room charge from ordered food. I see that now. You say there is no room change fee but I heard the front desk person tell another guest that she was going to be charged a room change fee d/t not having the amenities provided that are on the registration. That customer was very upset with a lot of back and forth as well.
I do not see where there is a 10% discount on my receipt. All in all, 10% is not worth all the trouble I went through on...
Read moreI came here with my daughter and granddaughters. We were quoted a price allowing us a discount because we were return customers (even though it was many years ago when we were here). We needed a room with easy access because a granddaughter broke her foot and that necessitated crutches. They provided us with an ocean view room with fireplace and "kitchenette". An elevator was nearby. Once into our room, we inspected our bedding, finding long black hairs and food crumbs on the sheets we were to sleep on. Two women from housekeeping were outside on another balcony so we told them about the bedding. One of the ladies came to our room within 5 minutes carrying newly laundered bedding. She was very kind and apologized several times for the dirty linens. We assisted her in replacing the soiled items and then needed to request more towels and face cloths since there was only enough for two people. She was prompt in getting those for us. Later, when we wanted to watch tv or a movie, we had to call the desk again because we did not have any remotes or controls to watch the movie we rented. They sent a man from maintenance to get things to work. He replaced the dvd player, and using his own remote he was able to start the movie then left. It was when he'd left that we found the security lock for the door was broken off and we still did not have a remote to control television or dvd. Someone of our group was extra smart and packed cards and games which was our entertainment for the evening. We were later informed the tv only allowed channels 1 thru 5 for viewing. I guess management felt the ocean and sea gulls were ample entertainment for coastal visitors. Anyway, checkout is at 11:am. If you are late you will be charged an extra $50. We were there at the desk before the 11:00 a.m. checkout time. And when management asked about our stay I was happy to tell them how disappointed we were due to all the issues stated above. They were apologetic saying they would give us a discount and hope we would try them again....then they charged me MORE than what they said they would that very morning. I don't think I can recommend this place and I am sorry to say that. After all we went through I'd not want family or friend to have to deal with these things...especially if they are tired or not feeling well and all they want is to sit and relax for a bit. The best part of Surftides was the kind helpful young lady from housekeeping and the beautiful sand and surf which was close and beckons me back. The time with family was wonderful. We WILL go back but Surftides will not be where I hope to stay. There are other places who actually care about...

My husband and I stayed 5/3 through 5/5. We were celebrating our Baby Moon. The first night was great. No complaints. The second night, was awful. There was a couple next to our room and right above us fighting all night. They were under the influence of drugs or alcohol or both. They were throwing things, yelling, screaming and slamming doors. From 12:30am to 4am. Throughout the night my husband called the front desk using the room phone. He called 5 times and their phone was off the hook. He called With his cell phone 5 times throughout the night. He was nice, patient and understanding. Daniel (front desk) said that he’d call and had complaints come in and that he’d take care of it. Towards the 4th call, Daniel said that he “called” the non emergency line and it was up to the cops to show up. By 3:30am, my husband ended up calling the cops. The cops came within 15 mins. The noises from upstairs and next to us, stopped for 3 hrs and then started up at 7am till check out time, which is 10am. We barely had sleep and checked out with the front desk. We spoke to Tony, manager, and explained what happened the night before. They said that everything is logged and sorry we can’t do anything because you folks booked through a 3rd party. We completely understood and asked if we can get compensation for our Restless night sleep. He said that he’s take care of us and gave us a brochure and insisted that we give him a call directly. Thinking “take care of us” meaning that we’d get somewhat of a compensation. We walked out feeling resolved and content. The next morning, my husband called Tony. And that man quickly changed his tune. He said that he never said that he’d compensate us. He offered 25% off the next stay, which came out to $180 versus what we paid through the 3rd party which was $130. Furious, my husband didn’t agree with him “taking care of us.” And hung up. The next day we called the Room’s director and she wasn’t in till Wednesday. Wednesday, we drove 1.5 hrs to Surftides just to be told that the manager, Shone, is busy and that she will be in and out of meetings. They cover for each other. I called Thursday morning at 8:40am and was told that Shone is busy again, being in and out of meetings.
Long story short, they do not take care of their customers. They would rather us put up with rowdy under the influence of drugs or alcohol individuals who may or may not have weapons. We don’t know. We were worried about our safety and they don’t even care to call the cops or even comp us with a free...
