Amazing hotel, but next time we'll stay at the Cambria (next door).
We booked for my sons 9th birthday; 2 rooms, 4 occupants in each. The hotel is superb. The issues we had were with management being incredibly restrictive, not very hospitable, and reluctant to answer questions prior to arrival. Compared to other places we've stayed, this was the most inflexible we've ever experienced in a hotel. (We are a well traveled family. This was far from our first hotel stay)
Pros: Amazing facility; clean, comfortable rooms. The front staff personnel are helpful and welcoming. Breakfast each morning was great. It was one of the better grab-and-go breakfasts we've had. They have a large pool that's clean, a little on the warm side (which was perfect for our visit because it was a little chilly). Excellent location for walking.
Cons: I called ahead to see how early we could check in (we live minutes away). I asked about using the pool until our room was ready (my 9 year old just wanted to play in the pool with his best friend for his birthday; the whole reason for reserving the room). The manager said we couldn't use any of the amenities until after we checked into our room, but failed to provide us with an estimated check-in time. I even asked if I could pay an amount to check in early, how much I could pay, and what time we could check in. NO ANSWER WAS GIVEN. Previous hotels have always allowed us to enjoy whatever amenities they had and even held our bags until check-in. This was discouraging, but we couldn't cancel because it was a last-minute booking with zero cancelation. We had never encountered a hotel being so strict with their property. We ended up booking the room for 1 extra day just to allow the kids a full day of swimming.
We checked in as soon as our room was ready and waited till the next day for the pool because it was raining and too chilly for a swim upon check-in. The next day was cool but nice for a swim, especially because the pool was warm. After 3 hours, we were kicked out of the pool because it was sprinkling on/off. There was no lightning in the area, just light showers. We went for a walk, grabbed lunch, etc. On our walk, we noticed every other hotel in the area had people in their pools, and their fire pits were all lit. Not ours. Why point out the fire pit? Because we knew the evenings were going to be a little on the cooler side, and my kids LOVE to sit around a fire pit. Our hotel didn't light their fireplace the entire time we were there, but I guess we could live with that. Returning from our walk, there were people in the hotel pool. The same pool we were told to get out of. It was still sprinkling on/off. The kids were sad because they just didn't understand why we had to leave. (Neither did the adults). Our 4 kids were 100% supervised the entire stay; respectful of others at all times, and respected hotel and property at all times.
Needless to say, this is probably the most disappointing stay we've had and the least accommodating. We have actually paid a fee to other hotels in the area just to use their pool for a day. We had never had a problem. This was a first. Just one thing more to point out is that our entire party is a very healthy bunch. We noticed an excessive amount of air fresheners throughout the entire hotel. I'm not being picky, just pointing it out in case it's an issue for others' health reasons... we don't have a problem with allergies, but during and after our stay, we all had mild sinus irritations due to the potency of fresheners. All 8 of us cleared up 100% after being checked out for 24+ hours.
If you just need a place to stay within the hours of check-in/check-out and don't have high expectations for the use of amenities provided; this would be a great hotel. The front staff members were exceptional, and they really made it pleasant, despite the issues we seemed to keep running into...
Read moreI came here to leave a review because Alandra and Yosimar, truly went above and beyond for me. I was in town for business and stayed at Home2 Suites. The morning of my meeting, I went to my car and it was completely dead. So I had to put my vehicle issues on the back burner and uber to make it on time for my meeting. When I returned later, after I had already checked out, I asked Alandra if they could make any towing or shop recommendations for me because my car was dead. She was so kind, and empathetic. She asked me to give her a second and she contacted her maintenance team. Well, less than 5 mins later, Yosimar shows up with a portable jumper pack. Low and behold, my car started and it got me to the dealership. They could have easily been like, uh, yup, call AAA and just left me waiting there. It was the kindness, compassion and friendliness that truly stood out to me. People go unappreciated far too often and I'm very grateful they were at work that day to really ease my mind as I was figuring out how I was going to get back to Austin. The second you step inside this branch, you feel it’s the right place to stay in, smells wonderful, nice and CLEAN, staff members so welcoming, helpful, and friendly, every time I come here to RGV area, I stay here, easy to process my staying, no matter how I do my reservation, in person, online or over the phone, my room is clean as the rest of the rest of the entire property, walk-in shower with a very good brand of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion, there’s always hot water within seconds, large refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, big screen TVs. Beautiful view, nice outdoor swimming pool, you could do your own BBQ, close to the express way restaurants, and shopping centers.
