We went up to the condo. The room was cold so we turned up the temp on the thermostat so that the air conditioning would cut off. I first turned on the LR TV. It worked. I picked up a phone, it was dead. I turned on the BR TV, it was dead. We had to move the furniture out to plug in the TV to get it working. Later that day, I noticed that it was still cold in the room and the air was still running so I adjusted the temp on the thermostat up again so that the air would cut off. The lights stopped working in the bathroom. I called the desk to ask them what to do. The boy who answered the phone at the desk got mad at me. There was no apology or even empathy. He told me that he would report it to Maintenance and he had no idea when they would come to look at it. Luckily, I carry a flashlight with me when I travel in case of emergency and I had to use it to use the bathroom facilities. After 24 hours, someone from Maint called to come look at the outage. I told him that I was out of the room and I asked him if he could come by in the late afternoon when I would be back in the room. He told me “No.” So when I got back to the hotel, I called the desk again and the boy at the desk got mad at me again. He told me that it was my fault because I wasn’t in the room when Maint called. Later that day, I noticed that the temp had not changed in the condo. It was still cold. At that point, I increased the temp on the thermostat again to the mid 80s. The air still did not turn off so I just turned the unit completely off. I called the desk and, unfortunately, got the same boy. This time, he immediately started berating me saying, “I HAVE ALREADY SCHEDULED A SERVICE CALL FOR YOU!” before he even listened to the reason I was calling. I told him that our air wouldn’t cut off and I asked him how to operate the thermostat in case I just wasn’t doing it right. He actually said, “That’s not my department.” Later, a “maintenance man” finally showed up. I told him that the lights in the bathroom didn’t work. He immediately walked over to an electrical outlet on a wall and pressed the breaker in it cutting the lights back on. The fact that he immediately knew the problem tells me 1) This happens regularly, 2) Nothing has been done to replace these faulty breakers, & 3) Management is out of touch with what’s going on in this facility. But then things got really bad. I told the “maint man” that the air wouldn’t turn off no matter how high I turned the temp on the thermostat. He then goes over to the thermostat and turns up the temp seeing that the air doesn’t turn off. Instead of understanding how a thermostat is supposed to work, the “maint man” turned on the heat. That’s right. Instead of understanding that this thermostat is malfunctioning and needs to be changed, the “maintenance man” tells me that I need to run the heat. Mind you, this is summertime in Myrtle and a “maint man” is telling me that I need to run the heat in my condo. I tried to discuss with him that the thermostat was malfunctioning but then he started yelling at me. Each time I tried to speak, he yelled, “SIR!, SIR!, SIR!, SIR!” over me so that I couldn’t speak. This thug yelled loudly at me, was very intimidating, and scared my family. For security reasons, I had to tell him to leave our condo. I couldn’t believe it. Here I am, a business traveler who is standing in a condo I’m paying over $200 a night for, and I’m being verbally assaulted by a “maint man.” It’s no secret that a lot of hoodlums have moved into Myrtle over the past decade. But Bay View shouldn’t be hiring them. We met several nice employees on the elevator and in the halls, but the Desk Phone Boy and the Maintenance Thug need to go. Towels and wash cloths reeked of cigarettes. I'll never...
