This will be a bizarre review. Easily the best sushi restaurant in the city. Fish is amazing, the chefs are top notch and the prices are fair. HERE is where things get odd. On Saturday May 16, 2015. My brother and I go here for dinner before a concert at Mud Island. I go ala carte on my order and spend about 50.00 on me alone. He decides to get a dinner special that’s got a Salmon roll and 10 pieces of nigiri and he orders a beer. We both ordered a salad which was extra. All told we are about to drop 75.00 on two folks easily. NOW begins the issue. ALL he asked for was to switch his Roll from a Salmon to a Tuna. The waitress said she would have to check to see if it was possible. Oh okay. She comes back 2 minutes later and just says “No”. We were like “What do you mean no?”. She said that they can’t switch the rolls. My brother stated that he did not mind paying more for the roll and asked to see the manager. A few more minutes go by, we get our salads and the female manager comes by and said “You asked to speak with a manager?”. Her tone seemed a tad odd to me. We told her of our issue and that we’d gladly pay extra to simply switch the roll. She says it CANT be done, not even for money. Its policy. What?? “This is insane” I proclaimed “I have been to dozens of sushi restaurants in Memphis alone that do this without any issue”. She stuck to her guns and said it’s not something they do BUT she could go check. I quickly told her to either come back with our checks for the salads and drinks or come back with the fact that a SINGLE freaking roll could be switched. She came back and said “We can do it THIS time but next time they can’t”. Folks I have never been so blown away astounded and vexed at a restaurant like this in my life. What arrogance. The customer is obviously NOT right at this place. Again, the food here is amazing. But they are clueless on how to handle customers. It’s not like we were insisting on a name change of the restaurant or insisting they give us ALL the sushi for three dollars. Nope, nothing insane. We were simply asking for a switch of a roll. This single roll prompted me to write this review. The management there needs to freaking get a clue as this is not how you abuse paying customers. Maybe they know they have great chefs and fish and simply don’t bow to customers requests. This much is clear. The food makes me want to visit this place every week…the attitude makes me NEVER EVER want to return again. I am so perplexed. I think I will take my money elsewhere from now on. I am still flabbergasted at the fact this ‘altercation’ even happened. For a bit we thought we were on some reality TV show about rude service. Nope…they come by it honestly here. All they had to do was switch rolls, up charge is a dollar or two and we would have been happy customers. Nope, apparently COMPANY POLICY is King here. That’s the last of my money they...
Read moreMy husband and I just ate at Red Koi and it was the best dining experience we have had in a very long time. Not only do they greet you promptly and make you feel welcome, but all the staff are equally friendly. Three different waitresses came to check on us in intervals. It was frequent enough to make you feel satisfied with your waiter/waitress, but it was not so much that it became annoying. We were given complimentary egg rolls which were delicious. And the lady who manages the restaurant worked just as hard as her employees. We had hardly sat at our seat for a couple minutes before she came to personally take our order and get us whatever we needed.
The food was prepared and brought to us within ten minutes of ordering, and they were quick to ask for refills on our drinks. The food was great and is easily on par with restaurants like Osaka. I have no complaints about this place except the price and that is just because we are poor lol. But we will definitely be going back. There really need to be more restaurants...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I decided to come here after a terrible experience at another sushi restaurant and plus this one is one of his favorites. The staff was friendly and attentive. We did not have to wait long to be seated. The waitress approached us immediately and put in our drink and appetizer order. We did not have to wait long for the food. We ordered the Gyoza (fried dumplings), Meat Spring Rolls, and the Yum Yum Shrimp. They were hot and fresh! The sweet tea was amazing. I ordered the Crunchy Crab Roll and the Chik Fil A was delicious. No complaints here. My boyfriend had the Big Apple Roll (very popular I have noticed) and the Spicy Tuna Roll. Throughout the meal, the waitress was very attentive. Drinks stayed full and the service was great. We would have taken pictures but we were soo hungry 😂 give this place a chance they...
