We are about to go on a return trip to Snowshoe in Feb. 2009 after the great time we had last season. We all love skiing/snowboarding and Snowshoe is our best option within driving distance.||I will give you what I have found to be the best (cheapest) way to plan a trip to Snowshoe:||||Lodging-||I checked with the resort for lodging options for our group of 10. The choices are limited and they will do a package deal with lift tickets for less than buying separately, but there are better options. We booked through http://snowshoerentals.com in one of their Logger's Run townhomes. It is a five bedroom/ two bath unit that was ski in/ski out. The great thing was that the unit was not booked the night before, so we were able to check-in at the office located at the base of the mountain the first morning at 9am! They offered much better rates than going through the mountain.||||Lift Tickets-||A couple of options are available here. Adult tickets at the mountain are $75/day. The tickets they sell are good for any day of the season, so they can be bought in advance. One option this year is getting tickets through Costco. The sell them in quanities of 2 for $112/pair. We did this for the upcoming trip and got enough for everyone on the same order to save on shipping. They do charge a small fee if you are not a Costco member. The other option is eBay. Many times people end up with more tickets than they use and will sell extras on eBay. Just make sure that you are buying from credible sellers!||||We have found the combination of this method does save you money on the trip. I highly recommend Logger's Run for groups of 8-10 people. I think most of them are 4-5 bedroom units and each have a hot tub on the deck and a 1 car garage on the...
Read moreLoggers Run is very cool in lots of ways. The best part is location. This place has ruined me. I can't imagine a more superior ski in-ski out. The place was well appointed and relatively clean, not perfect, but close. I liked the full kitchen. Bedding was comfortable and linens were clean. From what I understand they are individually owned so I don't know if this can speak for every unit. It was a nice garage for my small SUV but it would not accommodate a much larger vehicle. Was nice to have a clean warm car. ||The only drawbacks are small. The first is that the walls are thin. So if your neighbors are loud at a different time than you then you will join their party for sure. Well at least audio wise. Its not a big deal but if you are exhausted from skiing and you have early ski club and your neighbors arrive and then want to drink and make pizzas and play cards well... its gonna be loud. I should have brought ear plugs. My fault. Its their vacation also. They had to listen to us at 6am making breakfast, so it is what it is. ||Next is the hot tub. It was just ok. Our thermostat was weird and there is alot of ice on the deck and the slot where you are supposed to drop the cover. The cover was very saturated internally and extremely heavy so don't expect to manage it solo. This tiny issue comes from being spoiled in other vacation locations that have covered/maintained hot tub decks and hot tubs covers with lifts. So not a big deal. These small two items would not keep me from renting this unit again. I just will bring ear plugs and not have such high hopes from sneaking a solo hot tub moment. We enjoyed our time, the unit, and the slopes. We...
Read moreWe stayed at Logger's Run with a group of 8. We were very happy to get over 2 feet of snow during our trip. The home was spacious, clean, well maintained, and comfortable. The kitchen was surprisingly well stocked with pots, pans, and utensils. The hot tube was a great amenity and all 8 of us fit comfortably. Its location on the mountain was fantastic. There is a door out the back of the unit that took us right out to the slopes. The washer and dryer was great to have to prepare all of our gear for the next day. ||||Booking and check in was very easy.||||During our stay the mountain had to shut down do to the volume of snow. So much snow fell that people without accommodations we unable to leave and through no fault of the resort. At that same time we had a pipe burst which was not anyones fault. Jenny at the front desk was very helpful despite the mob of people looking for accommodations. We were very impressed with the job that they did under the circumstances.||||While they were not able to get a crew in to fix the pipe that night due to the blizzard, Lisa the manager and Jenny were very responsive the next day (our checkout day) to make sure we were happy. It was very clear that they were incredibly invested in customer satisfaction. We all left very happy and would highly recommend this well run accommodation.||||Once again a big thank you to Lisa and Jenny for all...