Read moreTo say the least, I’m very displeased (and disgusted) with my stay at Bay View Resort. I travelled with a group of family that was about 10+ people total (children and adults) and there were 4 rooms that were booked separately for our stay. Upon arriving to check in, I was told that my room was overbooked and I wouldn’t be able to stay in the one I reserved online. The manager said that the room he has available is the exact same, just with different furniture. I asked if I could look at the room before I decided to book it and he said that was okay. Upon entering the room, I was immediately disappointed. Yes, the floor plan was the about the same as the room I booked online, but with a completely different feel and aesthetic. The room I reserved (that they overbooked) seemed to be renovated and much more modern whereas this one was dark and outdated with orange and red furniture and curtains, and really old TVs. I went back to the front desk to let the manager know I wasn’t satisfied, but he insisted over and over again that there were no other rooms available that we could get instead. Since the room I reserved was more expensive, the manager then offered me a “discounted rate” of $164, $164, and $114 for 3 nights for my inconvenience. While still at the front desk, I happened to go on their website to check the rates for the room I was settling with only to see the EXACT same discounted rates... absolutely unacceptable. I immediately mentioned this to the manager and his excuse was that the discounted rates he initially offered were still based on the room that I booked and that he could offer $114 a night instead. I should have went to another resort, but since I was traveling with a large group of family, I didn’t want to be separated. Not only was my room overbooked, but my sister’s room was overbooked as well. Unfortunately, this ended up just being the surface to all the issues we experienced over the weekend. The resort was congested with too many people and to make matters worse, only two small elevators were working. Just to put things in perspective, I could hardly fit my double stroller in one of them and these were the only elevators that worked. As you can imagine, lines to the elevator were extremely long. On Sunday morning around check out time, it took us 20+ minutes to catch an elevator to the ground level and the only reason we caught it that soon was because we realized we needed to ride it up and then ride it back down. And believe it or not, it gets worse! We found roaches (yes… roaches) in our room on two separate occasions. Once we found a roach crawling over our bath towels and the next instance we saw it crawling up the wall… disgusting. I’ll include a picture. Also, the refrigerator and AC hardly worked in our room. We would wake up in the middle of the night hot because heat was blowing from the vents and not air even though the thermostat would be on cool and 70. My sister’s oven wasn’t working on her stove and her AC didn’t work AT ALL. The manager told her she would submit a maintenance request and they would come by (the next morning!!) to check on it. To make matters worse, the manager on shift didn’t submit the maintenance request like she was supposed to and they had to wait an additional day just to have air when temperatures were nearly 80 degrees outside. So, unless you want to deal with overbooking, faulty appliances and amenities, rodents and critters… do yourself a favor and book...
Read moreWe have stayed at the bay view multiple times and a sister property, I believe. This is our yearly trip, pretty much. After this experience we will not come back. Check-in is 4 pm, so we thought ok lets go a little later also because we have small kids on the way. Sometimes, we have to stop frequently. We booked directly on the website, thinking we were going to get a higher floor. But we ended up on level 2, and all the extra we paid for didn't matter. So make sure you come early, i think? Overall why we chose the hotel because our last few visits in the last 4 years we always try to stay here. It's mostly only for the view and beach access easy with kiddos. Rooms are old, but that's fine. This time, because of the influx of ppl, it looks like the pool was overwhelmed by rowdy individuals. Signage is posted, do not use lazy river inner tubes in other areas of the pool. I had to take my 9 month and other kids out of the 1ft baby/toddler pool because they were putting it in there. No one returned the lazy river floats after every use, there were kids throwing the nerf style football in the lazy river that's dangerous especially when you have younger kids trying to play safely, Parents do not watch their children anymore. Maybe lifeguard or at least more hotel manager visits to help with the rowdyness. There are signs that say swim at your own risk as well. We were literally here last year around the same week of April and during the week thinking it was going to be less crowded, but no. It was so peaceful last year. We also were at a different property in February if this year and a way better experience than this. The hotel rooms also paper thin. Staff is there needs to be someone at pool to control the parents and kids. The behavior we witnessed horrible. The inside spa/hotub needed cleaning. I have never seen this many ppl and how filthy it was. The water was Grey, not clear and clean as it usually was. It hadn't been cleaned all day. The pool remains open until 11pm, and I feel there needs to times the pool needs to be shut down so no one can use it. To deep clean This was, unfortunately, the worst stay I had not relaxing at all. Key takeaways: We paid online booked direct 25% off, and I believe the free mini golf for kids... We paid extra money to ensure oceanfront front, not to be confused with ocean views. We technically didn't get that. Housekeeping are always sweet kind ppl, but I feel you need to hire more ppl because I think they are overworked and they didn't get a chance to clean the room. I was able to finally get clean towels. We loved this property for the kid friendly environment, but this time, way too kid friendly. I have never seen how dangerous they were playing. Parents just sitting there. Also, where did the pool seating go?? There needs to be a fine or warning or something about towels not being put back either. The pool area is just pure filth. Broken glass from guests, broken table tops, unruly groups of unsupervised children. After this trip, we will be considering a few...
