My best friend and I visit fairly often to catch up, and I travel from Florence, SC just because of how fun the selection of games are. The staff are friendly and it is kept nice and clean, but the last two times we've been have been awful. We're not sure if the last two visits were "off nights" or not, compared to how great our other experiences have been, but we got tired and decided to leave after 2 hours of playing that was mostly wasted. Over $50+ that we spent, with most games being between $0.25 - $1.00, we feel the games really are fairly priced. The entire first hour, every game we played gypped us though. Not even exaggerating. Several games either gave us the incorrect amount of tickets that the game said we should have won, didn't give tickets at all, or flat out took our money. The first hour was spent stopping two different staff members to help after every single game we played. Skeeball didn't award tickets, Wheel of Fortune told us we lost when it landed on 150 tickets, the game where you stop the light as it runs in a circle was not handing out the amount that the light landed on, and after a while we just stopped asking for help. When we did stop the staff members, they gladly helped us and awarded us the tickets we were owed, but the last hour we just stopped bugging them because it was such a hassle. The prizes are decent, you can never go wrong with Chinese yo-yos or the little parachute guys, but it would be nice to have cooler selections for older "kids-at-heart" adults. Though, it's still definitely better than any other arcade in the area. We'll probably take a break from it during our next trip, but really hope the machines are functioning better when we go back and perhaps we'll see some updated prizes too! Regardless, we still had fun and are thankful for the opportunity to have such a place to visit, we just wish we didn't feel as though our past few trips...
Read moreMy family and I have vacationed to myrtle beach yearly since I was a child. We discovered fun plaza around 6-7 years ago, and it became an annual addition to our plans. My family always competed with the baseball machines to see who could be the first to win a prize, and we had always left with shirts and plushies. The prize selection has always been fantastic with such a large variety of toys, candies, decorations, electronics, and collectable weapons. The ticket prices were fairly high, but I earned tickets at such a large rate that the prizes never seemed unreachable. Recently however, many of the machines which would reward larger quantities of tickets while still being fair were removed. (Recently being the past 1-2 years). The amount of tickets I received per visit significantly decreased, and suddenly getting 1600 tickets was a vast challenge, not my average per $20. Additionally many of the mechanical machines were removed and replaced with purely digital machines. While I understand the mechanical machines require significantly more upkeep than their digital counterparts (I used to work as an employee at an arcade), the digital games seem more luck based than skill based, making the whole experience feel more like gambling than playing games of skill. Additionally, the fun plaza T-Shirts were removed as prizes for the baseball machines, removing much of the motivation to play them from my family. While fun plaza will always remain as my most memorable arcade experience of my childhood, the location has lost the thrill...
Read moreUpdate 2022: Took another Myrtle Beach trip, but this time with kids. It's pretty much the same as last time. We discovered its not really that great of a place for younger kids. Our oldest is 5 and the majority of the games he couldn't enjoy to the fullest or play. Skii ball, racing games and the classic baseball game was his go to. It also feels more expensive with kids :) .
We visited during our Myrtle Beach trip 2019. It is right on the boardwalk and easy to get to. Definitely one of the better arcades. It has a lot of the classic games like skii ball and many modern arcade games as well. Best of both worlds. The prices for the games are reasonable also. You get a game card that you can store your tickets and cash on, all you have to do is swipe your card on the games. Once you are done playing games, you take the card to the prize booth to exchange your tickets. Going...
