Mi Cocina on Fourth is a great place for lunch if you work on Fourth street. From where I work it's about a 3 minute walk to great Mexican food.
This is a place that really knows how to handle its lunch crowd. They're well-staffed and prepped up, having carafes of water, baskets of chips, and salsa at-the-ready for near-immediate placement once you sit at your table. (there were a lot of dashes in once sentence).
The décor is colorful, authentic, and exactly what you expect for a Mexican eatery. A few television screens dot the landscape with a variety of different channels playing. Mi Cocina on Fourth is much larger than it looks from the outside, and the restrooms are allllll the way in the back.
There menu is pretty extensive, and the lunch menu sports some pretty inexpensive lunch combos, but the full menu is available all day. The staff is always hustling, and they turn the orders around pretty quickly. My list visit was a group of six, and in less than 10 minutes we were eating our meals.
I've never had a problem with the food I've ordered, and the service has always been friendly, attentive, and efficient.
If there's one downfall to Mi Cocina, I'd have to say it's the checkout process. Checkout is done at the register by the door. Personally, I prefer checking out through my server. I'm sure doing it this way helps keep the wait and food delivery staff focused on their tasks, so I can't say that's...
Read moreAt first, we did not know if Mike Cocina should be trusted seeing how we are in Kentucky, which is not known for their Mexican food, but we were pleasantly surprised.
First, the location is just outside of 4th Street Live, which is a great and fun area. Second, their prices aren't bad at all; especially for a downtown restaurant. One of the first things you notice is the large bar with a huge selection of wine, a nice selection of liquor and beer, and a small draft section. The restaurant also has a lot of space, which could be great for large groups.
We we're greeted as we walked through the door and immediately sat at our table. Our server came quickly and took our drink orders. Nicole ordered a sweet tea (like normal) and I ordered a strawberry daquiri (one of my favorites). We we're also given free chips and two salsas. I don't think the salsa was anything special, but Nicole enjoyed it. One was pretty much just tomato sauce, but the other definitely had more flavor.
Nicole ordered their tacos al pastor and I ordered their carne asada steak. We started with their appetizer of queso with chorizo. The appetizer was very tasty.
Their carne asada was only okay, but their tacos al pastor was pretty dang good. Needless to say, we took all of our leftovers home with us. If you're looking for Mexican food, you should definitely check...
Read moreDO NOT GO HERE!! Work near this location on fourth st...myself & coworkers had been there several times. i placed an order for a $14 burrito requesting no tomatoe, no lettuce, no nacho sauce but to replace it with shredded cheese. When i got there to pick it up-before tip my total was $17.83 -i didnt think it was correct but didnt fuss and added $2 tip to the bill. After being handed my food and discovering it was wrong-not only did the not make a fresh one (they just opened the burrito and removed SOME of the tomatoes-thank god im not allergic!) they can back and said the charge for shredded cheese was an extra $4! so im stuck paying over $20 for 1 burrito!!! A REPEAT CUSTOMER for past year! I called when back to my office and spoke to the male manager (Raul) i believe who expressed his apologize and promised a refund. I have went and called now several times and the cashier refuses to honor this or to call him. When i call they tell me they dont know when he works. I normally would not stress this but it is the absolute worst service of my life! AND I DIDNT EVEN GET TO EAT THE $20 BURRITO BECAUSE IT WAS FULL OF JUICE AND MUSHY LIKE BABY FOOD!! all the stuff in the pic is what i scrapped out of the soggy burrito! i had...
