BED BUGS and confrontational management. AWFUL experience. My husband is a Platinum Elite Marriott member. We were "upgraded" to a junior suite room with bed bugs, and we were treated terribly by the hotel management. Our 9- and 11-year-olds had 77 and 65 visible bug bed bites respectively after staying here. (See photos.) DO NOT stay in room 251. I understand that bed bugs can happen anywhere, however our experience was not handled well. 1. Management KNEW there was a bug problem in the room: Manager Joey mentioned that they "know exactly who brought the bugs in because there have been problems ever since." 2. Pesticide on luggage: Management did not notify us when they did find bugs in the room, and sprayed down our luggage (that was checked at the front desk) with pesticide without telling us. 3. Hostile management: We were treated with accusations and confrontation regarding the pesticide, the replacement of our luggage, and purchasing a new set of clothes which had been approved by management. 4. More lies from management: We were told we could purchase bags by manager Stacey who directed us to a nearby JC Penney where we purchased clearance luggage. (It isn't like we bought Louis Vuitton bags.) Then after confirming they could throw the old luggage away, manager Joey told us hours later that there wasn't enough money on hand to pay for the replacement luggage. Two months later we were STILL battling with manager Stacey who denied ever authorizing the luggage and ultimately refused to pay. 5. Destroyed property: The washer and dryer we were told to use in the hotel to heat treat our clothes to kill the bugs destroyed some of our clothes due to a broken lint trap. 6. Refusal to reimburse stay as promised: We were told that the stay would be comped due to this nightmare, but it took over 2 months and 5-7 hostile phone calls with Marriott corporate and Stacey before she would reimburse us, and then only returned the nights we were put into the bug room plus one instead of the entire stay as promised. This event ruined our trip for us, and to be treated with such condescension and hostility by Joey and Stacey was especially upsetting. DO NOT stay here.

This is easily turning into one of our favorite places to stay when we visit Tempe/Mesa Phoenix metropolitan area. Nancy was very pleasant to speak with when confirming our reservations as well as accommodating our room selection and preferences since we booked 2 rooms as our usual stay. Rooms are very nice, bathrooms are well laid out with plenty of room. Views from both rooms are nice since the pool side has 3 large pools with a massive screen to watch as they play movies as well as sports events. On the outside view to the east end, has a wonderful view of the lake and well maintained park. Lobby area as well as localized restaurant add a nice touch to the property. Conference rooms are massive with plenty of parking on the north side. We will definitely be returning. Update: 8/31 we returned. Happy trip again. I literally have 1 complaint. Internet speed is absolutely horrible. Now, if you are on the 1st floor and near conference rooms, no issues, 3rd or 4th floor, yea, not good. Weird, because every other Marriott we have stayed at, just log into guest, room & name...tada...fairly reasonable internet connectivity. Not here. Oh, and no smart tv...wife and I got rid of ad insane cable TV 10 years ago, regular TV is wild. We just stuck to our mobile Hotspot 📱 n connect our laptops n tablets that way.

We stayed 5 days in mid-April visiting family and so disappointed in our room that affected our entire stay. We paid over $325/night for a one bedroom suite that included a kitchenette and living room with pull-out couch for the kids. Location was great and near family but beware it’s right next door to the Cubs baseball stadium so parking is impossible if Spring Training is happening. Luckily we checked in the last game of the season so only had to deal with the crowds and total lack of parking for one day. Room clearly had not been dusted for some time and it felt like it was only quickly wiped down from the previous guest. The kitchen was completely bare, no paper towels, no cups, dishes, utensils, no dish soap or towels. We even had to request a trash can be brought up. I regretted paying the upgrade for a suite with no idea it was not usable other than a tiny mini fridge. The tiny single brew coffee pot came with presized bags of Starbucks coffee that were obviously too large for the machine. I decided to brew a cup anyway and carefully arranged the sealed filter coffee bag in the holder. Hot coffee was spewing out everywhere made a mess. When I told the front desk and asked if they had the appropriate coffee bags the lady said ‘oh, yeah I know it doesn’t really fit. We have the same machine in the back for employees.’ She clearly knew it was not a good product but the hotel had no other coffee machine options for guests. The coffee bar in the lobby was closed and were told it never resume after shut down from Covid. The bathtub handle fell completely off and we struggled to even turn the hot water off worried the tub might overflow! You have to use a key card inside the front door wall and keep it inserted to activate the lights. It’s on a timer and goes off at 30 min. Some lights are on this timer and some aren't. What we discovered after much frustration was that my husbands night stand table, clock, charging plugs in the bedroom are all tied to that timer. So it continually would go off and he would have no power. Whoever designed the electrical plan clearly was not thinking it through for usability. There was no shampoo provided or bar of soap for the shower although they stocked us with mouthwash and hand lotion. We were given 1 extra roll of toilet paper (with 2 bathrooms) which wouldn’t have been a big deal had Housekeeping checked in each day. What I didn’t know and wasn’t told at check-in is that you have to request service otherwise you’re out of luck. Pullout couch did not come with sheets, pillows or blanket. We had to request them be brought up along with trash cans for the bathrooms. Pools were open but in poor condition and dirty. They did not look like they’d been cleaned very often. The super small jacuzzi was falling apart and all the smooth plaster was chipping off in large chunks. Beware of your swimsuit it will snag on the rough concrete patches. They only had one umbrella out in the entire pool area. It’s AZ for crying out loud… please provide some shade for your guests!

Enough said… we won’t be going back and not worth what we paid. I suggest you find...

We had reservations for a room with 2 queen beds and a queen sofa bed for 4 people. Upon check-in, they stated that they changed our reservation to 2 rooms and would adjust the cost to be the same as the original reservation. They proceeded to authorize double the amount on my credit card.

The pool area was dirty. Beer cans and cigarette butts everywhere the next morning. We mentioned it to the front desk who said "People aren't supposed to do that!". Not the point, they should have cleaned it.

You could see how tall the cleaning person was by the swipes on the elevator walls.

In the rooms everything was dusty. The cleaning people never moved anything to see all the dust. The beds were not made properly until our 3rd day.

In the middle of our stay we were out to breakfast one morning. I received a call from the hotel asking if we had checked out as the cleaning people reported that there was nothing in our rooms. I replied that our belongings had better be in our rooms. We returned to the hotel and the cleaning people had reported to the front desk that they had looked in one of our rooms, didn't think they could see anything, and assumed we had left.

This hotel is VERY short staffed. There are not enough employees to give the guests the attention they deserve for the prices they are charged!!!

We witnessed an employee getting disciplined in front of guests. Not acceptable!! We witnessed another employee being disciplined, in public, as the front desk. Again, unacceptable.

We had no hot water for 2 straight days.

We came in for spring training. The City of Mesa blocks off the streets around the hotel making it difficult for hotel guests to get in and out of their own hotel. Not the hotel's fault, but something other guests might like to be aware of.

The outside bar by the pool was only open two of the nine days we were there.

Their website talks about the spa, which my wife was going to use as she does not do baseball. She was looking forward to a massage and getting her nails done. The spa does not exist.

The only bright spot; the food is very good.

I relayed all this to the person who was in charge at the front desk. I'm not sure if the information will be passed on as this employee stated they were leaving employment as well.

There was no offer of compensation or any reduction for the lack of water for two days.

Would I recommend this hotel? Not currently.

Management leaves a lot to be desired and needs to improved their overall management of the property. Lost business will result if changes are not...
