Been here multiple years in a row. Bar BQ is very good and we love the wings and sandwiches. Kids menu is good food for the price. Overall this has been my favorite restaurant in the village and has the best food for your dollar in my opinion. I won't be back. We ate there over this last weekend and all was well for the meal. Good "Hunk o Hunk Barbq burger" for me, a great tasting plate of wings for my wife, and two good kids meals for my children. Waiter was great even though he was super busy. I left happy and my family did as well.
Then my wife wakes up at 3am Saturday morning and proceeds to throw up every 20 minutes for hours. He nausea started 90 minutes after we left, but she ignored it at first but gave in after running for the bathroom as she awoke in the middle of the night. She threw up a dozen times over that night and was forced to sit out skiing the next day on prepaid lift tickets. We check the leftover wings my wife ate that we took home with us....undercooked! I try to call the restaurant, just like everything else you call at Snowshoe (except reservations) and the line goes to voicemail all day and all night and the mailbox is ALWAYS full. You cannot get a person, much less mgr on the phone. I was not going to overreach on lift ticket losses, but felt the meal had major issues given the wings were undercooked and my wife was miserable for 24 hours out of a 5 day vacation. The meal should have been comped, but you cannot reach anybody.
I tried and tried to call someone and never could get anyone before we we left. We were not staying in the village. It's a shame because I like this restaurant the best....by far. I would give everything five stars, but if you cannot trust the cooking to keep you from becoming ill, basically poisoned, then you have to pass. Still fuming over those wings that made my wife sick, thank goodness we had the leftovers to verify what it was or else I might have thought stomach virus was the culprit even though no one else staying with our group showed any sign of illness whatsoever.
No matter how busy a restaurant is...Cook your food thoroughly...

I'll start out with "pros" since this list is quite short. Our server, Marissa, was outstanding and was seriously the best part of dining experience. She had us laughing throughout this nightmare and her personality was truly refreshing. As far as food goes, we loved the chili, but that was about it. It was hearty, meaty, and had great favor without being overly spicy.
Time for the "cons". We went on a Thursday evening at 7:00 and anticipated a wait, so we were fine with the hour wait and the host/manager was accurate with the wait time. Once we were seated and placed our order, we certainly didn't anticipate over an hour wait for our food. We were a party of 4 and this seemed to be a common complaint from the other tables as well.
While waiting for our food, we saw another server remove water glasses from a table and pour the water back into the pitcher. Luckily, Marissa removed the pitcher quickly and we confronted the server. He claimed it was clean and he didn't want to waste water.....really?!?!?!
The kitchen is severly under staffed. We were seated next to the open kitchen and there are questionable practices. Individually packaged steaks are opened and tenderized on a stationary cutting board. The cooks washed their hands after handling raw meat, but when they were plating dishes, they sat all of the plates on this cutting board. So basically every dish served had raw meat juices on the bottom.
We had a bbq sandwich, two burgers, and a steak. The bbq had good favor, but the sauces were all spicy and very watery. Suggestion is to add a thicker, sweet sauce. The burgers were overcooked and extremely dry. The $40 ribeye steak that was ordered medium well came out like a hunk of charcoal. Literally, it was black and crumbling on the outside. We cut into it and it was tough like dried out, burnt leather.
So, a two hour wait for inedible food left us extremely disappointed for our first dining experience in Snowshoe. I have no idea why this restaurant comes so highly ranked and recommended. I'm glad we found better options in the village for the remainder...
Read moreService is TERRIBLE! My husband and I tried to eat lunch there on Saturday, September 27. We were there for the Freefall Festival. The manager at the time was a woman who had dread-lock long hair pulled up into a bun. She was so UNPROFESSIONAL, it made me sick. The entire dining room was empty. We asked if we could get a table for two outside. She said, "No, because I don't want to break up that six-top that is available." Wow! I didn't realize it was so hard to pull one of those 3 two-tops away from the other two two-tops. Why was it not a priority to make the customer happy?! We then asked if we could sit inside by the far window where we could have a view of the mountains. She took us in and we asked if we could move just one table over. She again said, "No, because I don't want to break up my servers sections." So, let me get this straight. The entire inside dining area is EMPTY, and we weren't allowed to move over one table? How would that break up the servers' sections? I have been in the service industry for years. This is total B.S. and she knew it. She was just on a power trip. My husband and I got up, and walked out. Honey, TIPS stands for "To Insure Prompt Service." Also, in that situation, get off your power trip because you are not going to go far treating people like that. The evening before, we went in Foxfire Grille to get a drink. Several waiters walked by us as we were sitting in the bar area near the door. Not one waiter acknowledged us. We had to walk up to the crowded bar to get a drink. All the waiters acted as if they hated their job. If I were one of those waiters, I would be approaching as many customers as I could to make more money and I would be HAPPY to do it. Foxfire Grille: Hire people that are enthusiastic and are willing to try to accommodate the customers. People travel to Snowshoe for the experience and this experience threw a wrench in our pile. I would be more than happy to travel there and teach your servers how to properly serve. I just wish I got footage to show...
