Two-night stay at Marriott east. Check in Friday evening, approximately 10:30 pm. Booked well in advance. We originally asked for two adjoining rooms, was advised this would not be a problem, we booked our reservation, assuming for the cost per night-it would warrant service and accommodations, to match the price. It could well be that quality of a hotel, if under more scrutiny. We arrived at the desk, Friday evening. We were given our adjoining room cards. When we tried our room entry, there was a lady that met me at the door. We both screamed, I'm glad opening the door woke her up before we completely entered the room. When our group of four went back to the front desk, they did not know how this happened, there were not any available adjoining rooms, we were not upgraded, our new rooms were across the hall from each other after, we insisted they be given a new location. We received a free complimentary breakfast for the next morning, due to our inconvenience, after protest of unavailable adjoining rooms. There was a shortage of food at breakfast. The tables and surrounding areas weren't well cleaned. I will say, the staff was pleasant, not above requirements. The snacks for sale at the front desk were extremely over priced. $10.00 for a pint of ice cream. $5.00 for a nutty buddy, etc. After a long day of walking and site seeing on Saturday, we went down to the pool to relax in the hot tub, approximately 8:30pm. The pool area was so loud with great echoes from unruly children, screaming very loudly, not regular playing and laughing voices. Literally, blood curdling, ear piercing screams, not just once or twice but constantly-with one of the adults in the pool encouraging it. The parents weren't attentive of about 5 kids, there were between 7-9 kids, equally the same amount of adults, give or take. There were 4 seperate families, none appeared to be traveling together. One couple and their 2 boys around 8 to 11 years of age, got in the hot tub with my husband and I, they were allowing their children to jump in and out of the hot tub/whirlpool with us in there. And, yelling from the hot tub over to their children while they were diving into the pool. The children should be in the pool. The elevated temperature and heat from the tub, is not appropriate for them. One family brought their own radio and it was so loud, we could not hear each other talking in the hot tub, to each other. I think the pool is fine for everyone, and could be all inclusive, during certain hours. Then an adults only time period, if only for 2 hours. The option of a curfew for children after 8pm, is sufficient time, so that adults that travel without children, also have the benefit of their stay at the hotel to relax. That would give all parties an option and an opportunity to have a fulfilling experience. We were in the pool area for an hour hoping it would quiet down, we left at 10:00pm while all the others mentioned remained. There never was a staff member that circulated, making rounds thru the area. There was not expected to be a life guard but, does staff ever check the pool area? It appeared to be a free for all. Possibly there should be a review for a seperate children's/family pool area. When we got off the 3rd floor elevator, we could hear the screaming on the second floor. This wasn't the best experience we've had and, I don't think I would look at this hotel as an option to re-book or recommend to others. I'm also quite sure that, my customer satisfaction is not regarded as a priority. I'm likely a small minority of very...
Read moreI am a frequent traveler and have stayed at this hotel four times. This is a hotel that struggles with traffic noise, hot water and consistent service.||One half of the hotel has extremely high traffic noise; the other half has moderate traffic noise. Make sure to ask for a room on the quiet side—they don’t automatically assign these to their most frequent or highest status guests. You will hear late night / middle of the night motorcycles and drag racing on both sides; you will hear it unmitigated through old windows on the noisy side.||If you take a shower between 6-7:30AM, you have a 50/50 chance on a hot shower, most often I got a luke-warm shower in the morning. Yesterday at 6:30 I got cold water that improved to a “cold pool” temperature by the end of the 3 minutes that was my personal limit at that temperature. ||Last night we also lost power for 3+ hours. No storms in the area. No communication about the issue. The loss of power also took out my A/C on a humid 80 degree Memphis night. I woke up soaking in sweat several times. When the power came back on at 2:30AM, my room lit up like a Christmas tree from the lights I had fumbled to turn on in the dark.||The hallway ceilings are 7 feet. What were once (I assume) popcorn ceilings have been properly scraped although there was a ceiling crack in my 5th floor room this week. An attempt has been made to update the rooms, but one week I had a caved-in King bed and in all rooms the sliding door for the bathroom / closet makes it such that either your bathroom door or your closet is always open. The TV and remote are old issue.||The neighborhood is a high traffic area and I assume the area is somewhat unsafe because there is always security with flashing lights in the parking lot. I appreciate safety. But you will pay an extra $12/night for the service if you park a car in this expansive, flat and typical suburban location parking lot with no gate.||The club lounge is a mostly standard option that doesn’t properly refill (or misjudges consumption of) snacks and water. In the evening, the snacks are picked over and I didn’t find a single entree dish worth trying any of the four weeks. Cookies are fresh down in the lobby. At breakfast, the bread drawers went two full weeks with only raisin bread and wheat bagels—i assumed they ran out of the English muffins, white and wheat bread that were also there the first two weeks I stayed.||The hotel gym is decent but like the club lounge inconsistent. The space is well ventilated and bright. They ran out of earbuds for their cardio equipment this week.||Service is generally friendly unless you share that you wish you didn’t have to keep asking for a room on the quiet side of the building—the check-in process for me this third week I asked was a little “testy”. ||There are good food options in the area.
