Y'all are lucky the bread is good 𼚠I do admit the manager and employees were really nice and calm. However ,I ordered two cakes in advance through phone call, rectifying various times that I wanted two cakes, each a different kind, but both the same size; which brings me to mention a small peeve that the sizing on the cakes can be very confusing and only certain flavors/types of cake are available in certain sizes. If I hadn't taken the time to find the online PDF of the cake sizes, I would've been very lost along with the lady that took my order through call, as she wasn't able to tell me what a size 2 or size 3 cake meant in inches/servings . After much confusion, order was placed, and on my end , I made the mistake of not asking what the total amount for both cakes was going to be , and the lady didn't tell me herself but it was no biggie. The day before pickup, they did give me a quick call to confirm my pick up time, which I confirmed and once again said "yes I'm picking up two cakes " and they said great, thank you for confirming . Now we get to the pick up day and they call to tell me my cake is ready. I ask the amount I have to pay at pickup and it's 47 dollars. Now, this is where the problems start because I logically knew both cakes wouldn't be so cheap , so I ask the person on the phone if that's the total amount for both cakes or for each cake...which then they proceed to tell me they only wrote me down for one cake, and had to get the manager on the phone with me to see what they can do. Manager was very nice , but unfortunately the way the store operates, they were unable to get the specific cake I wanted out to me the same day even if I was willing to wait a couple more hours for it. These cakes weren't for me, but I am lucky that my friend isn't very picky so I just had to settle for one of the extra cakes they had available already, but nowhere near what would've been ideal. To the manager's credit, they did offer to make one of another flavor( but not the one I originally wanted) they could do same day, but at that point I just wanted to get the situation over with and didn't want to gamble with other flavors if they would taste good to my friend's guests. But no other compensation was offered for the troubles and I still had to pay full price, which I had no trouble paying for the one cake that was actually correctly fulfilled, but it didn't feel so good paying full price for the cake I had to settle for last minute at no fault of mine. Overall, I'll stick to the daily bread or available cake slices when I visit the store in person as the items themselves are really good. However, I don't think I'll ever call to order a cake for an event again. This time it really wasn't a big issue thanks to my friend not being picky, but if it had been for a bigger and more specific event , this situation would've definitely put me in a bind and I don't want to risk this happening again. Maybe it will be better/less confusing for the staff if you order a cake in person, but I would suggest to try and not order through phone call to avoid a situation like this one or wait until they are available to be ordered online on...
Read moreGood food, but not a place to go for the experience.
Food: It's a good fusion of different cultures. mixing influences from the US, Europe, Asia, and Latin America (flavored soft buns, jalapeno and cheese pastries, pretzels, blueberry filled pastries). You can find French staples like croissants and baguettes. 3 stars.
Service: Extra slow. Expect to wait in line for 30 minutes or longer. When I visited, a person was try to guide the line around the tables, however, I don't think they were prepared for the amount of people that was standing in line. As a result of the long line, people were able to easily skip in front of others, and most customers already in line were kind of shy to say anything. If you were at the back of the line that morning, well, that was a problem. Once you get to the counter, the employees were nice and did everything possible to get your order right and quickly. The star goes to them: 1 star.
Atmosphere: Unfortunately, to me it was over crowded. When I visited, the line of people waiting to pay for the pastries was about 30 people long. As a result, the line snaked around the sitting area, and that would inevitably disrupt your dining experience, specially if you expect to be able to grab a table, sit down, and enjoy your pastry or drink. On the positive side, the establishment is very clean, and everything is clearly labeled in terms of price, what's in the pastry, and how much each costs. 1 star.
My takeaway: Arrive early, maybe plan your visit on a weekday. It is expensive once you add food, drink, tip, and consider wait time and sitting availability. To me, takeout would be the way to go, so you can enjoy the food experience at the place of your choice (e.g., home, park, office, etc.)
Alternatives to French pastries or fusion-baked goods include Hive Bagel and Pastries downtown, Sweet Musings in Cordova, and Sweet Eye...
Read moreThis is a South KoreanâFrench bakery chain with locations across the U.S., and I was thrilled to see theyâve recently opened one in Memphis. As a longtime fan of similar places like paris Baguette, I had been eagerly waiting to try itâand it didnât disappoint!
On my first visit, which was around 1 PM on a weekend, many items were already sold out. Though the selection was limited, I picked up a pre-made sandwich, a loaf of bread, a couple of pastries, and their signature chocolate ganache cloud cake. Everything was fresh and made with high-quality ingredients. The cloud cake, in particular, was outstandingâsoft, moist, not overly sweet, and made with real chocolate.
I returned later, a bit earlier, and had better luck with availability. I ordered a mocha coffee but was mistakenly handed a matcha drink instead. Not wanting to make a fuss, I accepted it, though Iâm not a fan of matcha. Small service slip, but understandable given the weekend rush.
The place can get quite crowded, especially on weekends, so arriving early is key. Their setup is self-serve: grab a tray and tongs, choose your items from the display, then head to the counter to check out. You can dine in or take your items to go.
Overall, Iâm excited to explore more from the menuâespecially their breads, preserves, and sandwiches. Despite the crowd and a small service hiccup, itâs a welcome addition to the Memphis food scene. Highly...
