We stayed at the Seelbach hotel from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. 4 adults in a double bed room. One guest arrived at 4pm Friday to the room being warm. After the remaining 2 guests and myself arrived shortly after midnight, we came to the conclusion the AC just was not working. So at 1am, we needed to move rooms. We were moved to a Queen suite that we made work with the amount of guests we had staying and were happy with the accommodations. The next night around 6pm, one guest had gone to the room to nap while the rest of us enjoyed the bar in the lobby. I received a call from said guest saying the ceiling was leaking. The engineer swiftly came to our room and discovered the leak was coming from the roof and would not be able to be fixed while we were staying. We were once again given a new room. This was frustrating as we had been there a short time and were trying to get ready to go out for the night and now had to pack and move our belongings again. We were moved to the same layout, different floor. Additionally, a few instances, our key cards stopped working and we would be locked out of the rooms. We did have digital keys through the Hilton app that would work, but the key cards generally did not. Now, I went through that explanation to get to this part. It was frustrating to have to move rooms multiple times, it was frustrating to be there for such a short time and encounter problems like this.
BUT, the positive things:
The hotel itself is BEAUTIFUL. The decor, historic charm and classy atmosphere were very inviting. The restaurant and bar on site were also beautiful and had great selections for food and drink. What made our stay however, was the staff. I voiced my frustrations and they listened. They jumped to action when we needed and we didn't have to wait around wasting time once we encountered these problems. Our room changes were quick, thanks to the front desk staff- Brantley was BEYOND amazing the whole weekend and helped make our stay a good one despite the issues; another gentleman [I do apologize as I think his name was Derrick but I am unsure] was very quick to help and very understanding to our frustrations as well, Aiden and Nick in valet were so very helpful helping us load our things and move them to the next room and the engineer who came to our room to investigate the ceiling leak Saturday night (I did not have his name either, so I apologize) was there before I could even blink and was very kind and understanding to my frustrated nature. Management took care of us and made us feel that our concerns were also their concern and worked to rectify the situation above and beyond before I even asked for any sort of compensation. Despite the issues with the rooms, I would stay here again due to the location, architectural charm and the...
Read moreI feel a little conflicted with choosing how many stars to give the Seelbach as it was great in many aspects, but it was lackluster in so many other ways.
When walking in, the hotel is quite attractive and indicative of the Era it represents. The front desk staff weren't exactly talkative, but they got the job done quickly and efficiently.
Prior to our stay, I made arrangements via phone and email to have a $200 bottle of bourbon waiting in our room as a surprise to my husband. To my disappointment, it was not in the room upon our arrival even though we arrived later than anticipated. My husband was still delighted by the gesture, but after a 13 hour drive it was frustrating to have to make excuses to my spouse then go back to the main floor to have it brought up.
As a side note, one of the managers had suggested the bourbon and it was phenomenal!! Also, the gentleman that brought it up was beyond friendly and personable.
I don't understand the complaints on the room sizes. We found our room to be quite adequate and loved the closet. We stayed 5 days and found that to be extremely helpful with keeping our room organized and clutter free! A refrigerator would have been nice, but it didn't ruin the visit. However, the comforter was quite dingy and despite asking at our reservation and check in for extra towels/Fresh towels daily I still had to request them every single day. Also, the drain in the shower is extremely slow to drain.
The coffee is the room was absolutely undrinkable and finding curdled creamer was not the surprise I was anticipating. The Seelbach bar was less than stellar- with mediocre food, disappointing service, and absolutely ridiculous hours. We booked this location because not only was it a historic building, but we were under the impression that there was a restaurant (and Starbucks) on site. We also thought the bar would be open with far more hours, which was a massive let down when we just wanted to get out of our rooms and grab a drink or mingle with others.
The highlight of our entire stay was taking the tour with Larry and having the opportunity to speak with him for awhile. He is such an amazing wealth of knowledge and a joy to speak with. We could have spoke with him for hours if we didn't have reservations for dinner.
The Seelbach has terrific potential, but I cannot say that we would stay here again. While we generally try to book historic hotels, this one just hugely missed the mark. For what is considered a higher end hotel, too many things were missing- especially service, unfortunately. We left less than impressed. Our hotel was the only disappointment in the entire excursion...
Read moreI always come to Louisville with my ballet company, on tour has been coming since 2008. I had stayed in many places and at The Seelbach Hilton before. But on Nov 3rd at the checking I had the worst experience by the front desk supervisor. I’m not sure what her name is, but she was working around 4pm. Our ballet company booked a room for 2 days. I checked in with the group got to my room and didn’t like it, windows were dirty and a horrible noise coming from the next door room, plus there were no light. I came back downstairs and asked, if I could change the room, and she said they were booked. She didn’t even checked in the computer. Just simply said that. She said come tomorrow maybe we will have availability. I left and felt her very rude, I came back again with friend he asked another front desk lady we explained to her. I wanted to change rooms, with a second as we are explaining, the same lady we’ve spoke previously comes across the room and simply says: I already spoke to them! At this point I believe it’s very annoying, I checked hotel website and there’s plenty of rooms. Meaning if I wanted to book a new room I could, because they were available, and not all rooms were booked as she stated before. So my question was why, just not change the room? It’s so simple! I asked my tour manager (she’s white) to come down and help. She shows up asked to change the room, a different lady in the front desk helps and gets me a new room( problem solved in 5min) no one treated her with rudeness, one of the staff members came to her room, help her switch rooms previously brought her keys personally. I’m thinking they just told me they didn’t had a room, I mention to my tour manager you just had yours changed it! I’m so confused. In the mean time the whole team at the front desk already KNEW! I wanted to change room. I was there for 30min trying to get a new room. I felt very disrespected and clearly this was racism and it’s so disappointing! We are in 2023 staff members in hospitality has to do better. It’s unacceptable!
I changed the room come downstairs to give the old key to the front desk lady and my friend says we were able to change the room and she answers with sarcasm: Super! Clearly no apologies at all. I will never stay here again. I do not support a racist hotel or racist...
