This Super 8 is dirty from the moment you touch the door handle to check in. This hotel ranks right next to the other dump hotel I accidentally booked in another major city which had a sign at the front desk that said, “No refunds after 15 minutes”. My husband commented many times how this Super 8 by Wyndham Mackinaw City/Beachfront Area hotel needs to be demolished; in my opinion, it is an embarrassment to the Wyndham name. The hotel’s nice online pictures do not correctly depict the rooms we or our friends stayed in.
The clerk at check-in (Sandra?) is the ONLY good thing about this place in my opinion. She was courteous, polite, kind, and very helpful. The clerk at check-out…she was a different story. She ranks up there with my review…bad. When my husband and I walked past the office (window was open) to get our morning coffee across the street, we heard her yelling at someone or something. At checkout (same morning as the yelling), she was cranky, didn’t want to give me a receipt, and grumpily said, “Didn’t you get one when you checked in?”.
Our room was filthy and smelled musty; it doesn’t appear to have ever been updated and it seemed that the only cleaning the room had ever seen was a change of bedsheets and bath towels. The carpet was gross, looked like it had never been shampooed, was in major need of replacing, and was absolutely disgusting. When one of my friends (who stayed in another room) asked about daily housekeeping, she was told there wasn’t any, and if housekeeping was requested, it would be at an additional charge. At one point my bed pillow fell on the floor in the “never vacuumed” corner by the bed, and I thought, “That’s the last time I’ll touch that pillow.”
The small apartment-sized refrigerator had seen better days and appeared to be one foot in the grave; the freezer was completely iced over.
The handle of the complimentary (ha ha) hairdryer was disgustingly dirty.
When I first walked onto the balcony, I saw the grossly stained/never been cleaned carpet and looked down at the cheap plastic balcony chairs and about lost my lunch…there on the chair was a clear plastic cup with brown liquid and was filled to the brim with used cigarette butts.
The beach was never cleaned or groomed and had cheap plastic chairs and trash, not the nice lounge chairs you see in this hotel’s online advertisement. When our group walked to the beach, we noticed a huge hollowed-out area under the hotel’s boardwalk; many of us commented how vagrants probably find shelter there.
There were bugs and spider webs everywhere, including in the doorways, stairways, window wells, and screens.
Regarding the pool…I wouldn’t recommend my worst enemy swim in it. The pool area was dirty and its windows were dirty/cloudy. The pool’s water had no movement (no filtration system seemed to be running), there was no chlorine smell (which indicated to me that chlorine was not in use), and there was a film of unknown substance on top of the water.
I don’t know how this hotel can advertise a breakfast because there was none in my opinion. The offered “breakfast” was a very small, narrow granola bar, coffee and tea; instead we went across the street to the little yoga/coffee shop for great service, pastries, smoothies, coffee, and tea.
All in all, if you are considering booking this hotel…I suggest you keep looking. If I could give this hotel a negative rating, I would because it is definitely not deserving...
Read moreI was disappointed by this hotel, not only for the lack customer service but for the lack of care and up keep they described both on Google and on their website. When we checked in, there were 3 women standing around talking. Took them 3 minutes to acknowledge me. When she asked for my information to proceed with charges, she never suggested any types of extras that they had or even to point me in the direction where the Maps by the wall were they had coupons for the outlet place located down the strip. Mentioned breakfast times and where and that was it. When we went into our room (beachside location $300). We took my mom, a bucket list of hers, figured she would enjoy being beachside. Couldn't get the sliding glass door open and when we did, we couldn't get the screen door to open. I put coconut oil to help it slide open so my mom wouldn't have issues. Beds are not queens, they were fulls!! The glass wasn't clean, the outside had weeds growing up thru the wood on the balcony. Now, normally we would tolerate certain things at a hotel, I mean you can't make everyone happy but it got worse. After checking in, dropping luggage off, we went shopping, ate, looked around till about 9pm, stopped back at the front desk to ask for another room and they were fully booked so we went to bed, woke up to a beautiful sunrise. Not a total loss but started to get into the bathroom and I had to sponge bath myself because there was no way in h**l I would let that shower head run off with water (see pictures). Toliet was dirty around the rim by the floor (roll my eyes with disgust).. so we checked for bed bugs, no joke!! They even had nails in the wall that were hanging out half way!! So we got dressed, packed and left as soon as we could. I took pictures, so please enjoy them as they do not look like anything they advertise! I even called customer service to be told that someone would be getting back to us 24 to 72 hours.. nadda, nothing.. for almost $300 a night you would think they would offer a place where people would leave good welcoming comments in hope it would bring in more enthusiasts to...
Read moreDISGUSTING. The front desk woman is SO RUDE. We paid over $700 for two nights here. We were trapped into it or we would’ve gladly went somewhere else but we had no other option.
Rotting patio floors to where I didn’t feel secure with myself or my daughter even stepping out onto it.
Cob webs and spider eggs everywhere.
Black mold in the bathroom.
Floors were sticky with a film on them.
Parking lot floods to where you can’t even walk through it, major puddles.
No phone to even call the front desk. Just a power strip and a dirty alarm clock on the night stand.
The sliding patio door fell off and when I called the front desk because I couldn’t get it on the track and didn’t want to be billed for it the woman rudely asked me “So are you just calling to tell me or do you actually want me to send someone up?” She sent a man with a backpack and a bad attitude up. He threw it on without even trying to speak to me then stormed out like I was the biggest inconvenience. Luckily I was smart enough to have my daughter record the interaction because the woman was so rude over the phone. They’re denying I even called to complain evidently.
On the phone with super 8 now and they’re saying that they’ve contacted the hotel directly. The hotel is saying I never made a complaint or anything even about the door. They’re wanting to connect me to the hotel and I am refusing, I just want to speak with customer service. That woman treated me SO badly and she was the manager. I’m not going to argue with these people. The customer service representative just went to transfer me to another representative and the line disconnected.
If you even look at Expedia and other sites with reviews you’ll notice other people posting pictures of the black rot in the bathroom as well. I dunno how this place is even able to be rented out.
Run from this place at all costs. Scam and they do not maintain...
