FIFTH AND OCEAN — Hotel in Myrtle Beach

The positives: The room was clean and spacious. We had plenty of room to hang up clothing and store our bags. They had a nifty cubby holder wall inlay in the bathroom. Everything was bright, nicely decorated and overall very cute looking. The mirror in the bathroom was lighted LED and very useful for putting on makeup. The rooms did not have a weird odor (like most hotels) Beds were comfortable, plenty of pillows. The front office ladies were nice/helpful.

The negatives: The signal on the TV was terrible. The WiFi buffered the entire stay. It would play for a few minutes, stop, load to 24% and time out. Exit out the streaming platform and the signal would do the very same again... If you left it essentially spinning, it would eventually (minutes later) play the show you were trying to watch. Again, being at the beach, 90% of our time was spent out but the last hour or so of the day that we wanted to watch a show or the news, we couldn't. We did mention this to the front office and was told they were aware of the problem. **My suggestion to the hotel is installing Mesh devices, WiFi Extenders or WiFi boosters. The water pressure was ridiculous. We go camping quite often, whether via tent or RV, so we know how to "rough it" and expect what you should from certain surroundings, but the water pressure was so low that water would not fully come out the whole shower head. Rather, water would spray from the bottom half of the shower head. If that tells you anything, and it should, just know you will spend more time in the shower trying to rinse off. IE- I have long curly hair and it took me longer than usual to rinse out sand from the beach. The fixture was very cute and all, but definitely not functionally usable. I mention this because when speaking with the front desk, we were informed the hotel(or owner) was also aware. That is unfortunate it has not been fixed yet; at the very least block off that room until it has been repaired. The towel hanger in the bathroom was broken/anchors were pulled away from the wall. There are no elevators. I mentioned at the beginning we stayed in room 401 - this is the top floor. Not terrible to walk up and down, we handled it, but something to be aware of if one has a mobility issue.

Overall, price was pretty decent. Just the WiFi and water pressure in that room almost ruined the stay. If that was fixed, I would give 4 stars. The pool was pretty small, but c'est la vie. Not really a negative, just something to be aware of if expecting otherwise. Check Out at 10:00am **You can pay $45+Tax for an extra 3...

Positives: The main lady at the front desk was amazing! Met another staff member on the last day, and she was super as well. The rooms are basic and we knew that when placing our reservation. Had all we needed though, except iron and ironing board. No biggie. The refrigerator was working good and tv was functioning as well. Air in room worked perfectly.

Negative: When we first arrived, noticed a white powdery substance on top of Headboard. I was with my two daughters and thought, oh boy. Well, not drugs, plaster coming off the ceiling. I alerted front desk.

Looks like it may have just been done or worked on, simply wiped it up and moved on. Then the next night, almost asleep and the drywall tape, along with plaster and compound came ripping off the ceiling and onto me. Not a great feeling when you're trying to get some sleep before a long trip home. This also went over my golf shorts and numerous shirts.

2nd- Took a $100 deposit from me when arrived for damage. Agreed because understandable and most hotels or resorts do this and sometimes more. I was told it would be released after we check out. Drove back to PA and it was pending on my card. I went to pick up some prescriptions the next day and that card, which was our vacation card was overdrawn. I looked and the $100 that was on there, was taken back. I've called numerous times and the lady at the front desk was amazing, as always. Told me a manger would reach out, this went on for days. She called once, sent me email about how the card was voided to show bank. I did this and bank said they still have my money and I better make a deposit, because of overdraft charges. I then called back and asked , who owns hotel because I don't want to talk with the manager. Still waiting...Definitely was going back because of location, price and staff at front desk. Now, forget it...

Update: Did a three way call with hotel and bank. Hotel DID void and release money. The other two from bank over the weekend, couldn't find this information. Person today, found it and I was very thankful for the help from the hotel staff today...

On 4/21/24 I booked the room for that day till 4/25/2024 less then 8 hrs of booking ….per manager “ Simone” states she will call me back and never did , she also said I couldn’t get a refund and she didn’t care about my situation and tried to explain I booked less then 12hrs ! If I can give a review for 0 I would , I drove 14hrs with my child , the front desk lady told me to go to the sister hotel for the key since they close at 11pm and I wasn’t arriving till shortly after , so I did, i was asked for $100 deposit for check in, then I proceeded to the hotel I reserved and when I got there I noticed the blinds were open , the bed was a mess and it was dirty . I got scared, didn’t even go in the room and drove back to the sister hotel to explain the situation , I did ask if maybe they could put me in the hotel ( sister hotel ) so I feel safe but the lady declined , I also requested a refund due to what I encountered at the 5th and ocean hotel , which was declined … I’ve been going back and forth with the manager or staff and all they can say is you can’t get a refund … I can’t get refund because the room was filthy and the bed looked like someone just got out of it ??!! So I was left without a room booked anywhere at this point , my entire vacation was sabotaged or is at this point , I’m out of the $366 they took from me and I haven’t stepped a foot in that hotel room ! Horrible place and I will NEVER recommend that place to anyone not even my worse enemy … The staff I encountered the night I arrived had no sympathy to where I was going to end up at after my options at their place were declined . PLEASE TAKE MY ADVISE , do not stay there !
