Stemwinder #5 was a wonderful place to stay! We were sent a parking pass in advance that allowed us to enter the gate for the dedicated parking lot. We parked right in front of our unit and entered using a pin pad. That was great because there was no key to keep up with. We couldn't figure out how to lock it back but a quick text chat with the Mountaintop Condo team set us straight. Simply enter the unlock code again and turn the deadbolt knob We entered into a warmed mudroom with ski racks, cubbies for gear, and boot trays. Next you enter a great living area with a full couch, a loveseat, and 2 comfy chairs. Next to that is the kitchen and a den area with a fireplace. Another loveseat and a recliner are here, along with a large dining table. The amount of comfortable seating is great. There is also a half bath on this level. Downstairs is a king bedroom with a connected bath and a game room with another full sized couch. Cabinets filled with games and movies are here as well. There are TVs in each of these living areas. Upstairs are 3 bedrooms, one queen in one room, a single plus single bunks in another room. A hall bath serves these two rooms. There is also a large king bedroom with its own bathroom. Plenty of storage in each room. Lots of space to spread out. The only complaint I had was the pillows in the king bedroom were very stiff and uncomfortable. The bathrooms were stocked with extra toilet paper. The kitchen was stocked with an extra roll of paper towels and plenty of garbage bags and dishwasher detergent. We didn't realize it at first but to get to the ski slope one simply has to walk down to the left end of the building on the back lower deck. You are right next to Powder Monkey lift and can walk a few steps down to Heisler Way to put on skis and go. An alternative path is to exit out front and turn right just past the parking lot. A walking path takes you to the Powder Monkey offloading area. A few more steps and there are restaurants. This is also the area where you cross the street to the Western Territory. Super easy! Barely an inconvenience! We were blessed with a LOT of snow while we were there. Having said that, a crew did come and shovel snow on our path to the unit one day. Unfortunately (or fortunately)it snowed every day. One item that was missing and would have been appreciated is a snow shovel. The parking lot had a bin with a mixture of salt and gravel in it but we didn't come prepared with a bucket and trowel. Lesson learned for next time because our AWD vehicle had some difficulty leaving. Our other vehicle had no problem once we put it in low 4WD. Firewood is provided in a shed in the parking lot but we didn't try the fireplace. We had a great trip and would definitely recommend staying here. I hope to be able to rent it...
Read moreCAUTION!! Before booking with this owner, read the entire post. I booked a condo a week in advance at Mountain Lodge, Snow Shoe, WV. After driving 8 hours to the location, I was greeted by the front desk manager telling me the "owner had contacted her the day prior and CANCELLED my reservation." I immediately reached out to the phone number listed as the agent for me to contact to pick up key. I received a voice mail stating they were "out of the country until the first of the year and could not take text message or phone calls." Again, I asked the manager of the building what I was supposed to do. I had a reservation, receipt for payment and confirmation all showing I should have a room ready for me. Her initial response was she "was sorry and I could always just try and find another hotel." After several minutes of pleading, she finally agreed to email the listing agent. He eventually returned her call and said the Owner had decided last minute to let his daughter use the condo I had rented. The listing agent said he had another unit available for me to stay in that was much nicer than the original unit I booked. Unfortunately, nobody had updated the computer so my room was not even clean. I waited another 90 minutes for Monica to hunt down the cleaning crew to have my room cleaned. We eventually arrived in our room two hours after arrival. The room we were given was clean and sufficient but had several problems. My plan was to let my kids ski and I would have free time to catch up on office work. However, the wi-fi did not work... so no work was done. There was no A/C in the unit and it was extremely hot all day long. Even opening the window and doors would not keep the bedroom cool at night. Additionally, I paid for a room with washer and dryer, but the new room did not have them. We had to walk across the building every day to dry our stuff which was very inconvenient. The unit had a SMART TV which was pointless with no working wi-fi!! In all my years of using AirB&B, I have never been treated so unprofessional. I normally am not one to write reviews, especially this negatively. However, If I had listened to the front office manager upon arrival, I would have left and had to drive back home or try and find an available unit somewhere else. The OWNER did not even have the decency to contact me and notify me he was cancelling the rental agreement. He was simply worried about finding a place for his daughter to stay. VERY unprofessional. Before scheduling with this owner, I would at last make sure you have a back-up lodging option just in case he decides to give his family the unit last minute!
please make sure to read all of the reviews. The owner loves to respond with smart remarks making nothing appear to be their fault or...
Read moreCondo is nice. Has everything you need for a few days away. The views of the lake and mountains beyond the lake from the living area are great, especially because the condo is on the third/top floor. I was there in early July, and there were outdoor weddings on the lawn behind the condo right outside the window both days I was there. Happened to be in the condo and in the living room when one couple was exchanging their vows, which was cool to see. Right now all the balconies have been removed from the units at the building, and the views will be even greater when the unit gets its balcony back, which is supposed to happen by summer of 2022. A major issue I had, which has now been partially fixed, is that the listing said the unit had air conditioning, but it doesn't. The listing has been fixed, so that's good. I was disappointed in Robert's response to the issue, though. I sent him a message as soon as I checked in (9:45 p.m.) about the issue but didn't here back from him until late morning (11:00 p.m.) the next day. I realize I checked in kind of late, but it'd be nice if someone was available to make sure everything is okay when the guest checks in. I talked to the woman at the desk at the building, but she said I needed to contact Robert. I have a health condition that's impacted by sleep, and it was humid/hot the first night, and I was a mess the next day because of that. I would have changed rooms if I would have been able to communicate with Robert that first night, because I knew the lack of air conditioning was going to be an issue. His response to me the next day didn't acknowledge the discrepancy between the listing and the reality of the air conditioning or any inconvenience that might have caused, which was strange. He said "I'm sorry but there's no air conditioning" and then gave me advice on how to cool down the place by opening windows and doors, but that's it. Anyway, as I said, the listing is fixed now, so guest expectations will be fine from here on out. But, the communication wasn't...
