I’ve known for years that this skatepark is for skateboards only and the history behind it, and I’ve always respected that. The other day, I was riding my bmx bike around the park—never entered the skate park itself just doing my daily cruise around the neighborhood—and began watching people do tricks and enjoying the sunny day. Despite keeping my distance, a group of skateboarders started yelling at me, cussing me out, and even throwing their boards at me. The farther I went the more they seemed to get aggravated. They chased me out to the other side of 22nd repeatedly yelling “your still on the property” and trying to threaten me or some sort.
note for the locals I have changed my riding path to stop going along surf ave to avoid bothering you guys:)
The most surprising part was how backwards it all felt. Skateboarders have always pushed back against being overly judged—labeled as troublemakers, and told they don’t belong. But in this case, a few of them acted just like the people they’ve always stood up to: aggressive, hostile, and quick to push people out.
with all that said its still a beautiful park to spend your time at just be very mindful of...
Read moreReally great skatepark! The undercover area is nice. There’s a smaller street area with a few rails and boxes. The snake run is amazing! The whole park is built well, the only problem is that they don’t allow anyone on scooters to enjoy the park. I’m 23 years old, I skate as well as ride scooters. Very respectful of the park and people around me, yet was asked to leave. The gentleman who promoted me to leave was soft about it and not harsh. I ended up riding a bit more and leaving, but boy this would be such a great park if everyone could just accept each other and not segregate by the object somebody chooses to ride. You can have fun on anything! What’s more surprising is that the city’s parks and recreation department supports this decision and does not allow anything else besides a skateboard. It’s not right, it’s 2019, equality is here...
Read moreAs the skate boarders in this town It is not conducive to families and as there seems to be no enforcement of any sort here, often malcontents are left to enforce specific rules rules. Previously I left a poorer review based on that experience but I would like to clarify to increase awareness and thereby create more unity among the youth. If you or your kid ride anything but a skateboard, I would encourage you to try this place. The course is a bit extreme for new riders of ANYTHING, but there are several levels that allow for less than pro amount of experience. But, if your looking for an actual park with people that are interested in sharing the sport or maybe more friendly to newer riders, either direction...
