Let me preface this by saying I'm a small business owner myself and I know how detrimental a bad review can be for a small business...but I have never in my life been treated the way the Wallflower manager treated me.
I also emailed this to their team first to see if we would even get an apology but it has been 4 days now and not a peep.
tl;dr this restaurant doesn't care at all about their loyal customers. Absolutely terrible, terrible customer service.
On Friday Feb 12th I made a reservation for 3 people on RESY for Saturday Feb 13th at 5:45 pm I had meant to make it for 6 people as I was hoping to take some friends new to LA. I have frequented this restaurant on countless occasions and recommended it to several people.
On Saturday when I checked the RESY at 2:44 pm I immediately called the restaurant and left a voicemail to see if there was anything we could do to extend the reservation. At 4:53 pm, the kind hostess called me back and let me know there was no way they could accommodate 6 people at 5:45 pm or at anytime in the night since the restaurant was actually overbooked. I even asked for a later reservation and she said it wasn’t possible but that we would still be charged $35 per person for the cancellation. I was confused why I would be charged when the restaurant was overbooked and couldn’t take us at all but I said ok and left it at that.
Then my friend, who is also a small business owner in the restaurant industry and has been working tirelessly to keep her own business afloat, called the hostess at 4:59 just to see if there was an flexibility in taking us later or for not charging us the $35 since they couldn’t accommodate 6 of us as we really wanted to come in for the food. The hostess said unfortunately it was out of her hands but she would have the manager call.
At this point, we just accepted the fact that we would be charged and left it at that.
At 6:55 pm I received a phone call from the manager, who by his tone I can guarantee had already written me off as a rude or not an understanding customer. He immediately claimed I was being inconsiderate and was causing issues for small businesses (again, note, I am a small business owner).
Instead of offering alternatives like splitting the table up into two tables of 3, coming at a later time (which I checked and reservations HAD opened up for a later time in the evening), saying we could use the credit to hold a table next time. OR even explaining that although they were overbooked, he couldn’t fill that particular time slot so it would have been a loss for the business I would have HAPPILY, very very happily paid the fee to support this business. But instead, the manager chose the route of being rude, inconsiderate, and incredibly offensive to a point where he yelled “DONT BOTHER COMING BACK” and hanging up.
I’ve never, ever been spoken to this way and am deeply offended and disappointed to be receiving a call like that from a restaurant that I have been a fan of.
I would have gladly accepted any workaround to the fee since the restaurant was “completely overbooked” and couldn’t accommodate our party that would have been willing to sit separately, come later, or book for another time. But instead was faced with an incredibly...
Read moreGot asked to leave while eating! Went to this spot a couple months ago and was very impressed. Came back here tonight and got a terrible service. There were multiple strikes here that were unforgivable. Husband booked seats for 3. My friend and I went in first while he was looking for parking. We came in on time at 6:30pm. The front lady couldn't find my husband name in the reservation. We showed her our invites from resy. She told us that that's not a confirmation. She said she could seat us in the back. Her demeanor was not very pleasant, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. We were seated in a small table for 2 and was given an extra chair. My husband came in and I told him to talk to the front lady. For some reason she found our reservation. We were moved to the outdoor seating. After we were seated, nobody came to check on us for 15 minutes. Then came Andrew. Andrew our server was amazing. We orders drinks and appetizers. He didn't rush us, instead he told us to take our time while waiting for our drinks. We were having a good time, ordered some more drinks and our main courses. While finishing our fish and grilled chicken, the front lady came in to our table and told us that there's another group waiting for our table and she will bring our check. Excuse me? We were still eating and having our drinks. She didn't asked whether we were done or anything. It was very rude to get kicked out while eating. I never experience anything like this. We were waiting for our server to come back to order dessert, not anymore obviously. I felt so wronged. We ordered $200plus worth of food. There were other tables who came before us and didn't get asked to leave. We tried very hard not to think it was because of our ethnicity. I'm Indonesian in Indonesian restaurant. I invited my International friend to share the culture and ethnic food. This front lady never once apologized, instead she told me that we should have known there's a 1.5hour time limit. We were never informed about this rule. And I bet there's a table manner to talk to us nicely. This front lady is not a people person, I wonder why she's been put there to greet people. It was Andrew who kept apologizing on her behalf, he took out the whole fish from our check. While waiting for our check, there was a RAT crossing the wall, luckily we didn't experience that during our meal. I read the other one star reviews mentioning about the time limit, the ill manner of staff, and they got kicked out. I can't believe that this is a reoccurring issue!! I thought it was the first time it happened, and I think once was too much. I will not recommend this place, it left a very...
Read moreIncredibly amateur, downright terrible customer service. Full disclosure: I have not eaten at this restaurant so this is not a food/atmosphere review.
I wanted to try this restaurant when I visit LA in a couple of days so I went on Resy to make a reservation. Out of my own stupidity and clumsiness, I made the reservation on a wrong date and time, which was within 24 hours so I couldn’t change it online. No problem, I figured I’d call them and change it. But even though I called them 20+ times during their business hours, and left them two voicemails, there was no answer or no return from the restaurant.
I took the extra step, which I totally didn’t have to, by calling a friend of mine living in LA and having them drive out to the restaurant to fix the issue. When he asked in person, they changed the reservation to Wednesday. However they said they might still charge the $35 per person cancellation fee even though its clearly an accident which we are taking extra measures to fix and not even asking to cancel the reservation.
Anyways, now, a day later, they have completely cancelled my reservation on Wednesday for some reason. Unsurprisingly I cannot reach them to ask why even though I called 10+ times.
I was actually very curious about this place because a lot of my friends like their food. No way I’m ever stepping in this restaurant after this debacle though and it looks like they don’t want...
