I've stayed at Snyder's dozens of times over the course of decades. It was pretty nice for a while, then it was really run down for a while. I actually stayed other places because it was gross and seemed way too expensive for its overall quality. THEN, voila, it got a face lift (which I believe is ongoing). ||My boyfriend and I stayed at the renovated Snyder's last year in 2024 (in the south building with the enclosed patios), and it was pretty nice (3.5/5 overall). We went back again this year, and we were not impressed at all. The biggest issue was that our room never got cleaned, despite being told two mornings in a row by the front desk that it would be. We returned late afternoon one day, and nothing had been touched. I went to the office to ask whether rooms were still being cleaned and was told they were done for the day. The clerk gave me some fresh towels, apologized that they forgot us and assured me we would be cleaned the next day. Only we weren't . . . Someone did visit the room to leave fresh towels, but nothing else was done. The bed was unmade when we returned, and our coffee pods hadn't been replenished. When we checked out the next morning, we weren't even asked how our stay had been. ||Aside from the poor service (which is what prompted me to write this review), there were some odd features of our room (Room 145) that were dissatisfying. First, the TV set was probably only 16" (no kidding) and barely visible from the king sized bed across the room. We didn't go on vacation to watch TV so that, in itself, was more humorous than anything else. However, TVs are not expensive, and a much larger one is expected as a standard feature in even a 3-star motel these days. ||On a slightly more disturbing note, there was a window adjacent to the door to our room that had no curtain on it. Brackets on the wall seemed to indicate that a curtain had hung there once, but it was gone. This was a problem because the sink/vanity and mirror just outside the bathroom were immediately inside the front door. (If you step out of the bathroom with few to no clothes on, anyone walking by can see you!) We hung a towel up after discovering this on the second morning of our stay. It was definitely a huge privacy and safety issue. Additionally, there was no towel bar by the bathroom sink. Holes in the wall suggested it had been torn out and not replaced. Paint touch up was also badly needed in some places around the bathroom sink and bar sink. ||The GOOD things about Snyder's are as follows:|* LOCATION! Hard to beat. . .|* The outdoor pool is nice to have (though there was a lot of sand in the bottom and algae growing along the sides).|* The updated rooms are much better than the previous decor.|* The balconies are spacious and have a great view of the marina.|* Our room was spacious and had a couch (though it faced opposite the TV) and a nice wet bar area with cupboards and a fridge that was larger than most hotel rooms (even had a freezer that was adequately sized).|* The outdoor landscaping is very pretty. The grass is nicely maintained, and the flowers growing in pots around the property were beautiful. ||The BAD things about Snyder's, in summary, are as follows:|* The updated rooms still feel incomplete and are missing some things.|* The poor service with no housekeeping (even when promised) was disappointing. |* The price seems very high for the experience we had. We paid $281.94/night for our king balcony room, including taxes. I've stayed in nicer motels in Ludington that were much less expensive. |* There is no continental breakfast provided. The vouchers we were given last year for breakfast at House of Flavors were no...
Read moreIn all of my travels, this is the first time I have left an unfavorable review. I have traveled more than the average person covering the entire United States and outside of the country. I have never been so disappointed in a hotel. My family is in Ludington multiple times a year, but we stay with my husband's family. Last weekend, we attended my mother in law's surprise birthday. In order to surprise her we stayed at Snyder's. We should have never assumed, but we thought given the high cost and location this would be an awesome experience. Sadly, that wasn't the case. We called ahead for early check-in at 1:00pm. Once we got to the hotel, they said we couldn't check-in until 3:00. So we walked over to the break wall and played mini Golf to pass the time. We couldn't go too much out into the city as we didn't want to risk ruining the surprise. We had 4 other families that booked with us. They all had a similar experience and none of us will ever return nor will we recommend it to others. Once we got into our rooms, all the tubs were filthy. Ours had spiders, and other bugs, dirt, grime all over the shower doors and mildew in the shower corners. It was as if it had not been cleaned in weeks. There was hair on the floor and the sink had not been cleaned either. One of the families that stayed there with us had to clean the tub herself because she had her toddler with her and he needed a wash. Our room smelled very musty, there was sand on the floor near the bed, the microwave had prints on it and food still caked on. I think the bed was the only thing that seemed to have been cleaned. We did not sleep well, the air conditioner was super loud, and every 15 minutes it roared on. We tried raising the temp in hopes it would decrease the time between it would turn on, but that didn't seem to help. We took the kids to the pool, the water was cold so they didn't stay in too long. When we checked out, the gentleman at the desk couldn't print out the bill because he couldn't find our reservation. We were just so frustrated and disappointed with the whole experience. The only positive thing about this place is the view of the lake. However, it is NOT worth what you're paying for it. We only...
Read morePlease keep in mind that I review hotels, based only on the hotel generally, not the surrounding area.||After having a minor dispute over the booking, the rest of my vacation was nice. Fourth of July, room 124....I simply cannot give the hotel 5 stars. This room is "outdated"; there are holes in the walls from previously mounted items (pictures, toilet paper holder, etc..); the bathroom is "dirty", (behind the door); the bathroom door is warped and "buckled", with the door closed. The room needs some spackling repairs and painting. The floors are scratched up and the molding around the walls is gapped and doesn't meet with flooring. The air conditioner is loud and must be on constantly to hold a good temperature. I just had feelings of "uncleanliness" in this room. The hotel does not offer AARP or Disabled Veteran discounts. There is no breakfast or snacks. I felt generally that this room was overpriced ($350 per night), regardless of what the occasion was. Rooms should have set prices determined by their size and quality, not by who books their reservation first.|*However, the people are nice and kind!!. *Special mention to the Maintenance guy that dressed the part of an older era. Nice to see him in the parade, riding an old bicycle, then back to work. The pool was enjoyable and warm yet cool. The employees worked hard to make people happy, giving hotel guests chairs and gifts for the parade and fireworks show. |Visitors should be aware that "economy" and "double queen" rooms are of the older style. King rooms and Suites are remodeled and much. much nicer. The hotel has the great advantage of being the only hotel in Ludington that is close to the water, lighthouse, and ferry ships. It's also a big plus that the patios are spacious. I'm rating it overall as 4 stars, for the...
