Trip at Riverwalk Resort on a scale from 1-10 is a 6. I made my reservation a month in advance. I reserved a 1 bedroom that sleeps 8 people. I never received a confirmation email until I called and asked for it, a week prior. The confirmation letter shows studio suite but I didn't reserve a studio. I did receive some helpful emails from the general manager before my arrival of what the Resort offers. That made me excited about my upcoming stay.
After searching several resorts based on photo gallery and reviews I felt this was the best option. It looked as if it had everything we needed for a successful family getaway.
Arrival Day: The view of the mountains was beautiful! The building and resort looked new and clean, with a log cabin themed "ish" (decor). We checked in and Sara was polite, friendly and professional. She made me feel welcomed. Once I saw my 1 bedroom suite that slept 8 people I thought there was a mistake. It was 2 conjoined rooms. Very small. One had a full kitchen which we wanted to cook a feast one of the nights at the resort. A sleeper sofa and a Murphy bed (which pulls out of the wall) A fireplace, that didn't turn on and a big screen TV. A bar stool island that seated 2 people, and a small round table that only seated 2. It was very cramped. We were not able to eat together as a family at the dining room table (the is important for us). Beautiful balcony, One queen bed and a sleeper sofa which was not what I expected. No tub for my little one only stand up showers and no shelves to put soap on. I wish the description of the rooms were more detailed, more specific and include measurements/size. I would have booked a 2 or 3 bedroom suite, something definitely bigger and spacious like the pictures showed online. The pictures online should be labeled and compare the difference of each. The description of the room states "spacious living room is the ideal gathering place." There was nothing spacious about it at all. The attached room had another small round table for 2 so only 6 of us could eat comfortably.
La Vista restaurant had plenty of space for us to enjoy meals together. The food was good and the staff was awesome! I would just recommend being more punctual with opening for breakfast and maybe open a little earlier than 8am.
After checking the rooms. I went downstairs and asked for a bigger room but there was not much availability without paying an extra $90 a night for the same space. We had to make do. I would of gladly paid extra for a bigger room and actual queen size and king size beds not sleepers ( not comfortable). I wish the manager would have come out of the back to speak with me but he/she did not. I was pretty disappointed about the room and didn't think the price fit the rooms I had.
Spa: The spa was just what everyone needed! Mother had a facial that was so refreshing and relaxing. My mom said her skin was so soft even days after. My sister and daughter enjoyed foot scrubs with complimentary drinks. Super relaxing! The staff were friendly and professional.
Pool/Jacuzzi: indoor and outdoor heated pool will be a top memory and we took the best photos!
Arcade: We enjoyed air hockey very much! The foose ball didn't work. We put extra money hoping it worked but didn't. The toy claw machine was a major rip off. My little one wanted a fluffy so bad. No grip! The other prize machines should be easy to win for the fun of it. Every one should be a winner. Parents already spend so much in there for their children to have a good time! We had a good time minus the meltdown at the end by my 4 year old over a fluffy.
Check out: No one available to help with the luggage cart. I called the front desk and they said they don't offer that.

Read moreSupposed to be a non smoking resort (except for designated smoking areas which do not include balconies), except we’ve been unable to even open our balcony door or use the balcony because of enormous amounts of cigarette smoke from people smoking on their balconies.||Parking is also a big problem because of the restaurants … parking has completely full from about 5:30-9pm on weekend evenings, so you cannot leave your parking space or you won’t have one when you return. They need more designated parking for the resident patrons which restaurant guests cannot access at risk of towing. ||Noise is over the top — screaming, running children way too much. Despite the price, apparently the sort of people who come here believe their children don’t require any supervision of any kind.. Walls are paper thin. Every time our neighbors opened or shut a door the bed moved. Why have multiple pools if unobserved children are allowed to run rampant in all of them? ||The WiFi is shockingly bad — constantly going out on our devices (there clearly are not enough repeaters). Which, given this mountain valley has almost no cell coverage, is a serious issue not a mere inconvenience. ||The batteries in the remotes are near dead OR the remotes are broken — unclear. We had to manually turn off the TV in the living room, struggled to change channels or adjust volume. The remote for the electric fireplace was nonfunctional. ||The water pressure in the shower is lousy. Can’t begin to imagine showering here in winter. You’d freeze. ||La Vista, the onsite Italian restaurant, is very understaffed and the staff needs more training. A woman sat at the check in desk for the restaurant, seemingly doing nothing, while we waited about ten minutes to be seated for our reserved time (not sure what her role was, and I’m sure it wasn’t to seat people, but it just looks bad to keep people waiting while a staff person is sitting around). Our server was very sweet but not well trained — we ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and she tried to CUT THE CAGE (muselet) off the cork with a knife instead of unwinding / pulling (we had to stop her before she hurt herself and teach her how to open a sparkling bottle… she said “well every bottle is different,” but it was clear she had never opened a bottle of sparkling/champagne before, as they basically all work the same unless they happen to have an agrafe (which is admittedly VERY hard to get open but unlikely to be on any bottle of this wine list of exclusively mass produced wines)!!). It took us over 30 minutes to get our check and get out after declining dessert — a problem that was NOT A PROBLEM for other tables (a couple was seated, ate, had dessert, paid, and left while we waited for our check), just ours (she seemed to have too many tables but was very sweet). There were also several people who walked around in the grounds below the restaurant smoking (not a smoking area), meaning we all got to smell it while eating, and the staff was oblivious.||The one bedroom room layout was very well done, that’s about the only positive thing I have to say about the resort, sadly.||Definitely won’t be back. Shocked at all the positive reviews...

Insult to injury — checking out on Labor Day (presumably a very busy check out day), only one person working the desk in the 10 minutes prior to checkout time… waited behind five people needing receipts just to hand over keys.
Also, someone was mopping the whole first floor of the east wing (including exits) the 10 minutes prior to checkout time — seems like that should maybe wait until lots of people won’t be exiting to check out with luggage and trying not to slip?
