There was good and bad about my recent stay (3/15-3/19). Service was very bad, or excellent, depending on whose shift it was. The afternoon/evening person at the front desk (Ryan) was outstanding. I will discuss him later in this review. The morning front desk person (Michelle? She worked on the mornings of 3/17 and 3/18) was terrible to interact with.||Due to snowy weather on 3/17, I did not ski that day, and I wanted to see about extending my stay by one additional night. I had originally made my reservation via the AAA website, and when I asked Michelle if I could just extend at the same rate, she said "no... you need to make a reservation for a multiple-day stay to get the AAA rate." (Not true.) Then I asked if I could stay in my room one more night, or otherwise change rooms for one night if there were any available. She said that the hotel was sold out and no rooms were available. (On a mid-weeknight?!) So, I went back to my room, got on my phone (to the AAA website) and I was able to see three rooms available (different bed arrangements, but available) and so I made a one-night reservation (for two queen beds, instead of the single king room which I had). From my knowledge of "hotel shift hours", I then waited until after 3pm when someone else was working... and luckily it was Ryan (who also originally checked me in on my first night there). I explained to him the situation, and at that moment, he said that I was going to need to "check out" of my current room and then wait until after 3pm (possibly 2pm) before going to my new upcoming room the next night. He suggested that I either put my contents in my car for the day (while I was skiing), or that I could keep my bags in the lobby if I wanted (and I was going to choose to do the former).||I went off to dinner later, and while I was eating, I received a phone call from Ryan... He had called to tell me that he had done some "shifting around" of some of the rooms on the computer, and that he was able to keep me in my current room (so that I wouldn't need to remove my contents the next day). That was amazing for him to do! I hadn't really asked him to do that, but Ryan took it upon himself to try to help me out! I thanked him very much for that.||The next morning (for my original check out on 3/18), I visited the front desk to formally "check out", before "checking in" to my second reservation for that extra night. I saw Michelle again, and she was her same unpleasant self from the day before. I asked her if she remembered me from the day before (when she told me that there were no available rooms), and she very coldly said that she did remember me. I explained what Ryan had done to help me, and then she proceeded to check me out and in. I had to pry everything out of her, including asking for a new parking pass for the additional night. She just came across as so disinterested in help me... as if I was an annoyance to her. (And why did she lie to me about the room availability? I had asked her about ANY available rooms... even one with two beds--even though I was visiting alone--and she said "no, nothing was available.")||As for my room (Room 117, if I remember correctly), the bathtub was a little thrashed, but the room was otherwise clean. I've frequently stayed here when I make my "annual" visit to Mammoth, and there's a decent chance I stay here again. I just wish all of the front desk employees were more like Ryan, and less like Michelle. (At least Ryan is the one most people deal with when they are checking into the hotel, and that is probably the employee most people remember...
Read moreWe stay here about once a month as we have felt it is the best "Bang for Your Buck" in Mammoth Lakes. The property continues to look good and the breakfasts are excellent. This four day stay we had some issues that, while the staff successfully responded, the issues were disconcerting. First, on one evening, the jacuzzi jets would not come on. The next day, the manager got most of the jets working, but he noted they will need to replace the mechanism that is wearing out. Then, the following day, we were out of the room from 9AM to 2PM. When we returned, the room had yet to be serviced. (The day before we had the same issue, but the housekeeper did the room as soon as we asked). The housekeepers were on the floor, and I requested the room be done and I would be in the breakfast area working on my computer. 30 minutes later, I returned to the room and it was still not done, and no one was around. The issue became further exasperating when after going to the desk and being told it would be done, nothing was down for another 30 minutes. Another inquiry was met with "the staff are on their lunch break". The staff happened to walk by, and the desk clerk mentioned our request. They all laughed, and apparently then told the clerk that we had our "Do Not Disturb" sign out...our room did not have such a sign even available. We had become angry and decided we would "refresh"the room ourselves when a housekeeper apparently interrupted her lunch to do our room. At the end of our stay, we did not leave our customary gratuity we usually leave to show our appreciation for the excellent service. The final issue was, that evening, we returned from dinner to find our room cold and the heater being unresponsive. The desk person came up and tried to get it going but was unsuccessful. She tried calling someone to assist her but after an hour had gotten no response. She agreed to give us another room to sleep in which happened to be the one next door, so it worked out. Still, it seems they should have had someone available to assist her. We will probably stay here again, but another stay with issues such as these and we will start looking for alternatives for our trips to...
Read moreI have stayed in several Choice properties across the western US and this was the worst. This hotel needs a lot of repair and updating. The bathroom shower and toilet area was very used and abused looking. The tub/shower had stains and a hole in the tub. The shower curtain was stained and the linens- towels and bedding were stained and poor quality. The atmosphere of the room was very uncomfortable from the non- existence of air conditioning in the entire building to the musty smell.
This was a 2 night stay and the first night we were kept awake from the fire and police activity going on due to a water leak on our floor which almost reached our room; over half the rooms on our floor were flooded, and the water had to be turned off for a little while. We were told to stay in our room and the manager would be contacting us; however neither the manager nor the hotel staff contacted us before or after. The water was came back on but the hot water was not available for a morning shower, and the front desk said that they hoped it would be back on soon. The breakfast was poor, and the second morning at 8 a.m. with about 20 people trying to get some food there was 6 breakfast sausages, make your own waffles and that's it...no coffee, hot water, milk, orange juice, and the bread container that usually holds bagels, muffins and toast was bare.
Upon checking out Saturday morning we were told that refunds, comps and points compensation were offered to guest on our floor for the inconvenience of the Thursday's night water issues but they were only offering any kind of refund on Friday, since it was now Saturday we were out of luck, but the front desk staff would let the manager know that I had asked.
I contact Choice Hotels directly when I got home and they were helpful and offered apologies for the staff's practices at this hotel and offered a small incentive that will have me continuing to use a Choice hotel. Thank you Choice Hotel customer service!! The customer service rep. was kind and listened to...
